>but the lawyers don't do anythingCourt episodes aren't about lawyers, they're about characters. This is an episode about Kirk -- his competency as a commander and the professional distance that conceals his true feelings for his crew. Also, the subplot is about how technology should never be seen as infallible in its testimony as it can be subverted.>but there was no ion pod mentioned before or afterIt's technobabble that has little to no bearing on the actual content of the story. Also, Measure of a Man is filled to the brim with plot holes. There is no way in hell a competent organization like Starfleet wouldn't have settled the question of Data's status as an individual when he applied to the academy. What, you're going to let a toaster get into what is portrayed as super super West Point/Oxford without even considering if it's sentient and has the rights of an individual? The entire episode falls apart because of this. The idea of some backwater JAG bitch making the law on a topic like this is genuinely absurd.Keep in mind Data has been in Starfleet for OVER 20 YEARS at this point, with an officer's commission -- having rank and power over the lives of other people. And what, they never fucking considered it, ever? Anyway, Court Martial is better than Measure of a Man.

>>218165780>A visiting instructor arrives at the Academy and uses an unorthodox method to help our cadets process the emotions of recent trauma.Every fucking show over the past 10 years has felt like a millennial white woman coming into my living room to whine about her problems. Where's the escapism? The wish fulfillment? No wonder the top streaming shows are all old sitcoms.

>>218166115No, not considering what's going on with Paramount. They're going to milk the IP by making low effort slop for the foreseeable future. They are desperate for younger viewers as the only successful franchises they've come up with recently are Yellowstone and Landman. So we get teen soap opera trek and probably that Risa sitcom.

Do they have fun episodes like Stargate's time loop?JJ Abrams Trek is the veneer of Trek draped over a big dumb action movie. It's good for what it is, but it's not Trek. Shows before Discovery have some pretty good sets, but it's always very apparent that it's a set or just random arid shrubland outside of Los Angeles (or somewhere that looks like it), Vasquez Rocks being a famous example. There were multiple timeloop episode in multiple Star Trek shows. These shows are kind of responsible for popularizing a lot of very common scifi tropes.

>>218169401There’s no inconsistency though, they redesigned the Klingons because they had a better budget. Back in the day, audiences were treated with some level of respect and were expected to understand that not everything on screen is 100% canonical. It’s like asking “why were Kirk and the crew cartoon characters?” They weren’t, we are seeing representations of canonical events, visuals are fluid and can be updated.

>Fixes Star Trek
>>218169676>Respect is explaining why the Klingons didn't look like they did in TOS and the films.Because the movies had a bigger budget and allowed them to give them more unique designs, that’s all the explanation needed. They always looked that way canonically (before DS9 and Enterprise canonized the visual difference) needing an explanation for every visual inconsistency just comes off as a lack of imagination. Why does the TOS Enterprise look so outdated? Because it was made in the 60s, the interior from SNW is what the Enterprise actually looked like along.
>it's a Data toes nanners episode >it's a Worf resigns episode>it's a Barclay misconduct episode
>>218169752>Why does the TOS Enterprise look so outdated? Because it was made in the 60s, the interior from SNW is what the Enterprise actually looked like along.Yet the more modern shows maintained the 60s appearance.
>>218169752DSN didn't explain the difference.
>>218169799I didn’t say it did, I said it acknowledged the visual difference with Bashir, Odo, and O’Brien turning to Worf when they saw the TOS klingons asking about the difference and Worf saying they don’t discuss it with outsiders.

>>218174702>like every other person who isn't a drooling moronOh, so nobody who watches LD, got it
I just watched the voyager episode with the space elevator on the planet that was getting bombarded with asteroidsit made no fucking sensehow did the scientist have an ipad with the shields of the invading aliens? why did he hide it on a non-working space elevator?
Is The Orville /trek/ approved?
>>218174820Shut the fuck up you are supposed to be crying tears of joy that neelix finally stood up to tuvok
>>218174863yeah especially when held up to nutrek
>>218174758it lists far more than one episode that referred to shakespeare, you illiterate dumbass
>>218174484Janeway but a cute brown girl.
>>218174777No, you're saying that, because you're stupid and like to argue for no reason.>>218174787Another moron that likes to argue for no reason. No wonder normies have abandoned Star Trek. Most toxic fandom ever.
>>218174940Yes, totaling to about 1% of the amount of old Trek show references LD relies on. Never do you fail to understand the story of a TOS, TNG, etc, episode because you lack a library-like knowledge of Shakespeare. You're an idiot, an imbecile, a fucking pakled, a shit for brains, a retard, a fucking moron. You're a LD fan.
>>218174963
>>218174865theres this sfx shot too which is really comically bad
how does one go from starring in one of those videos made for a shitty motion control themepark ride to being the best character in Star Trek?

>>218174977i can't answer your question because i have a library-like knowledge of shakespeare. begone, thou egg.

>>218168377Star Trek: The Motion Picture: The Novel
>>218175157So does the TMP novel have long, boring periods where nothing interesting happens, just like the movie? And do they resolve plot points with meaningless special-effects?
>>218175097Akoochmoya.... far from the bones..... of making a profit
>>218175218No, but it does confirm Kirk's heterosexuality
>>218174863I couldn't get into it. Think I quit after the social media episode.
>>218174863The Orville is a phenomenal example of a creative working around the suits. It had to be a boner comedy to get greenlit and as soon as it was under the radar they ratcheted down the dick and fart jokes to one or two per episode and leaving it straight TNG I actually think both LD and ACK did this. But neither nearly as well. The Orville is goddamned good by season 2. I hope we see a season 4.
>>218174219?
My super lefty, gay nuTrek fan friend sent me this and I will admit I chuckled. Does that make me gay?
I'm trying to hate watch the first episode of Academy but it's not as hate watcheable as Discovery, despite being equally shit
>>218175612
>>218175612Ha!
>>218175627It builds up over time into an exquisite white hot rage.
>>218175493Way too many gay trans klingon episodes. Extremely frustrating to have so few eps and so many about this storyline I just don't care about.
>>218175666Checked, Ok I'll try to keep at it.I'm 32 minutes in and nothing has happened yet. I did laugh when the nig goblin showed up. But that's not hate watching.
>>218175573Ill be real anon, I clicked on the wrong Nico reaction image and it completely failed to accurately depict my emotions on any level. I am ashamed.
Though I'm hating pretty hard on the stupid wobbly jacket
>>218175674>Way too many gay trans klingon episodesIf that's how you want to view it, fine. I personally view it in the lens of "individual liberty versus preserving culture" lens which is a real issue we're facing every day but done in an appropriately alien allegory. I won't try to change your view because it's your opinion but my view is different. Cheers
>>218175740you talk like a fag
>>218175740It's hard for me to imagine anyone finding the plotline SO interesting that they want it to eat half the show, but I'm not trying to convince you. Season 3 was just a slog for me personally.
My dad and I still argue about which Bird of Prey is cooler
>>218175663>here's that beautiful bajoran i was telling you about
>>218175809My dad thinks I’m gay for watching star trek lol
>>218175895he's right though isn't he, be honest now
>>218175773At least I'm the one anon deigning to talk to you>>218175798I truly only remember three major episodes about it (the one about the female Moclan doesn't really count imo). More real estate was given to the redemption of Isaac's people or to dealing with the Krill and the hapa daughter. Again idc about tranny shit per se because in my personal experience trannies just play magic the gathering and keep to themselves, but I like the overarching theme of conformity to a pluralistic society (the Union) vs being true to ones culture, since that's what a lot of people face today. As an example, I was in a local gaming store (with gay and trans ally flags all over the front) and the fruity Palestinian proprietor was complementing my wife's kaffiyeh but was unable to recommend a local restaurant because he was a vegan. That's the kind of conflict that the youth of today are facing and it's interesting to see that played out tastefully in theater
I haven't seen my dad in 25 years
>>218175895My dad only watches TOS
>>218175914I'm not the anon you were talking to, I just joined the party

I can't believe we found the captain dead in anon's quarters. Why was she naked? Her uniform isn't even in the room.
>the year is 1996>Evangelion and Tomb Raider are coming out, new season of the X-Files, there's a Star Trek series with Robert Picardo as a holographic doctor, and a Buffy the Vampire Slayer series is in production>the year is 2026

When Picardo dies enjoy the producers replacing him with a digital version they've already tested and contractually forced his estate into accepting for some shit lump sum that won't include residuals

>>218176407please state the nature of the entertainment emergency
>>218165849McCoy's racism/banter only makes sense in original TOS lore, where the Enterprise is an Earth ship, and aliens intermixing is rare. Notice how Spock is the only alien crewmember (not including TAS)?It doesn't make sense under current lore, where Vulcans were involved heavily in Earth culture since 2063. McCoy probably learned about Vulcans in Elementary School. McCoy's view on Vulcans is like a guy today still having prejudice towards the Irish.
