>Francesca (2015) is an Argentinian horror-thriller, or giallo, directed by Luciano Onetti that follows two detectives investigating a series of gruesome murders 15 years after the disappearance of a young girl named Francesca. The killer leaves old coins on victims' eyes and notes referencing Dante's Divine Comedy, mimicking classic '70s Italian horror tropes

Just had an idea.
A team of teens obsessed with the Jeff the Killer image join together to try and find the lost origin of the image.
However, in doing so they unravel a mystery that was more than they bargained for... dun dun duuun.
I had a dream once about a demon that could swap people into an alternate reality. It'd go well with it. Basically someone's partner starts acting weird and eventually kidnaps their kid to try to take them to a another reality where they died.

There are also several references to Silence of the Lambs in the original Scream >>218323338 characters directly reference the movie like 3 separate times and indirectly reference it with one of the kills where the camera zooms in on the body rather than out. I think it's also safe to assume that the poster with Drew Barrymore covering her mouth was directly inspired by the iconic image of Jodie Foster's face having her mouth covered by the moth. Scream can't exist in any other decade but the 90s.

I watched Scream 7 last night, but it was half-price ticket night, so the whole audience except me was black. They really do like to yell at the screen and talk out loud to each other, crack jokes, etc. Lots of the smartphone lights visible in the audience, some even using their phone's flashlight to look around their seat. Almost nobody was there on time, to the point where most of the audience didn't see the opening scene. 30 minutes into the film, there were still groups shuffling in and finding their seats.
They like Sidney and Gale and the two black siblings, but they really hated Sidney's daughter. When she's being chased by the killer and it's playing out like any cliché slasher chase scene, everybody was just yelling "STUPID BITCH" "RUN, BITCH" "AW HELL NAW, KILL HER ASS" and the like. Someone would say something out loud like "her ass ain't be in no Scream 8" and everybody would laugh.

If I knew ahead of time, I probably would've picked a different screening, but at least the movie was dumb enough that it didn't even matter. It's by far the worst killer reveal in the series. Bad CGI kills, a ton of cameos that just feel phoned in by the actors, and I'm sick of all the family drama stuff they pack into these scripts.

This is how the Gypsies used to watch movies in ex Yugoslavia. You would get the entire cinema filled with a Gypsy tribe that traveled from their settlement on the outskirts of town, and they would do the exact same thing that you just described. They really loved the kung fu movies, especially Bruce Lee, who was their "national" hero at the time, and anything from Bollywood.

I can't do morning/afternoon movies, it has to be at night. This was the latest showing on a Tuesday night, and the theater's website estimated there would be few people. When I got there like 5 minutes before the start time, there was maybe 3 people there and I got a good seat. Then after the movie started, it filled up to almost a full theater, everybody coming in groups of 5-8.
Last time I went to half price movie night, no joke, the crunching of fried chicken was so loud that I couldn't even tell what the plot of the movie I was seeing was. They don't serve fried chicken at the theater either. I guess I know now, it's just not worth it. It's like a free-to-play multiplayer game. Even if the game is good, the playerbase is going to be terrible
> the younger zoomers LOVE laughing out loud during non funny parts.
I have noticed that people in general laugh really easily or inappropriately in movies, especially in the first half before they're focused on the film. I remember watching Joker and this fat black lady a few rows away would bust out laughing at every other line in the movie or any pained expression on Arthur's face until the subway scene when I guess she realized that Joker isn't meant to be a comedy film

Why is a cinema comfier than your home? Assuming you have a tv and surround sound.
>>
>>218346821
It is not. especially for horror where atmosphere really matters and ideally should be watched alone in the dead of the night

I have a decent TV and surround sound, but it can't compete with a giant screen and really cranked up sound.
Also not that Anon, but sometimes I do like other people around giving some reaction. Nothing excessive, but a collective gasp at a shocking part gives the movie a stronger effect. Something more campy than serious can also be nice with others laughing along.
>>
>>218346972
You can crank it up at home and its better. Trust me. Just set up the surround sound properly and its a lot better.

Dude, I have a 5.1 and a 2.1 from 2000 and the quality back in the day is so much better. My 2.1 was noticeably better than I mid range today which is just a logitech. I asked chatgpt why my 20 year old 2.1 is so high quality and it pretty much said “higher quality and craftsmanship.” It wasnt a cheap 2.1 but but it wasnt high end but the quality is really good. Surprisingly good.
My 5.1 is good, quality wise, it was top of the line mainstream. I dont get how a theater can be better. Its not even possible. You need the rear speakers and front speakers catered specifically to where you sit. Only a home can so that.
>>
>>218346972
My 5.1 costs about 1800 today. Even 2000. Like a theater is not beating that. Not beating it by speaker placement which I specifically tested and placed in perfect spots surrounding me and I literally feel inside the movie. And my speakers and subwoofer are high quality. I feel inside the movie when I actually use it.
>>
>>218346972
You probably didn’t set up your 5.1 properly. The speakers have to be set up to your sitting position and takes a bit of moving around to get the best immersion. Takes about a week to set up. You will hear it and feel it when its set up properly. Like there is a perfect distance each each should be from you. You will feel inside the movie.
>>
>>218347108
>>218347075
>>218347002
I should have clarified, I can't go too high on volume due to neighbors. The actual surround effect, I agree, the placement of the speakers will be better in a tailored home theater, but anything bass heavy with tense music, it's going to be more thrilling in a theater for me. Bless you if you don't have to worry about noise complaints

Innkeepers was great, time for found and bed.
>>
>>218347189
Sure for the 5.1. But for the 2.1, I swear it is because it is old and quality mattered back in the day. The difference between my old 2.1 and new mid range 2.1 is night and day. I swear for modern stuff, you pay for brand and not quality.
You really do need to turn up the 5.1, not loud, but enough to hear what the movie makers want you to hear.
>>
>>218346972
It is fun with a crowd when people (especially women) get jumped real bad and giggle afterwards. Some kind of collective "it's ok to be spooked" response.
>>
>>218347189
Movies have a dedicated sound team, sometimes we forget about that.
>>
>>218347287
I have Klipsch speakers that I think sound great. I'm just not able to blast them as loud as a theater can, which isn't always necessary, but it can be nice.
Also, ironically, after paying $1000+ for my speakers, the vast majority of what I watch is in mono
>>
>>218347357
Mono? Aren’t most movie files stereo and even 5.1 if you download? No idea what that is. All I know the quality of mainstream or anything past 2010 is low quality for sure. The quality and craftsmanship just isnt there. I listen to my 20 year old 2.1 and I always marvel at the sound. The 5.1 is clearly amazing. It was 1000+ 20 years ago. I had my 5.1 for so long and literally only set it up a few months ago.
You really feel the sounds around you and sound/ objects travel from front to rear speakers.
I wouldn’t trust anything in stores even 1000+. Its a different world now. Corporations don’t bother with quality.
>>
>>218347357
It doesn’t have to be loud like a theater. it just needs to be loud enough that you can hear the proper sounds and actually feel inside the movie.
>>
>>218347357

>>
>>218347449
I just mean that most of what I watch is older movies with more primitive sound. Lots of it on blu-ray, where it's listed as 2.0, but it's dual mono rather than true stereo, so I play it out of my center channel for better fidelity. Sometimes they do remix older audio into surround, though. In fact, the thing that really pushed me towards getting a surround system is when I saw that the blu-ray for Texas Chainsaw Massacre had 5.1 and even 7.1 audio, and I wanted to see what that was like. It sounds pretty good, too.
>>218347459
I agree for the most part, but sometimes, I do want it to be theater-loud. If I watched Iron Lung at home, for example, it would have just been irredeemable shit. In the theater, it was cool to be drenched in that really low, atmospheric soundtrack.

>>

>>
>>218347671

>>
>>218347729
No.
>>218347671
> Sometimes movie theaters are actually cranked too loud, I feel like I'm at a gig and need ear plugs for the high frequencies.
Theaters can definitely be too loud and it’s not as immersive as the “sweet spot” at home

You cannot sit anywhere you want or you cannot put the speakers anywhere you want. The front and rear speakers are catered to exactly where your head/ ears are. Once it is set up, you think
>wow this is like a theater
and most importantly
>wow, this was how the movie was meant to be enjoyed.
It sounds “perfect” and “immersive.” You will understand once you set up the sweet spot.

I never bought many DVDs, I just started collecting movies with blu-ray. It's a big fucking moneysink, but I've never been as into movies as when I started buying them. I like having the movies I like on the shelf behind me in great quality, and randomly buying stuff on sale has introduced me to a lot of movies I would normally have never seen

Nta but I'm the mail call anon and the number of movies I buy is peanuts compared to the number I watch. I buy movies I consider personal favorites or that are on labels I like.
>>
>>218348536
Not everything, especially since I don't pirate movies. The fact that so much is available on streaming services is also kind of a problem. I don't know what to watch. I feel much more focused if I pick up a few movies by a company that curates their offerings and puts them on sale, sometimes as low as $5 each, and then I'm invested in something specific and have an idea of what I'm watching the next few days, and can revisit it indefinitely. Not for everyone, but I enjoy it.
>>218348601
>I buy movies I consider personal favorites or that are on labels I like.
The latter is the more important point. I've seen the shit you buy, you'll buy anything if it's from Mondo Macabre. But in doing so, you watch a lot of stuff you probably wouldn't otherwise see.

As long as we're talking about movie theaters too, that's a similar situation. There's a ton of movies I go to the theater to see simply because they're playing it and I wouldn't seek it out to watch at home. I'll pay $10-14 a ticket, not knowing what I'm getting, but I'll sometimes watch something great as a result. That kind of forced structure can be useful. Again, not for everybody.

This is technically true but since I've got no problem with pirating stuff I see pretty much everything I'm interested in. My watchlist is in the thousands now, even watching at least two movies a day. Watching Door 2: Tokyo Diary right now.

I think everyone should understand by now the inherent downsides of streaming services with how it's turned into cable 2.0 because as usual corpos got greedy and wanted the whole thing for themselves so you pay twice as much now for probably half of the selection of movies and TV shows that were available on Netflix over a decade ago. Even torrenting comes with its own downsides as well because storage space costs money. If you just want a few dozen movies sure, but if you're like me I've downloaded over 4TB worth of movies, probably well over 2000 total and I was only able to get that many for that little space because of RARBG's god tier compression so most of my movies are x265 between 1-3 GB each for standard BD rips, but you will always sacrifice sound and image quality on a large scale unless you download the ISO rip which takes up ~50 GB each or between 60-100 GB for 4Ks.

I love owning my movies and games physically and displaying them on my shelf and for movies especially there's actual benefits to a blu-ray/4K disc over simply torrenting and streaming provided you have the right setup. I don't think I'll be buying all 2000 movies I've torrented though just the ones I like well enough. Some day I will also buy writable blu-ray discs and make backups of my collection for offline usage and having official DVDs/BDs/4Ks on top of all that is just an extra form of backup so you're all covered.

Another disadvantage of having too many options on your Plex server or Netflix subscription is choice paralysis which you don't get as often browsing through a physical collection and it just feels more purposeful going through this process to watch your film or TV show than just letting Netflix's algorithm decide for you. I used to rewatch the same few movies over and over and over again as a kid since I only had a limited amount of DVDs, but years can go by before I rewatch a movie now that I have so many options even if it's one of my favorites.

Oh and of course streaming services also heavily compress their streams. There's no such thing as true 4K on a streaming service or even true 1080p though I guess compressed 4K would have that quality, but you'll have to pay premium price for 4K just to get full HD quality streams in that case.
>>
>>218349100
I appreciate anons who are backing everything up, god knows the streaming services are gonna attempt to usher in a new dark age once physical sales slow down. It's possible they'll just stop the sale of them to attempt to coral people online.
I don't have that much storage space so I only keep copies of the stuff I want to watch again. But I'm not the biggest re-watcher so that helps.
>>218349135
The downside of everyone being obsessed with bigger pixel numbers is the other factors have gone out the window. But for files, yeah pretty much it's mainly about size and they have a reason to avoid giving you that.

For everything that isn't an extremely mainstream film, the main reason they're available on streaming services in high quality is because there was a demand for a physical release that necessitated a new scan of the film stock and some restoration work to make it look good

Some sick deaths and decent visuals. But it's literally a mish mash of plot points from other films with a minor idea that doesn't change anything. Final Destination with Smile 2 stuff as the ending.

That shit is why I love cinemas. I watched a camrip of The Orphan where during one scene which needed it some guy shouted out YOU'RE GONNA GET RAPED like the actor would hear him and I wouldn't have it any other way
What bothers me is people now go to cinemas to text from a different room. A lot of them have a very hard time working out the plot because they've got a phone addiction, so they have flash photography of the film but probably couldn't tell you the lead character's name or the major conflict.

Just finished the trilogy. Part one is a very cool and bare bones Woman in Peril thriller, the premise is simplicity itself: a busy housewife accidentally rubs a door to door salesman the wrong way and he becomes obsessed with wrecking her life, ala Unhinged. It's super melodramatic and some shots are so long that they become ridiculous.
2 is a straight pink film, no real horror element to it, but it's one of the best ones I've seen. Chikako Aoyama is the poster child for 80s pink to me (despite her not really getting started until the 90s.). I like this one best despite it being the least horror based. Call girl has weird customers, is depressed, end of story. A lot like Tokyo Decadence.
3 is an early Kiyoshi Kurosawa and I think explains him a lot. It plays in the same sandbox the first two do in being about a female insurance salesperson struggling to survive, adds a sexual element, but then turns its social concerns into as directly a horrorish metaphor as possible. Kurosawa and Hisayasu Sato both traffic in the same school Cronenberg does and all three are great at it.

there was a few shots that i really liked, i liked the one where the main girl whose name i dont remember went feral in the car, and you had a trunk camera, i liked the shots of the dolls under the cloth with their eyes and i liked cage screaming in his car
other than that this shit was irredeemable, no logic, no sense, no attachments to the characters, no reasoning for their way of going about things nothing

You guys said this was good. It's just more generic traumaslop

yeah. has some decent jumpscares and buildup but I hated the whole ending sequence and the monster didn't do it for me.
sequel was an improvement, though still similar.

There are a few obvious shills here that promote garbage on a regular basis. As time goes on you start to spot it immediately.

I Saw the Tranny Glow was fine. I'm just not enough of a chud to care and substitute any gay shit with my own schizo interpretations.
Same goes with We're All Going To The World's Fair. Everyone seemed to think the guy at the end was a killer pedo, if anything I just saw him as a caring person, potentially the victim of the story.

Never EVER watch movies that are recommended here, they are all full of gay stuff or are just bad.
There's a lot of crossover in the site's userbase with reddit, that's why. People here deliberately watch movies that are LGBT.

I don't remember the context behind this scene specifically but I think people often forget that Dawn of the Dead is supposed to be a satire of consumerism. It's not outright comedy horror though so maybe that's why, but it's not a very serious film either. It has completely outlandish over the top scenes like that trigger happy racist SWAT guy in the beginning who just indiscriminately blasts all the Puerto Ricans in an apartment building and one of their heads just fucking explodes and then he gets immediately killed by his own team for clearly going off the rails or that scene when all the bikers. It's actually a pretty campy horror movie compared to NOTLD or Day.

Really sad for Bella, the side characters have way more engaging storylines, too bad she became Monstro Elisasue, nice makeup which was surprising
Hoping there's some cyber bodyhorror with robotmom next season

Knowing Ryan Murphy, there's no telling how crazy it will get. Luckily for Bella though, it does look like nanomachines may be able to save her.
