You either submit to your wife's total will, or mentally control and dominate her until she bows under your will or simply divorce. Relationships are mental war, only very few percentage can live in peaceful democracy. Sex, money, assets, kids, friends, family, divorce rape, all become war effort within years.

watched tobe hooper's remake of toolbox murders earlier, it was alright for what it was, but a shit "remake". it was clearly inspired by the cecil hotel, so i'm not sure why they didn't just do that instead of loosely incorporating tools for the murder weapons... and it doesn't even show tits!
just watch the original since it has better kills, tits and a more entertaining ending

I watched The Taking of Debra Logan

I had high expectations and they were not met, as usual. Disappointing.

I thought the Alzheimers plot had potential but the possession shit was just dumb and lame. The twist was idiotic. The "scares" were laughable and clownish. Maybe a child would find it scary. I dont know. I mostly found it annoying, particularly the daughter, who so reminded me of all the unbearable aging white women I have met. Ugh. The film crew bit was equally annoying, the asian chick was just a bleating harpy.

I could go on but I wont.

Taking of Debra Logan

Decent 80s horror anthology, they tried to relate the stories by having a cat walk pass 2 of them, but they have little to do with one another, just like Creepshow 2 it was originally supposed to have 4 stories instead of just 3, but unlike that movie the story that was cut ("Sometimes They Come Back") got later adapted as a TV movie

Pretty good overall. What could've easily turned out to be just another It Follows style generic curse chain monster flick quickly turns into something more by making it equal parts psychological/supernatural horror where it doesn't also attempt to try to be ambiguous as to whether or not the curse is actually real. I'm a sucker for stylish cinematography which is one of the main reasons I also love Sam Raimi's Evil Dead movies so much and I think Parker Finn is very good at that and he's good at directing his actors, this is the type of movie that lives or dies by its lead actor and Sosie Bacon did a really great job here. The music is also surprisingly good and helps elevate the mood of a scene though a bit generic, but I do think some of the more unique sounding tracks were underused. I've seen some confusion as to whether or not it's a horror comedy because the premise might sound ridiculous at first, but it isn't even a little bit and it takes itself pretty seriously and it works better this way because the sinister smile concept isn't anything new.

One thing I have a hard time with in supernatural horror, and this is more of a personal taste thing, is when there's absolutely zero rhyme or reason or any clear rules behind an evil entity. It's why I couldn't get into The Grudge at all, but Smile similar to It Follows and The Ring establishes how you get the curse and how to break the chain but not how to defeat it which is touched upon in the sequel a little instead. Some people might ask themselves why in the end if the new witness already knew that by witnessing the suicide he would get cursed why he didn't just immediately close his eyes or turn away and run so he wouldn't get cursed and yeah that's not very good writing, but who knows what the being is capable of even before it possesses you. I also like how there's an actual in-universe reason for why it spends days terrorizing its host rather than killing immediately after possession like in It Follows.

I'm not quite sure if this is better or equally as good as Smile 1. It leans way harder on the psychological aspect and is actually a tad confusing given the ending. You're not quite sure how much of it was real so this is very much a 2nd viewing required kind of film so I might do that some day, but I did really like it as much as the first and I can say for absolute certain that Naomi Scott delivered a truly Oscar worthy performance like damn. In a different timeline she would've gotten a nom. Other than that, I think Parker Finn actually improved his directing somewhat, though I do think jump scares were a little overused here and that classic suspense building trope in horror films where a character walks very slowly forward apprehensively was also a little overused.

I've read some of the critique and it seems some people thought it was a pointless sequel that didn't add enough lore and felt it was just a retread of the first one, but 1) it's a sequel so the structure will inevitably feel similar that is just the nature of franchise movies, otherwise it ends up like the Hellraiser sequels that were clearly unrelated scripts at first that just got Pinhead shoehorned in after the fact and 2) though we can't be certain if the way to defeat the entity was just it fucking with Naomi Scott it does sound very plausible. It very much isn't just a retread of the first movie which was also a mystery movie, but this one isn't really a mystery. Anyone who genuinely thinks it's just a lazy retread doesn’t understand what that means. Another thing you might notice quickly is while the original was rather humorless, this one has a bit of humor sprinkled in but mostly only in the very beginning before Skye Riley gets cursed.

So the ramifications of the ending are scary as hell, but it also makes me worry for the future of the franchise. I don't want an endless expanded universe that you know how is going to end before you even watch it and it unfortunately sounds like that's exactly what Parker Finn is planning. We don't know for certain if the Smile monster can actually possess more than one person simultaneously though, but does he have the chops to follow up with such a large scale 3rd film? It will inevitably disappoint people who were expecting multiple possessions if he doesn't do that for the sequel. Personally, I would like to see this franchise end as a trilogy or quadrilogy at most with either the Smile monster getting defeated or humanity perishes. I'm not sure if I think it's a good idea to delve into the origins of the monster either, sometimes it's better not knowing these things, but that's clearly what some people want and expect given some of the reviews I've read and what some anons have said. There's no way to please everyone though.

I've also seen some people criticize the Smile monster's appearance for being overly exagerrated/goofy looking, but how else is it supposed to look exactly? For one, you only see what it truly looks like at the very end of both films and the design fits thematically, but maybe it would’ve been better if you never saw it fully? Idk, maybe.

Sitting in theater, that is exactly the feeling that set in in the first like 30minutes.
It isn't "lazy" (there's lots of good direction), but the film doesn't have the mystery element of the first one and that's a major part of what makes a horror film exciting. It never really feels like a new avenue has opened up, and it basically has the same ending.

>The monster can trick you whenever it wants, just when you think you've escaped, nope,it was all an hallucination.
Because it's a cosmic horror entity that's functionally similar to a parasite or a brain tumor, this is spelled out in the sequel. The Grudge 2 literally starts with that little ghost kid getting a completely random couple to crash their car and people just randomly die. Then the MC gets impregnated with the reincarnation of the ghost woman who she then raises for a few years before she gets shoved down a flight of stairs by her and dies. The Grudge's reach goes far beyond just the house or anyone who's been inside it there are no rules at all and shit just happens because the plot demands it. That's not good writing, horror or not. I don't think the first one was quite as bad with that stuff though, but there's literally no reason for the old woman to be alive for so long, there's no good reason for the ghosts not to kill her immediately like they do with everyone else, none that I remember at least. Compare that to The Ring that establishes that anyone who's watched the cursed tape gets a phone call telling them they have 7 days to live and the only way to avoid their fate is by tricking someone else into watching the tape transferring the curse, but only people who have seen the tape can get killed so Sadako can't just target random people whenever she feels like it like The Ju-On ghosts can.

Forgot to add but with the Smile monster we know nobody who hasn't witnessed a suicide by one of its cursed victims will ever be able to see it or get touched by it directly. We know there is a reason why it actually waits a few days up to a week frightening and jump scaring without immediately killing its host and jumping onto the next person because it feeds off of its victim's trauma and gets stronger each day until it's finally had enough, and then it still needs at least another person to transfer its soul into before they die whereas in Ju-On there's no real reason why one victim lives longer than the other beyond the pregnant woman. There isn't even really a way to break the chain in Smile not really, because even just killing someone else before it's your time still requires another witness that it can transfer to, there is only one potential way to defeat it that makes any kind of sense and it requires the ultimate sacrifice that most humans naturally wouldn't want to do.

We know that the It Follows entity doesn't need to wait and just immediately gets to targeting the next cursed victim and the only way to end the curse is once everyone who's been cursed is dead because it will just go back to targeting the previous person in the curse chain after killing the next victim who got the curse transferred so once Maika Monroe's character finally dies her boyfriend will be the target once again until/if he manages to have sex with someone else before it gets to him and the cycle will repeat endlessly like that until everyone is dead. We don't know if that means the entity will then disappear for good or what caused it to appear in the first place, we just know it's a mindless killing machine unlike the Smile monster. Supernatural horror, even the cosmic kind needs consistent logic in order to work otherwise I can't bring myself to give a shit and it's just boring.

I can understand being disappointed that there's no longer any mystery, but that would've ironically made it too similar to the first one. I think Parker Finn made the right decision by leaning even harder into the reality mindfuck rather than simply making it another mystery because there are only two ways that these movies can end, and I do think it's better to not have the Smile entity defeated unless you're sure you don't want anymore sequels since bringing it back from the dead like so many horror villains before it is way worse. The first movie ended with the chain continuing like normal, the second movie ended similar to the first, but with the implication of potentially tens of thousands of people getting infected/cursed. As far as sequels go it succeeds at remaking the ending from the first movie but "bigger and better".
>>218378494
Yeah maybe we don't actually know for sure if it's possible for it to live inside multiple people at once, but it will be interesting to see where Smile 3 will take the story to next at least.

I don't think it should start up again, we don't really need to know where it comes from honestly as I think that would kill any remaining bit of mystery and not be as engaging without it being just another botched demon ritual summoning or an alien like Stephen King's It, but to each their own I guess. I'm just saying that defeating it goes against our survival instincts unless it's done in the exact way the sequel sets up. Most humans would rather spend the rest of their life inside a prison cell being miserable over dying so I'm more curious to see how it gets defeated with its victim surviving the odds. That's much more suspenseful and interesting to me than simply having every ending be similar to the first two or it getting revived again.
>>
>>218378619
Meh I still left the theater going, "k... I guess I have to wait for the next film to see something interesting". The one new element was somewhere between a power buff to the demon and a total Wizard of Oz cheap shot, and you only get it at the end.
Smile 2 could have started with that mass scenario. It likely exists as it does just to pump out 4 more sequels.
Now, all that sounds very negative but it's just my gripes with the plot. The cast, jumpscare setups etc. were all decent.
>>218378684

> I don't think it should start up again, we don't really need to know where it comes from honestly as I think that would kill any remaining bit of mystery and not be as engaging without it being just another botched demon ritual summoning or an alien like Stephen King's It, but to each their own I guess.
That’s exactly what is interesting. How does it awaken after being dormant? For a millenia…

> Most humans would rather spend the rest of their life inside a prison cell being miserable over dying so I'm more curious to see how it gets defeated with its victim surviving the odds
Millions die by over doses. If a fentanyl addict gets it, the druggy homeless camp gets it and everyone dies. Many possibilities. People kill themselves all the time too.

No, the grudge curse can spread once the person is infected. It's why it lets people live and leave the house. Smile has no rules since the demon has no weakness. Where did it even come from, why is it killing people? Its just an exsuse to do creepy effects until the finale.
>>
>>218378893
They spent quite a lot more on Smile 2 than the first one. The modern horror landscape has studios responding to audiences desiring new ideas rather than retreads. If they were going to do the same thing again Smile 3 could already be out by now. But we'll see.

ok I just did a speed read of this. very talented, though not my thing since under it all it's a woman's romance and the "uwu how hot would it be if my ex boyfriend beat me up" angle triggers my wahmen-hating bone.
impressive that they're producing disturbed gooner girls like this now. wonder if she's autistic.

No anime, comics or stop motion in this general.

My aunt left my boomer uncle at my house cause he got too drunk and he made me put on this movie. I could not fucking stand it once I realized it was right wing slop when the demon started ranting about LeBron James

idk about autistic but she is Italian. If you spedread it you may have missed all the salo-style BDSM and cannibalism but it gets pretty fucked up. I thought the first arc of the dominatrix x incel war was a lot of fun. Not overtly preachy or anything like that.

She does a lot of erotic art including several covers for various Cheeky Comics series. Lovesick has a prequel series called Doll Parts. It's nowhere near as graphic but it's in some ways much more disturbing. It's about Domino as a child/teenager.

It's up.
>Follow the final recruits of a grueling special ops boot camp who encounter a deadly force from beyond this world
>Starring /ourguy/ Alan Ritchson
>>

So ugly. Would be a legit incel if she was man.

How's the Monarch series?
Does it at least have a lot monster action/scenes like Alien Earth or is basically just drama/humans talking?

One of my favs. The endless was also good, both films take place in the same universe and with the same entity , even one of the main characters of that film shows up in a short scene this one.

Thank you.

Yeah, looking this up I saw it's connected to The Endless, which I've not seen. I'll watch that next.

>>

I did actually slow down towards the end because I wanted to know what she was getting at. it did a good job of finding the humanity within the obscenity at least.
someone a while back said they watched an asian movie based on a guro that was about some girl who could regenerate after being chopped up (?) anyway I speed-read that as well and can say it's amusing but not my thing, kind of just fetish content.

>>218379379
She's nervous because she knows she's too cute, and mortals like us can't handle it.
>>
>>218379347
Do zoomoids even experience attraction or do they just analyze facial features?

>>218379385
You're thinking of Mai-chan's Daily Life, which yes is a straight up fetish porn comic. It's the origin of the BABYFUCK! IT'S AWWWRIIIIGHT meme from way back in the day. I haven't seen the movie based on it and can hardly believe they actually made one.

>Horror Hospital (1973)
watch X-Ray next
then See No Evil 2 which has both Harris and the slut sister from Ginger' Snaps + hospital setting too
Then Cold Prey 2, I just love horror sequels that take place in hospitals immediately after the first end, poor main girl can never catch a break like Halloween 2
>>
>>218379797
X ray as in Hospital Massacre?
>>
