While there is a grain of truth in the issue that Sylph is slow, it's grossly exaggerated. Ideally the whole mystery about the circumstances of the sword should have been wrapped up a couple chapters sooner, but that would have come at the cost of introducing the water snek. It does a fine job at juggling developing the characters, plot, and worldbuilding all things considered. Comapre something like Garan no Hime which has better art and far more action yet Sylph has stronger emotional impact.

An up to 90% drop in engagement between your almost half-a-decade-old amateur work and professional output has to sting. The more I look into it, the more it seems that the original was just way more popular and the published series just hemorrhaged readership the longer it went on. I would bet money on this being a case of a bad or inexperienced editor.
