Do you spend a lot of time looking at ai slop vs human made art? A few months ago I was really into genning so I was spending hours everyday looking at ai art. If that's all you're looking at then its quality is acceptable. But then I'd find art that I'd really like and it'd be human made. Sometimes I'd know this for sure because it was made before 2020, sometimes I'd know because it's a piece of art I recognize from before, and sometimes I just trust that it's human made because it says it is (or more accurately it doesn't say it's AI generated). Even as AI art gets better and better and harder to distinguish from human made art I still haven't found a piece of AI art that's captured my attention in the way older fanart did.

I think if we had to go that route, the third game would be what you said but also the start of the World of Ruin up until at least Sabin. It would be weirder to START a game at World of Ruin and require too much "Last time, on Dragon Ball Z" shit vs easing you into it near the end of Game 3. If you end around recruiting Sabin, it's an Empire Strikes Back-tier ending - Shit's still fucked and you still have a long term goal, but you have the hint of Hope.

No stretching shit out, barring any major story changes (just streamlining and making it make more sense in the new 4-game narrative), Game 4 is the final one where you recruit everyone else in whatever order, pure open world less railroady, and the final fight vs Kefka Tower & God Kefka.

After Game 4 is out, Game 1 gets an update with New Game+ where you can import a Game 4 save and start fresh with challenges optional, and taking an idea from Chrono Trigger, a way to go straight to Kefka with whatever you have like the Bucket to Lavos at the End of Time.
