Just got around to beating this game on my backlog. Was a ridiculously long game (like 70ish hours to beat most of the stuff).It was fun, was able to beat like 95% of the puzzles without looking at hints, but some of the reflexes required for this made me feel my unc status. Auto death + shield on death + AP on death + auto revive once per fight is a pretty nice one, it reminds me of some of the wild shit I pulled in Bravely Default (double BP for both your party and the enemy, no damage both for you and the enemy), another JRPG I really like. Second of all, the addition of parries completely changes the way you interact with the game. In normal JRPGs, long animations tend to annoy me. I grew up playing chess, and the feeling of strategising is what draws me to turn-based games. The moves themselves can be close to instant, I just want to plan my moves. E33 changes that, as I actually have to pay attention to enemy animations without them feeling like a drag. QTEs can go suck a dick though.And the enemy design is great too. No, for instance all game balance falls apart in act 3 unless you deliberately gimp yourself, it's way too easy to oneshot every boss in the entire game unless you do so. But fun gameplay, great art direction, character writing, and absolute top tier music makes it one of my all-time favourites. I'm no stranger to flawed games, I love VTMB and Witcher 1, and E33 has way fewer flaws than those two.
