Blizzard should add SPRINT resource to player movement and replace normal running with dynamic running, a new and ENGAGING system for player movement. You can run at 150% speed but it drains your SPRINT quickly and you move at 25% speed if you're out of SPRINT. You can press 5 new buttons like DASHING RUSH, PRANCING FORWARD, SWIFT QUICKNESS and BRONZE TIMEJUMP to make your SPRINT regenerate. You also regenerate it 10% faster when running next to a wall. You reach levelcap having never made a friend, and then the only thing left to do is 1. do easy world quests by yourself (not fun), or 2. PUG the same half dozen scripted corridor dungeons and over and over for six months, or 3. PUG the same raid over and over for nine months. All in pursuit of higher numbers and your hard work will be made irrelevant come the next patch when the dungeons are tuned up and catchup gear is implemented. And you are not chilling with friends while doing this. "Borrowed power" became a popular phrase, but people are mistaking the symptom for the problem, which is that retail WoW does not facilitate the natural formation of friendships and guilds to play with, and without that the game is not fun to play and you are better off playing a real singleplayer game.1/2

It does not give satisfying progression, so a lot of people realized they did not like doing "chores" or running the same content over and over again just for higher numbers, and quit. By 2019/2020, most of the original talent and big names were gone. Chris Metzen, John Staats, Mark Kern, Tom Chilton, Greg Street, Russell Brower, Wei Wang, Mark Gibbons, etc. There was the perception that the game was now being run by incompetents. The Western AAA gaming industry was also being villified on youtube as people became aware of the exploitative nature of the industry, with there being a surplus of young men who grew up playing video games thinking they want to make games and then being used as replaceable sweatshop laborers. There was a large outcry against WoW's story at the time. Personally I think that the quality was about the same as usual - WoW's story always had huge problems going back to Wrath and TBC, but now people were comparing WoW's story to singleplayer games, with FF14 (which is a JRPG visual novel) becoming popular at the time, which magnified the hate.
