Reposting progress: fog of war, because there is nothing more fun than getting ambushed, flanked, encircled and other things ending in 'ed happening by surprise from behind.

After thinking about it, I think I will just bite the bullet when it come to the fog's visual effect, and write a shader function that will be used by ALL the level's object so they treat the fog of war map as a light/shade source. Pretty much the only way I can think of to cleanly have the classic "non-visible area are darkened" visual effect in 3D.
Booted Starcraft 2 to check and it look like that's what they did.

From experience doing porn animations involving clothing, having the skin actually modeled under the cloth's mesh is a massive source of clipping issues unless the clothes are super-fucking thick.
And Victorian era is full of corset which pretty much have *negative* thickness compared to the non-corsetted torso.
Although I guess this will only be a problem if you need them to do acrobatics. It they don't straight much from T-pose & standard movements clipping-through-clothes should probably not be an issue.

bros, what would be a better way to do it? it's for a game and basically my function reads a .txt file and stores the parameters that are used to spawn the enemies later (like their type, position, and other typical stuffs).
but i feel like it's very unsafe, meaning i'll be tinkering with this raw text file and it'll be tedious not to mix parameters up, and if i forget one on a line, the whole thing doesn't make any sense anymore because of how the parameters are extracted by the >> operator
i've thought of a quick python software with a gui to help me make this without too much mistakes
and yeah i don't want to include external libraries like a json one. because the more libraries you have, the harder it is to build your games on other systems, even if it works on your machine™ with c++ at least
and also, when all the testing has been done, should i hardcode this in the source files? cause i'm not a big fan of having my level files dangling and also the line [code]std::string fileName = "..."+std::to_string...[/code] looks pretty unsafe

I've always been of the philosophy that when you're really early you should actually be trying NOT to get too much attention until you're further along. there are plenty of obvious flaws that shouldn't exist in a DEMO. but that's also the difference between /our/ demo days and demos for consumers. you wouldn't want to share gameplay of a game so rough around the edges with your actual audience. marnix and thomas should have figured out and communicated if they are rating these demos as if they were commercial product demos or according to what other standard. it's not clear. as a commercial product demo the shanghai thing is definitely D tier. it wouldn't attract people to buy the game. but I assume the dev isn't using this demo to advertise on Steam for example, as it's way too early to do that.
