This is about a porn game idea I have:
Is there a way to include a large variety of clothing customization in a 2d game without having to draw sprites for every clothing and position variation? Or is this something only feasible through 3d models?
I don't believe it's something very ambitious, I was planning on learning ren'py to do it.

Cleaned up code a bit, removing dead code replacing std::cout logging with proper logging and replacing obsolete Ogre 1.x accessors
It's funny: Due to the way Ogre development has happened those accessors are obsolete for Ogre 1 but the same accessors were not obsolete for Ogre 2 which my code was originally written for
Fixed segfault on converter, it was simply about the destruction order of Ogre components.

I was bored and am autistic with stats so I decided to plug in the dates & number of reviews from the list of /agdg/ games into LibreOffice Calc to see if there is a correlation. There actually is one, which makes sense as newer games would have fewer reviews, but it feels like the numbers are also skewed due to a lot more lower-reviewed games in recent years.

I can't even fathom how little thought must be going through some poor stupid nigger's head as he uploads his capsule art after paying $100 just to be there and doesn't include a character's face. Do you want to fail? If you aren't already a well known IP then you need a hook to get people to even click on your game and the best way to do this is to simply include a face. But braindead stupid monkey nigger retards just decide to not for this for ???? Who knows why.

just an idea, if you're willing to run it. reduce the current recent releases of say the last 4 years to the same quantity of games in the past. meaning remove the lowest performers and leave the biggest hits. what's the data say when we use only the best performers of the present and compare them to the all of the ones from the golden years?

Lol if you buy Asesprite over their homepage it will use Humble Bumble as the seller; however Humble Bundle clearly has in their terms of service that you may not use any products of them for commercial purposes.
It's why they don't give out tax receipts so you technically cannot deduct the purchase as tax expense.

Meanwhile Asesprite says on their homepage that commercial use is allowed.
Nobody cares about any of this besides perhaps my tax authorities but lol. Guess I should have just compiled it myself instead of supporting the devs.

>>
>>491995364
https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/open-source-misses-the-point.en.html
>The terms “free software” and “open source” stand for almost the same range of programs. However, they say deeply different things about those programs, based on different values. The free software movement campaigns for freedom for the users of computing; it is a movement for freedom and justice. By contrast, the open source idea values mainly practical advantage and does not campaign for principles. This is why we do not agree with open source, and do not use that term.

It is, Aseprite restricts your freedom to share software freely which is one of the freedoms necessary for a software to qualify as Free Software (See https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.en.html)
>“Free software” means software that respects users' freedom and community. Roughly, it means that the users have the freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proprietary_software
>Proprietary software is software that grants its creator, publisher, or other rightsholder or rightsholder partner a legal monopoly by modern copyright and intellectual property law to exclude the recipient from freely sharing the software

It's the ratio of people who bought the game after wishlisting it. Note that just like not everybody who wishlisted it would buy it, neither are all purchases from wishlists. That's probably what they want but according to their ToS strictly speaking you cannot as a business buy a license from them.
That's why they don't give out invoices.
You also cannot deduct your expenses (technically) as business expenses.

So if you earn 20 bucks and buy this for 20 bucks, you cannot deduct it as costs and still need to pay taxes on the full 20 bucks.

any thoughts or experiences on offering and acquiring a partnership with an existing dev studio that might have better means to help develop it? like we'd make a contract that they own the game and i'd get some royalty/equity deal out of it, and we'd work together to finish it. i don't really care that much about owning the IP, or deal with the risk of quitting my job, taking out a loan and starting a company of my own, i just want to dev the game and have it be the best game it can be.

not sure how you managed to misunderstand everything i said. let me clarify. they would own the game, so i'd be working for them, and not the other way around. i'd be paid in royalties relative to my contribution to the game, which means i won't even be getting paid unless the game comes out and actually sells. bigger question is whether they'd be incentivized to finish the game (that would probably have to be resolved with some kind of equity compensation for me)

No real overworld map or tiles or anything. The player leaves town, a random map is generated, then if the player likes it for some reason like there's a dungeon entrance on it or a lot of land masses that increase the spawn rate of a specific monster are there then they can create a map to that tile and revisit it whenever. So the overworld map will only have the towns the player can visit on it and that's it, no overworld travel required. Scope reduced.

Hey guys just wondering how many hours should I spend working on my game each day? I have to dedicate about 1-2 hours of my day to work (remote tech job with only 1-2 real hours of work per day btw) so I’m curious how much I should dedicate to game dev to avoid burnout? I also spend 1-2 hours each day lifting weights, buying groceries, cooking/eating. So that really only leaves me with like 12-13 hours of free time. I don’t even know if I have enough time to spend the thousands of dollars I make each week sitting on my ass watching YouTube videos

I agree with you. Making games that you're not interested in is too much of a slog for me, meanwhile working on an "harder" game but that I actually want to make is such a breeze to work on. I find the idea that first you need to make pong, then tictacto, then tetris, then a platformer like mario, then ..., and then finally you make the game you want to make. Is such a study waste of time.
>>
>>492010323
>why does practice have to mean make some retarded trash game you are uninterested in?
Nobody ever said that. I don't know why people read "Make smaller projects/join game jams" as "Just make slop you don't care about one hundred times over". You can absolutely put your best foot forward towards a smaller game and maybe even later expand on it. Super Hexagon was a game jam game for example and that's still a classic.

I do not see who this is for. If someone wants to play MMO healing, they'd be better off playing even a free to play MMO rather than a single player healing game.

If you really want to make this game, and you'd play it, then alright.

either handle multiple units (group them by distance) as one unit and look for neighboring ennemies.

what RTS does are to compute the entire map once, by taking into account the units as groups and then if a unit already is closer to another avoid to compute twice the path.

I now wonder if you can prebake the paths in a RTS before the game into a lookup table and then simply do a basic check.

Pretty sure that would eat disk like crazy, and could be some exponential shit if too detailed.

Pretty sure you could optimize it by simply looking up paths towards the closest path spot and then optimize it by reducing the path lookup to other very few elements.

But I am pretty sure I am just reinvented a quadtree look up table by that point.

once you have practice coding, you realize you can do a bunch of tricks to optimize.

I'm not a PHD CS autismo, but I would do shit like computing on one frame a chunk of units paths, as single unit, then in another thread or frame I would compute the path of another chunk.

Or do something like run the pathfinding at lower FPS than the rest of the game, since pathfinding doesn't need to run at 30-60 fps.

Pretty sure I would use a godot timer and set it to half a second or one second intervals.

the log was like:
(Filename: C:\buildslave\unity\build\Runtime/Shaders/GpuPrograms/ShaderVariantCollection.cpp Line: 356)
Crash!!!
so I did heaps of shader related fixes I found, none helped(I think..).
then I made things worse by accident(moved a shadervariant file to /resources based on some forum post) and I was still crashing, but also getting:
Unity.exe caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
but I didn't immediately know it was because of the file I moved, since I was trying other stuff between build attempts too, so I was checking my ram, updating drivers, running various cmd shit etc. Deleting /library and rebuilding it took the longest. and it still crashed after that due to my mistake of moving the file. in the end it was probably a corrupt file that go re-imported and fixed it I guess. I am zonked

They throw in all the taxes in a big pot and make up a plan that states where they pump money into.
For example, if you pay tax for the roads, they can just decide to not spend anything on roads, but instead to give development aid to China, for example.
That's currently happening in Germany, for example.

I've been tinkering with 3D models, the way you reuse animations between them is for them to share the same armature, right?

So what I should do is have a "mannequin" model in blender which I use to make animations, then I can make "real" models by duplicating the blender file and using the mannequin as a rough guide, assign the bones to the new model, and once I export it I can load them in the engine and give them the mannequin animations via code, right?

Basically you generate your Rigify rig, then make another rig, copy all the deformation bones with a simple hierarchy that won't confuse Godot, constrain the gamerig to the Rigify rig so you can pose it with the fancy widgets, and then bake all the animations to the game rig frame by frame so there's no possibility of them fucking up. There's an addon that does most of it for you

No, look up retargetting, a process where you use an animation library across multiple different rigs by basically telling the animation what the equivalent bone in the new rig is to the one they're expecting.

I saw holo mountain's credits (same studio and basically same game) and there were like 20 different people that worked on it for reference. Their hololive version of the game (they literally just reskinned it with hololive) has like 35k sales based on scores on the leaderboard which isn't terrible but puts things in perspective

So I can give you tips on how to fix it, but if you've already made a bunch of animations, you're unfortunately going to lose them.
1) In the outliner, delete all animation data
2) Unparent your mesh from your rig and go to your meshes' vertex data. Delete all vertex groups.
Then you can go ahead and re-rig your mesh and it should work. Also, make sure you're using blender 4.x, blender 3's gltf exporter caused all kinds of issues for me. And always put your rest pose at the top of the nla stack when exporting.

That's not how this works. Even Vampire Survivors was released in early December and only in January did people pick up on it and it started to blow.
Obviously I'm not saying Marmo is the next VS, but all he needs is a couple of streamers to show interest and he can make a decent enough revenue over the next few months.
>>
>>492034546
CGDive's export process is an abomination. I tried it when I started with Godot, and you literally have to create a new rig and reimport the entire character from scratch if you want to add just a single new animation. It also doesn't solve common rig issues like he claims. Rig issues when exporting to godot are primarily caused by old animation data that needs to be cleared, old vertex groups that need to be cleared, using an older version of blender, and not keeping your rest animation at the top of the nla stack everytime you export. See my comment here >>492037060. With regards to that last point, if I need to add a single new animation to my character in godot, I will import my character to an import folder in godot with the rest pose at the top of the nla stack, and the new animation below it. Then in godot, I will open that imported .glb file, copy the animation from the animationplayer node, and then paste it into the animationplayer node in my character's main tscn file. If the rest pose isn't at the top of the stack, the animation may come out messed up when copy pasting the animation into your tscn file's animation player.

4.3 has retargeting and animation library support now so it might be worth checking if that provides a viable workflow.

>I haven't had to recreate the whole rig when adding an animation, no idea what you're talking about.
I don't mean you manually have to, but that the widget itself creates a brand new rig. That means that if you add a new animation to your main rig, you have to create a brand new rig again with the widget and reimport the whole thing over again instead of doing the copy/paste method I brought up before. This is a major time sink because reimport the entire thing means having to reapply custom materials in godot, and resetting custom method tracks and loops for every animation instead of just the reimported ones.

i'm making a racing game and sometimes the ai gets stuck(like, upside down or some other states). i'd like to have a reset function, so i made it so it checks if velocity is zero, but sometimes the car will hit a wall, try to steer and move extremely slowly to the side, so the speed is not zero.
is there a clever way to like, average the speed or something to detect if the car is stuck? i'd appreciate input if anyone has any racing game experience

In games I've played, the ai will decide if it hasn't moved very far in a handful of seconds to use its reset.
So you could decide that amount of seconds, and every tick update a running speed measurement. If the running speed measurement is below some threshold then reset.

In my game the AI will check if it has moved enogh since the last check, if it hasn't if will add a stuck stack and at x amounts of stuck stack it will attempt unstucking.
Reaching a waypoint, having no waypoints or moving a normal amount of distance will set the stuck stacks to 0.

>>
I'm a 2d artist/animator for a number of years and have been learning 3d. For levels, it seems like doing low poly seems like a really fun way to go, but for characters im still having a lot of doubts. Like in 2d, I can make rigs in toonboom on top of just drawing specific unique frames, but then I try to think about how it's gonna work if the character was a 3d model and things start to hurt my head fast. Like a slow motion ribcage getting blown off a character, I can draw the initial frames all by hand have so it's literally just 2 planes worth of animation.
But for 3d, outside of having to model the chunks and internals, i can't even imagine how i'd make the actual explosion part happen that will look half decent. Blend shapes maybe?
Same in regards to dismemberment and whatnot.

Is it the wrong process to develop the game around the story? What about giving both equal influence
>>
>>492039936
Never done racing games, but had to deal with similar situations with a basketball lol(in regards to checking if it got physically stuck, or caught in some kind of collisions loop, etc). You basically need to find every scenario that would cause the car to be in an immobile or barely moving state, and find a way to run checks through those first(i.e. car hit a barrier, got knocked into wall etc.). If one of those conditions is met, If those checks are cleared, then you can set conditions for resetting the car via whatever method you want or something like >>492040297. It's probably going to be tough and take a lot of experimentation to get it working right and to figure out how to detect when the care could potentially get stuck, but you'll get there. Just be creative with what you have; raycasts, speedchecks, timers, etc.

Story in games are meant to be the thing that helps with the game theme, mechanics, character design, level design.

Shouldn't be a core goal in itself, but more a support tool to the rest of the game.

Developing around the story helps with things like designing the levels the player will find.

i got the car stuck reset thing working as a prototype anons. it doesn't mesh well with the ai navigation nodes i got setup, but that's easily fixable. thanks everyone.
>>
>>492044917
No to all of the above. Though I try to make it modular so I can reuse a lot.

The more I try and make my own game, the more I realise I'm only really interested in the design and writing portions of creating. It's not a strictly gamedev question so it might not be the best place to ask, but how would I go about expanding on that? Design seems easy in the sense that you can post a bunch of stuff on social media, but writing seems way harder to actually break into. If only just because it's scrutinized way more now
