Then it cuts to her in middle school at 12 years old where she gets graded poorly as E, and her poor performance lasts her entire middle school years.Now she's in high school and overworking herself at various part time jobs. She's able to make 105000 yen a month this way, and tuition at Hatsuboshi costs 890000 yen a year. She is invited to perform onstage at her shopping district's event (for no pay), and we can see that her poor school performance has ruined her self-esteem, but the shopping district's encouragement of her as their idol and calling her cute motivates her to accept.The event itself is empty with only a sparse crowd, but appreciating how much money and effort they put into making the stage regardless, Kotone performs 765Pro's READY (a super famous song that everyone knows) her body moving unconsciously, her talent showing through and drawing the attention of the few people there (and the imaginary huge crowd she envisioned). She laments not being able to become an idol like she wanted and basically being a failure the last 3 years and cries.

I hope they keep this conversation with Temari in a future anime.
