>MATHAnyone here is a big brain math nerd? I'm stuck with Matrix, more exactly with *Inverse* Matrix. The problem is that for some graphic API, I need to send those Matrix in a 4x3 format (removing the values that are always 0 for a regular Translation/Rotation/Scaling) and none of the engine usual math libraries handle it.I managed to find on the net how to calculate the TRS matrix "manually", but searching for *Inverse* Matrix only return raw maths that are way beyond my brain capacity - and no actual game-ready-ish pseudo-code.I was hoping that just calculating a regular TRS matrix but with Translation/Rotation/Scaling inverted would do the trick and give the Inverse Matrix, but apparently not because I get fucked up results.
So what's the meta, should I have a separate Steam page for my demo or not? Any point to put one up if my demo is already out?

>>498388812Switching to Unreal would mean starting from scratch for the studio, but given their size, it's more practical and cost-effective in the long run. A rework involves removing legacy functions and could introduce spaghetti code due to interdependencies, while starting fresh avoids these issues by allowing features to be added incrementally. Both approaches have strengths and weaknesses, but either way, it would take years to see results from a new engine or incremental changes from a rework. The engine has been in use since Morrowind, and each new iteration has been more of an upgrade or partial rework, reaching its limit, as evidenced by Starfield's shortcomings. Unreal continually modernizes and removes legacy components, unlike Unity, which struggles with legacy issues despite promises to streamline. My experience with Unity highlights these challenges, whereas Unreal, despite some issues, remains user-friendly and consistent over time.I believe starting anew is necessary due to long-standing developers resisting change due to familiarity. This problem is prevalent in the industry, where superficial changes are made without addressing core issues. Although some argue it's expensive, the cost of not innovating is evident in Starfield's underperformance. Companies like CD Projekt Red have opted for Unreal, recognizing the limitations of their in-house engines. Ultimately, it's a tough decision, but they are a large company capable of making significant changes.
>>498388812>I need to send those Matrix in a 4x3 format (removing the values that are always 0 for a regular Translation/Rotation/Scaling)So what hinders you from manually "removing" these values?

>>498388812The last values aren't always 0, just for the rotation/scale part, the 1 indicates that it's a translation, which is just the XYZ pasted in.Depending on your handedness (what the engine expects) you might have to transpose the matrix too, which is just flipping it across it's diagonal. Here's a function that calculates the inverse, you can check the determinant whether it's actually inversible (fabs(det) < EPSILON)https://pastebin.com/NDaBYTeq

C# support is an afterthought. do not touch. IF you use godot, you must use gdscript because that's the only thing the people who run the show care about. also you have to use Jolt physics because the default physics suck, and Jolt is basically undocumented. total jank. so yeah, I'm sticking with Unity for another couple years at this rate.

>>498390180Unreal 5 has cutting-edge technology; all the big players are using it now, from Lumen's AAA lights to the incredible power of Nanite, which allows incredibly detailed meshes with very little performance impact. This is not just an engine; it’s an experience – a revolution in digital creation. Imagine crafting worlds where every pixel sings with realism, every shadow dances in perfect harmony, and every texture tells a story as vivid as reality itself. Lumen's dynamic global illumination transforms each scene into a masterpiece of light and shadow, bringing unparalleled depth and emotion to every frame.Nanite, on the other hand, is the magic wand we've all been waiting for – it redefines what's possible by enabling billions of polygons to flow seamlessly, creating environments so detailed you can almost feel the textures. With Nanite, the boundary between the virtual and the real blurs, unleashing a level of creativity previously constrained by hardware limitations. The ease of use, combined with the sheer power of Unreal Engine 5, makes it not just a tool but a portal to the future where your imagination is the only limit. That's why I chose it.

Same with Va11Halla but I always assumed that was intentional to fit the "cyberpunk dystopian" aesthetic but now I notice they're the exact same fonts.

Would you advise me (a retard) to learn and use Vulkan over OpenGL?
Went broke cause I'm woke
>>498391968>[ambient light is the same everywhere]I don't use godot but what you're looking for will be some kind of GI solution like the voxel or SDF GI. I tried godot and didn't like these systems. the SDF one in particular has visible cascades, as in, you move around the world and see seams where the lighting goes from a higher to a lower LOD. it's bad. and the voxel stuff needs baking which wasn't an option for my project so I didn't look too deeply into that. I just remember seeing it having issues with reflections.tldr: look at the voxel GI solution first, but know it has some issues like everything else in godot.

Yes and no.Roguelikes are fun and the games that do them well are fantastic and very addicting. Especially when they incorporate other elements and mechanics into death instead of just "hah, you died, do everything else again".The problem, however, is that PLENTY of indie devs have found this to be an easy route to make a game with their own ideas. Incorporating gimmicks as a selling point to "stand out" from the rest. This has gone to the point where every fucking month or so there seems to be a new indie title with rogelike/lite mechanics that either get released or announced and it just oversaturates the indie scene so much. "What's that? A sidescroller/isometric platformer? Pixel art graphics? Roguelike? ~20 bucks? Fucking sold!!!"Especially when you consider the fact that not every indie dev company can pull this off. So not only do we have a market filled to the brim with roguelike/lite titles, but there's a high chance that the vast majority of them are ass with trashy mechanics, janky gameplay, deeply unsatisfying progression, bad level design, mediocre art direction and lack of content. This leaves only a select few to be note worthy. It's like when battle royales became popular. It was the new hit thing with an easy to recreate formula where the only thing devs realistically had to do was change things JUST ENOUGH so they can claim to be different from the rest.

Progress post. I just semi-virtualised my scrollview so I can have hundreds of items in the list instead of having to flick through pages like most anons do.I check which items are not in view of the viewport of my scrollview and I just deactive all the pictures/text/etc leaving just an empty box that keeps he scrollbar at the same size because deactivating the items completely caused the scrollbar to shrink. Now it just reactivates those elements when the item scrolls in to view.Pretty neat huh?

when making a game, you need to nail things down in this order1. mechanics. it's what your game is.2. art direction. it will help market your game like nothing else3. what it's supposed to run on, PC, consoles, handhelds, etc.4. scope. you need to know how much time you can devote to it and which things you'll have to cut5. lore and story. if applicable.and that's it. you can get cheap music from pond5 or free from incompetech. you can make a capsule in a couple of hours, the trailer in a couple of days. good luck!

We simply need someone that actually read books, to craft fantasy versions of fascism, liberal democrats and commies.Pretty sure Roman empire could be easily reimagined as Modern Fascists, since their symbology is similar and roman empire was something nazis admired.Maybe add a sparkle of Spartans.Liberal democrats could be easily done with greeks and athens city states.Add a bit of revolutionary french and americans, and you get them.Commies are a bit more dificult to track down without making it super obvious.Pretty sure it has to be inspired by some asian or african empire.
>what if rome and greece but it's fantasy?!
>>498419157I suppose. I steal a lot of shit from dark souls. the fire hand thing you see in the beginning is essentially the pyromancy flame from dark souls and I have it set to cast basic fireballs for now. planning to add more spells later.as for the crabclaw scythe (that's what I'm calling it for now), I remember in dark souls 3 there's these giant crabs that can pick you up and throw you around so I'm adding that but instead I pick up enemies and throw them at other enemies for damage and knockback. yesterday I showed a scythe I can throw that spins, deals damage and returns to my hand. yoinked that from darksiders 2 aswell...I think at this point any game mechanic anyone can think of is very likely to have been done already by someone else even if you don't intend to copy it.

>>498428193NTA but not really. Modern liberalism emerged from English common law. That does have some Greco-Roman influences since the main way to get an education for a thousand years in the west was to learn Latin. Then when you learn Latin you would read the great Roman orators like Cicero, who was also responsible for translating a lot of Greek philosophy. But no Plato's Republic is a retarded political fan fiction and you probably haven't read it if you think our current political structures resemble it, since we don't have philosopher kings. The only philosopher king to exist was Marcus Aurelius and he was a beta getting cucked by a gladiator while coping and seething about it. The foundation of our current political paradigm is English liberalism codified by the likes of Hobbes and Locke, and unfortunately also French liberalism with idiots such as Rousseau. If you ever wonder why the leftoids always side with criminals like George Floyd and seem to think that they're victims of society rather than being responsible for their own actions, they're following his philosophy. Truly the French always were a blight on the Earth and I should make a game about eradicating them.

>>498431314The English had just lost the colonies in the American revolution and feared their own monarchy would be next, so no I don't think the English were friends of revolutionary France. Also it's worth noting that in the 1500s, long before the revolution, the French once tried to prosecute rats in court for eating crops. The rat lawyer (a human albeit french) said that the rats couldn't come to court to face trial due to there being too many cats thus making them fear for their lives. The rats were acquitted. So the French were already retarded and insane and so their retarded and insane philosophies can't entirely be laid at the feet of the eternal Anglo.
