Done fixing a bug that caused the game to crash when you clicked the message box too fast. It's crazy when you stop and think about it: after fixing a game-breaking bug, you will NEVER have to worry about it again. How neat is that?More importantly, I finished writing all six introduction cutscenes to the game. Different ones play depending on your starting location, introducing different characters and different parts of the lore. Now, I'm not sure if I can get the first main quest done as I had planned (for some reason, I thought DD59 was two weeks away, not one)... but I'll try. If Factorio: Space Age lets me.

In my game, the 3D Main menu is a star sanctum and other stars do try to contact you.You can walk around the 3D Main Menu, it is inspired by Dr. Muto's home. You'll get messages from other stars, trying to ask for permission to be let into your 3D Main Menu / Star Sanctum.Your Guide will advise you to ignore the messages and not to wander too far into the depths of the sanctum. Just looking at it, it had so much I want to do in one of my ideas. In fact it was the idea I was toying with first while trying out engines. Only really tested it in one. My art was atrocious. It's a small niche but one problem is that almost every single game there has one major advantage over me. (1) first movers advantage, (2) extremely high quality, (3) capitzalized off the niche even with meh art and gameplay, (4) free + decent quality.

>>499868541The gameplay format wasn't outstanding. It was fine and served to give the game a unique identity but otherwise the game was carried by other elements such as the voice acting and having a unique artstyle. >>499869175That really wasn't the bottleneck. The VRoid placeholders were fine, and I was willing to shell out to pay for artists if need be. >>499871038https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYBrZCsjRKgThere was just a demoralizing mountain of systems and tooling that still needed to be built. (Godot's skeleton system got another overhaul between 4.2 and 4.3, and we right between those two.) In the far future your character commits suicide and then is taken to a beautiful afterlife, only to be reawoken a few thousand years later by future humankind. They are going around using stem cells to revive long dead humans by regrowing their brains and placing them in robot bodies. They are doing this out of pure love and helpfulness as they have world peace and live forever after becoming a type 2 civilization. They do not believe in an afterlife, but your character has been spending the last few thousand years in total bliss. Your goal of the game? Probably the more toned neck gives it that feeling.Bottom right seems like a more messy person in general. That little pony tail makes me think like they have tied that on Monday, and haven't touched it since. Left one in turn just had a bad hairday, or walked through wind and got a little messed up. The only issue that arises, after further testing, is that they slide off the platform only when said platform is moving upwards + horizontally. It's actually very close to their personalities.Canonically, the top one has fluffy white eyelashes like Ramlethal https://litter.catbox.moe/49bnmb.jpgHowever I "feel" like it doesn't look that good in pixel art/at the low resolution I'm drawing. So I was torn between keeping simplified black eyelashes that look better, or canonical ones that reflect the original intention of the character at the risk of looking worse. So I wanted to check if other people also think it looks worse or it was just me.Bottom one is messy and tired yeah, the ponytail will be in the final design either way, but I was torn between keeping the more anatomical correct placement of the mouth on the right, or the more droopy looking but obviously "wronger" expression on the left.
>>499878963My demo is just a Tween. One guess is that you are unnecessarily setting CharacterBody3D.velocity to something with a non-zero y component every frame, which is causing it to constantly leave and reenter the floor.

>>499879307You set traps, cursed items and monster encounters on a grid to keep adventurers from reaching the end of the dungeon. It was supposed to be a short 6 month project just to see the process of finishing something and putting out on Steam, nothing complicated, but I'm already on month 10.
>>499876083something that's worth remembering is that unless the characters are always at a fixed resolution, having thicker lines protects it against antialiasing. The black lines under the bust of the top-right character are thicker than the character's outline which doesn't seem good.I might've expected her skirt to also have some crease lines, likely vertically over the indent where her groin is, since right now it looks like it's glued there. If you don't want to make lines thinner, you can color some of the inner lines in a darker-than-shadow color. You already did that on the top-left and it may be good, but the top-left has the problem that the shirt is just too light and attracts too much attention compared to the face and everything else.Yeah, I'm thinking about it and top-right is better than top-left in terms of lines/design but the reason top-left might look better is because the blue colors are more pleasant. Maybe give the top-right's shirt a slight blue tint and try to keep the shadows consistently both darker and more saturated without hue-shifting it towards blue so much. Basically, color theory likes it when you move 2, maybe 1 axis (darkness, saturation, hue) but moving 3 at once looks less pleasant, and you've doing a lot of 3 axis shiftsyeah I have no idea if I'm even right or how to teach that so uhhhh good luck
>>499879549>It was supposed to be a short 6 month project just to see the process of finishing somethingYou have>dialogue art>a grid map for combat with its own UI>an isometric management screen with god knows how much UIThat's 3 different projects worth of game and that's assuming there isn't even more shit you aren't showing like a menu. >>499879231No problem man, this is what we're supposedly here for. Are there any good tools for development that are new? I have to imagine there's tools that make use of AI for world building and/or task management or anything else game dev wise. Want to be able to give it a bit of info and fill shit out. Not just generative world building stuff (which I will replace later, but getting AI placeholders is great) but also task management. I should be able to tell the AI what I want to accomplish and it makes tasks for meI'm sure this exists. But if not maybe I should make that instead. But I'm sure there's thousands
I was going to respond but then you mentioned **.
>>499893584I have no interest in any tool that doesn't use it so that's fine with me. I am well aware of countless plebian tools that require manual effort that takes up more time than actual game dev. Keep living in the past, grandpa.

>>499893450Yes AI with your own edits is the most optimal way to gamedev nowadays, everyone is using chatgpt or Claude over google/stackoverflow for programming. Just don't use IDE plugins and don't expect it to cook a perfect solution eveye time.

I should make this myself. Like what Co-Pilot wants to do but for game-dev, AI game dev partnerIt can already teach you how to dev naturally so I could even shill this to regular peopleI should just make this instead of a game

>>499897556It's essentially the same trade off. You're more likely to get attention making porn games just like you're more likely to get attention making porn drawings. To a moral purist fag like me, this makes you a lesser, a hack, someone who didn't want to find a way to make their product good enough in its own right that they needed the dopamine center of porn to do all the heavy lifting for them. Porn game devs are creatively bankrupt and will never be true game devs, and I get to be the arbiter of that definition. I won't be taking any questions.

Speaking of steam rules, are there any rules against smoking, selling drugs, prostitution? I'd think not since GTA is allowed. But who knows, for some reason games are heavily censored compared to other art.
>>499897298thanks man I think i obviously need to add something that immediately jumps out as different. it does have some things that might set it apart but they're not easy to show. you can hire cats to fight as army with you through levels, theres some puzzles and the multiplayer works too but only offline (couch co-op) so far.oh it has story and characters too some who give you quests like delivering something from one area to another, kind of like a 2d yakuza game.not the best screenshot but it shows some cats fighting on your side
>>499897359No. Very good, engaging indie games that appeal to a wide demographic will make more money than porn games, especially if you also add mtx and get it on consoles and mobile stores. With porn games, you have to rely on Patreon whales for money. Although, you can add good porn to a mediocre game and it will do much better.

>>499898449Not per say, but I've seen a lot of games give disclaimers/mature content warnings in their description. "This game contains mature content such as drugs etc. etc."
>>499897359I dunno, horrorslop sells as well. There are other markets you can aim for. Porn just requires you to do less market research because people will always want more of it and there's a lack of supply due to people being too ashamed to do it and bigger studios not wanting to tackle it. Not to mention some people might not have the sex drive to do it for very long, I wonder if that's what happened to yokcos.I'd say there's less potential to go big though. You can't go viral because you can't even get your content on youtube or tiktok or anything, so your dreams of becoming the next Scott FNAF is zero. Horrorslop has a much fatter chance of getting picked up by content farmers and leads better into merchandise or other nonsense. If you want to learn art, porn is a good place to start because people will accept it even if it's kinda trash. Just beware you might get caught in porn forever if you don't want to betray the audience you make.

Why do I need to obtain an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)?>A. Generally, a foreign person is subject to U.S. tax on its U.S. source income. Most types of U.S. source income received by a foreign person are subject to a U.S. tax rate of 30%. A reduced rate, including exemption, may apply if there is a tax treaty between the foreign person's country of residence and the United States. In order to exercise the benefits under the tax treaty, you will need to complete a Form W-8BEN and that requires either a foreign TIN or a US TIN. Countries that have tax treaties with the U.S. can be found here:Do yuros in the thread with a Steam page have this? Valve says it takes several months for them to be issued, is that true? >>499907550Do this> Think of feature and implement it myself through Google and researchingYou can still look at tutorials if you think it will teach you something concrete and specific that you need for the feature you're working on at the moment. For example, how to make a water shader. But if you spend more than 20-30 minutes watching tutorials instead of actually doing something, you're probably back into tutorial hell and you need to get out immediately
>>499907707At least you haven't been stuck with this overscoped project in mind that made you spend years of learning shit all that for not being able to dev since the project is too big. Kek what a fucking nightmare I got myself into.

>>499908798go ahead, at least i know that others have a worthless life too..
>>499908315Thanks. But can I be spoonfed fag for a second? How do I stop myself from ending up looking at a tutorial in the end? Let's say I want to make strafing movements (which I do). Well, after setting up the inputs and condition to trigger the strafe (let's say a simple button press), I'll google "how to make straffing movement" and I'll only find videos and tuts. How do I have to proceed to not get back in this tutorial hell (I'm actually in that shit and it's been a long time now).In short: How do I become a real DEVELOPER. There's no tutorial about that (unironically)
my life is pretty great.my game, however, is not.that's okay because this is just a hobby
>ask any programming people on how to do something>*scolds you for four paragraphs for not adhering to their quasi merit-based work ethics and then dumps two compsci textbooks on you*>ask ai-sensei on how to do something>gives me the exact method I need for copypasting without any moralizingThanks AI-sensei!
its gonna be hard to top Alice as a designshe's basically universal and not in a disney princess way
>>499908798
>>499909287Tutorials are great for the beginning. If you've never animated anything, you should be following along, taking notes, trying to understand the fundamentals of what's going on. Then you should try doing something similar without the tutorial. Do that for 3-5 tutorials and you should have the basics to start doing things on your own. But it's really important that you're trying to learn and understand the concepts, not just using the tutorial as a hand-holding guide on getting the thing you need without really letting the info soak in. That's how you end up like tutorial hell people who've made 30+ scripts and still don't understand when to use a for loop without someone explicitly telling them
I hope my next player (estimated time: 3 weeks) enjoys the patch I'm doing right now!

>>499909287Use chatgpt. Eventually it'll annoy you. Also tutorials are too much fucking work. A lot of those guys are retarded and make all kinds of extra code that for sure doesn't apply to your game. Chat will help you for a long time, but it'll also force you to think because it fucks up all the time.
>>499908798Way ahead of you... >>499908135
>>499909287Ideally, after a while you'd get to a level where you'd be able to build the features that you want by composing pieces that you already figured out. For example, if you've already learned how to move objects, you don't need a tutorial for strafe movement, because that's just moving an object laterally. Also, instead of watching a 20 minute tutorial that's designed to waste your time, you can try using the official documentation, or ask chatgpt for some tips (but don't be the guy that copies code from chatgpt without understanding it). This would be good for something like "how does pathfinding work in Unreal". You just want to get an overview of what the fundamentals are, then once you know them, you do it on your own.

Let's do math. This model takes 4-5 hours to be finished and have 1 animation. At 2 usd (my country wages) this means it cost basically 10 usd to make.A 32x32 pixel art takes me 10 minutes to make.So it boils down to 40 cents more or less to me.After 25 sprites, the price is the same.Making a new character would usually require a new texture, which would be 1 hour of work.If we assume 8 directions walk cycle and idle cycle, at 4 frames each one. Then is 8 * 4 frames being 32 sprites. Therefore my styles is even cheaper than 32x32 pixel art.

>>499917807i wouldnt say it is inherently bad, but i would always reverse the perceived difficulty. instead of punishing bad players you should rather reward good players and shift the general difficulty of the game. as an example i would use dead cells, each floor has the speed and no damage reward. the player is indirectly punished by not completing these tasks, but in the beginning of the game it is presented as something that "good" players will get. the early levels are also easily winnable without those rewards too. which makes in total for a better learning curve as well as added difficulty without insulting the player unnecessary. although it depends on the playerbase, this approach is def more normie friendly, but some communities like to be spit in the face like caves of chud

>>499924326Love this mockup.Story based games are extremely difficult to make. You need to make so much story content for the game to have any playtime and most people will just skip it.If you're into blobbers it's probably better to make a traditional blobber with some light story elements. Handcrafting all those dungeon floors for a blobber is still viable and you can spread out the story throughout the dungeon. It should be decently easy to pad out the playtime with combat in a blobber.Overall try to keep it short and small scoped with simple mechanics or you will never finish anything. You need to make so much story content for the game to have any playtime and most people will just skip it.>Overall try to keep it short and small scoped with simple mechanics or you will never finish anythingI didn't want to invoke this game's name because it usually derails conversation, but ideally I'd like to make something like Undertale where's there's at least two clearly defined story paths (ie. peaceful and genocide in that game) that have dramatically different ways of interacting with the game's limited content. That way players have a reason to replay the game and see the content they otherwise missed, at least in theory.>>499928058My weeb friend recommended it to me because he said it reminded him of my drawings. It's barely playable in English, I think it was translated using Google translate.
>>499929246Things are truly bad when you wish a general had more tripfags so you could filter them. But yeah I have to agree, I wish he and many others would use them.

>>499928154CG Axis. they're supposed to be paid but you can just download the textures straight from the site. they're all at least 1200x1200. I just take the diffuse / emission and the ambient occlusion image, then combine as two layers in photoshop (set to Multiply on the AO), merge layers and wa lathey have a lot of good stuff since a lot of them aren't fully realistic, ie there's textures for shit like zombie skin, guts, scales etc, compared to something like ambientCG which is more basic stuff like wood, rocks etc https://cgaxis.com/if you're on chrome and don't already have Internet Download Manager just use one of these extensions to turn .webp files into .pngshttps://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/save-image-as-type/gabfmnliflodkdafenbcpjdlppllnemd?pli=1https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/image-downloader-imageye/agionbommeaifngbhincahgmoflcikhm

>>499930054For the future I'd reccomend you turn your trip off when you make the thread because it can trigger meltdowns and derail everything from the beginning.
>>499928058Apparently they have a machine translation and the proper English translation is being worked on.>>499929393I haven't played Undertale so I can't comment on that.If you have a good idea on how to differentiate the gameplay then you could try it. I don't think blobbers have done much on that front. I haven't played them that much but the ones I have are pretty much just dungeon crawling and killing with maybe some light story elements. Maybe the (2) approach would work better on what you have in mind. When in doubt you gotta prototype but prototyping story related gameplay is uhh... difficult.
>>499929994I have never replied to Alicefag and I try to avoid the others that I recognize. There's simply too many of them.
