This is around 54% of TI 2021, meaning it's entirely acceptable to say 2024 lost half of the viewership as a simple shorthand. 4% don't matter much in the face of a whopping 46% drop.

>can you list some of these technical issues and complaints with production you have?

Here you go.

>After missing 2020 due to Covid and 2021’s event being without a crowd, the Dota 2 community was set for TI to return to its glory days. But so far things have not been going well.

>Broadcasts for both the qualifiers and Last Chance Qualifier have all been done remotely, and featured a variety of technical issues. Many games were also not made available to stream directly in-game, forcing people to the official stream. PGL has also been criticised for not having the main broadcast panel and hosts on site in Singapore, instead choosing a remote broadcast from Norway, and many fans have also been angered by the introduction of a betting sponsor.

>As you might expect, Dota 2 fans have not been impressed by any of this, with many voicing their displeasure on community hubs such as the Dota 2 Subreddit, including some well known Dota personalities. But now PGL is fighting back, by adding a new stipulation to the co-streaming rules that says you can’t say anything negative about them or the tournament so far if you want to broadcast the event.

ok that was one ti in 2022, what has happened since then in terms of production?

And as for calling ME of all people a shill, here's some perspective:

>one guy says that Dota can reach enormous heights and be played on literal football stadiums in front of 50k crowds. He says Dota was on the way to being able to do this any time anyway BEFORE BEING INTENTIONALLY AND OPENLY SABOTAGED BY VALVE, a company that directly said it can't handle shipping some skins (the core of the battle pass) and doing in game events/updates at the same time.

https://sg.news.yahoo.com/dota-2-to-move-away-from-battle-pass-release-ti-themed-update-in-september-061848620.html

>other posters say: "it's OK when Valve does "a" even if it hurts Dota. It's OK when Valve does "b" even if it hurts Dota... It's OK when Valve does "x" even if it hurts Dota. Those aren't delays you're seeing, they are EXTENSIONS"

I already described everything in the previous thread.

>no prize pool, no opening ceremony, few main stage games, the UNIVERSALLY hated "road to TI" rebranding attempt meant to cover up the destruction of the event, no true sight

For comparison, TI 2017 had seven main stage games, compared three in 2024.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VgTwaEmDazs

And Gabe still appears and says: "Welcome to TI, the absolute pinnacle of esports", despite it now being merely one of dozens of two million dollar tournaments across a vast array of esports. What does it have left back from the time it was actually the pinnacle? Only the name and the aegis.

all that money for production and they still fucked up
this makes your argument that valve intentionally hurt ti even worse

you continue to ignore my points about the lack of interest in the player base of dota2 during the lead up of ti10 despite all the spectacle of the massive prize pool

Kek, ok. I'm not going to reply to you anymore.

But for other readers: TI of 2024 can only be compared to TI of 2021, since the absolute core of the playerbase is in Europe and hence a TI hosted in Europe will naturally have far larger viewership. Regional player breakdown is here:

https://stratz.com/matches/graphs

But despite being a European TI, TI of 2024 did catastrophically bad and the next TI (probably hosted outside Europe and with a yet another 2 million dollar prize pool, if nothing changes) will very likely do MUCH worse.

>>
>>499900985
I'm literally informing Dota players about the dangers of Deadlock's existence.

By the way: it's quite one ironic that a guy called "Uncle Dane" who leaked Deadlock ahead of time and presented it in a negative way could end up being an indirect savior of Dota. He's from the TF2 community, which faced Valve's destructively mercurial nature a long time ago. Whether it was due to his actions or not (probably the former), Valve has actually taken major steps aimed at developing TF2.
>>

I never played TF2, but everyone in its community said the game's official servers were unplayable due to bots for many many years. Around July Valve has taken a host of actions aimed at removing them. Many speculate this was done to quell the anger and contempt of TF2 players who started cursing Deadlock immediate since it appeared in public view.

The only thing I know for real is that Valve hardly cares about dota anymore and its full focused on Deadlock because they need a new cashcow.
It wouldn't mind if the game was left in an actual playable state instead of the sad pathetic state it currently is.
don't care about hats or events, just give me actual performance, working replays, a way to properly watch games from the client, and some half decent balance without stupid bloat gimmicks like facets.

What does oracles q purge? Disarms, even my w disarm? Burn? Venos poison? Venoms poison? Ogera w burn? Nullifier? Husakes burns? Clinks burn? Bristlwback goo? Diffusal slow? Stuns? All of the above?

it's a basic dispel, iirc
as opposed to Abadon's W which is a strong dispel
so like if someone is stunned from Beastmaster's Primal Roar, then Oracle's Q isn't going to dispel the stun, but Abadon's W would dispel it, since it's a strong dispel
there are some things that can only be dispelled with basic dispels, some things that can only be dispelled with strong dispels, and iirc some things can't be dispelled at all
best advice i can give is just look at the wiki and mess around in demo mode and read all the descriptions, they say on abilities whether things can be dispelled or not by basic or strong dispels
>>
>>500005719
Dispel is one of the most complicated mechanics in the game due to exceptions. However what is easy to learn is that Oracle's dispel is a standard one (not strong) and hence can't remove stuns. There are only a handful of strong dispels in the game.

For the complicated part, here's an example: nothing in the game can remove heaven's halberd disarm, but all dispels can remove orchid silence (even though they are both item based debuffs).

Check out dispel notes below the ability here:
https://liquipedia.net/dota2/Heaven%27s_Halberd
https://liquipedia.net/dota2/Orchid_Malevolence

One says only "dispelled by death" and the other "dispelled by any".
>>
>>500006423
>if someone is stunned from Beastmaster's Primal Roar, then Oracle's Q isn't going to dispel the stun, but Abadon's W would dispel it, since it's a strong dispel

Since it's Oracle we're talking about here, it's also worth mentioning that his ult also dispels and is actually a strong one. So Oracle can save someone from a roar as well.

I'm trying to learn hero match ups, counters and synergies better. My position 1 hero pool is currently

What heroes do I not gave an answer for with my hero pool? What supports synergies well with my heroes? Is there any team role my hero pool is lacking? And if I were to pick up another main, what should I look for?

I think you'd enjoy diablo 3 a lot
>>
>>500011850
>What heroes do I not gave an answer for with my hero pool?

All of your carries are illusion users. This makes them pretty flexible, but a Lion who knows what he's doing can quickly clear them out with shard mana drain.

>Is there any team role my hero pool is lacking

All of your picks are greedy hard carries. You could look into having at least one early semi-carry, like Monkey King, Razor or Dragon Knight.
>>
>>500012136
>strawman argument
>>
>>500011850
You've got Anti-mage, which is like a late game split pusher hero
you've got Naga Siren which is an illusion split push hero
you've got Spectre which is a late game ganking sort of hero
i don't think you really have anything that is a strong laner or mid game hero. like Spectre is kind of a weak laner and she doesn't exactly dominate the mid game, she kind of just ults in and steals kills then goes back to farming. Antimage just kinda focuses on getting a couple items and then dominating the late game
some strong laner carries that dominate the mid game would be like Shadow Fiend, Chaos Knight, Razor, Clinkz
like what this guy said: >>500012157
basically heroes that win lane, farm 1 item and fight with the team, like with Clinkz for example, you win lane, farm the Desolator, then run around invis with your team and kill enemies and melt towers
especially now is important to have something like that to be good with because i think the meta right now is winning lane, then brooling with the team, but desu i think that doesn't matter if youre below Immortal rank or around there
>>
>>500012157
>All of your picks are greedy hard carries
That's what I had been thinking, but I've had trouble identifying which carries aren't as greedy, and then find one I actually like.
>>
>>500012661
Also, How would I know I need to pick a carry that can win lane and fight early? Like what kind of line up (enemy heroes or team mate heroes) should I identify and think "ok this isn't an Am/spectre/Naga game"?
>>
>>500012898
This is extremely reliant on game sense. But it general, if you see that your team went for a "wacky" pick (no durable hero on the offlane, questionable mid, non support focused supports, etc) it may be better to pick an earlier carry, since you simply might not make it to late game with an unorthodox team.
>>
>>500013127
To add: if you look at the pick and that "all is lost" you may want to have a backup super tempo carry to try and salvage the pick. Look into Brood 1 as an example.

https://dota2protracker.com/hero/broodmother
>>
>>500012898
if you got last pick and you think your teammates can make space enough for you against the enemy draft, then pick AM.
if you got last pick and you think your teammates will be really active in the mid game and ganking a lot, i'd say it probably is a good Spectre game, basically any game where it looks like you'd be able to just ult in and finish off some kills
I'm not sure about Naga desu, idk that hero too well, i just know she can leave lane early if she wants and she can split push pretty well
imo, if you can't get last pick, then you should pick an early/mid game hero that wins lane. i think in general, it's never a bad choice to pick an early/mid game lane dominator

>>

check out this BSJ coaching video, i always thought he explains hero pools and drafting pretty well in this video
https://youtu.be/1sIKfpaVZGM?si=B9ONQl8G2Mf5-W3Q&t=527
>>
>>500014205
Of course. Dota doesn't have a superiority of either melee or ranged carries, it all depends on the meta.

Since AM, Spectre and Naga are all melee, you can try to balance them out with pure range too, such as Drow, Sniper and Weaver. The first two are positioning based turrets, while the latter is an unusually agile position 1.
>>
>>500014343
Thanks I'll watch that video. BSJ has some great info in his coaching sessions, but there's no way to know which sessions have info on which aspects of the game.

>>500014375
Yeah for a ranged hero I was thinking drow or even a right clicking invoker (since he can also brawl during the early/mid game). Lunas great but she really don't feel "ranged".
>>
>>500015325
One of the keys to playing Drow is NEVER forgetting to escape with hurricane pike; either via a dual push of both you and the enemy or simple force staff-like repositioning.
>>
>>500014205
yeah you want at least 1 ranged carry
i think draft is really important though if you pick a squishy ranged hero like Drow or Sniper or something, like you need your other cores to be like tanky strength melee heroes a lot of the time
Medusa, Drow, and Sniper are like strong laners, but Medusa wants like a Manta, Butterfly, and one more item before she just wins the game, whereas Drow mainly just wants like a Dragon Lance and a Yasha or something before joining fights. they all have different timings i think but usually they're strong at laning and can scale pretty decently
>>
>TEN fucking percent spell amp
>at level 10
>on a hero with magic damage on EVERY spell
what the FUCK were they thinking
>>
>>500015478
Remembering hurricane pike and playing around it will be something I'll have to get used to.

>>500015502
>like you need your other cores to be like tanky strength melee heroes a lot of the time

one day valve started a country and it was great
lots of people moved there despite the stipulation that you had to have a pet
then valve decided that every year one pet at random would be killed unless the community paid them enough money to spare its life for their contribution the citizens received household goods
year after year this went on, with valve receiving enough money to spare the poor pet's life and the community enjoying their household goods
then suddenly valve decided that they had enough with the farce and changed the year event
instead of paying to receive both the household goods and spare the pet's life valve would allow the community to contribute to two separate funds
contributions to one fund gave the household goods in exchange
the other fund spared the random pet's life
the community happily gave their money in exchange for the household goods but not enough money to spare the pet's life
valve then killed the pet
this is where we are now in dota2

Difficult to say. Here are some clues:

Early TI 2024 was already unpopular

The overall loss of viewership was 46%

They don't explain the TOTAL collapse of the English stream. By the way, both finals and two semifinals of 2021 were full of Russians and Chinese and Europeans (the core of the Dota playerbase https://stratz.com/matches/graphs) still watched them far more than the European/NA teams of 2024.

yes, people care more when their teams of their region do well
that would inflate ti2021's viewership compared to ti2024
if ti gets another chinese/russian final viewership could return to ti2021's height

>yes, people care more when their teams of their region do well
>that would inflate ti2021's viewership compared to ti2024

Complete non sequitur. I just showed you that Europeans/North Americans watched Russians/Chinese on the English stream far more than they watched their own teams in 2024 (due to a ruined TI).

I'm not going to handpick the links from the one I already provided, which easily shows both 2021 and 2024. Especially so considering you're probably the poster consistently getting disproven but asking for ever more detailed posts anyway.
>>
>>500033840
you didnt post any english stream numbers
na didnt have a team in the finals
quinn is one player
it was two eu teams facing off and russians may have watch but the chinese didnt care
it is relevant to the discussion
>Especially so considering you're probably the poster consistently getting disproven but asking for ever more detailed posts anyway
all our exchanges end with you suggesting ti will die eventually and that i am a shill cause you must ignore my arguments to stay delusional
>>
>>500034371
gg also had a russian member which would appeal to russians
>>
>>500034371
>russians may have watch but the chinese didnt care

Another complete non sequitur. Russians watched on their own streams, I'm exclusively talking about the English stream of TI in my last post. And it turned out that English language viewers watched Russians and Chinese far more readily than they watched their own teams in 2024.

Semi-last day 2024: chock full of EU teams.

English stream only, Russians and Chinese have their own platforms. This TI was so ruined that English speaking people didn't even have a breakeven in viewership even though they were watching their own teams. Instead viewership collapsed.
>>
>>500036664
>Another complete non sequitur.
not when you consider the overall average viewers
>I'm exclusively talking about the English stream of TI in my last post
yes you've reduced to claim that ti is only dead with english viewers

the drop was less than average viewers from ti2021 to ti2024

>40 gorillian dollar prize pool and not even 500k english viewers

>>
>>500037020
>yes you've reduced to claim that ti is only dead with english viewers

Third non sequitur. If Russians aren't watching due to being out of the competition, Europeans should be watching more due to being IN IT. But they didn't, they watched Russians and Chinese far more readily in 2021, since it was a real TI and not a remnant of an event destroyed by Valve.

>TI 2024 had merely 3 stage play days, compared to seven in 2017.
ok, you told me you didnt want to compare viewership of ti2024 to ti2017

They get a salary and to keep a portion of their prize winnings while other professions like a realtor or car salesman only gets the commission from sales meanwhile e-sports is an unprofitable venture that is only propped up because of the Saudis

Dyracho gave Ace and Quinn space when he made moves that sometimes led to him dying while Watson is the 10-year-old outdated RTZ style farm in jungle for 40 minutes while your team 4v5s and hope you can win the game after you lose a lane of rax or two or three
>>
>>500059234
Dota's pro scene can effortlessly fund itself through in-game purchases. For example, you gather 40 million from skin sales and events, put away 20 for TI, put away 5+5+5 for majors and put away 5 more for lesser events.

It's entirely contingent on Valve willingly giving them money though which they no longer want to do so why would you pitch that a sustainable model

when I played Dota for the first time in 2012 I was taken aback at the killing spree announcer. It felt out of place compared to the everything else fantasy of Dota, though I didn't hate it, I thought it was cool. I don't use any other killing spree announcer pack now, the default one is perfect.

Your argument made it seem like esports is entirely at the mercy of outside forces, which is not true. The system I described requires an absolutely bare minimum of effort from Valve (skins from the workshop, some rare commissions and acting like a middleman between the artists and the community), but they don't do even that.

Then they will continue getting cursed by the Dota community for what they did to an established and popular event. It will get worse every year from now on.

X-post from /sqt/:
I just built a new higher end desktop and everything runs fine except whenever I try to play dota 2. While playing or viewing a match in-game my packets lost will spike from 0% to anywhere from 3 to ~30. The entire game stutters and after about a second everything goes back to normal. This occurs fairly regularly, usually once or twice every thirty seconds. I've updated all drivers, no other video games display this kind of behavior. I'm playing on a wlan but before the new rig my laptop never had anything like this happen.
I tried upgrading from Windows 10 ltsc to 11 ltsc to no avail.
How would I even start to troubleshoot this? Wireshark? Is there some way to log my network activity in dota during the match to analyze later? Any ideas?
Pic unrelated.

E-sports is an entirely unprofitable venture that is propped up by the Saudis, advertisers have left e-sports because they realised they weren't getting anything in return and they could spend a fraction of what they were on popular personalities with a large following to actually get people to buy their product, e-sports orgs when their financial situation is made public shows this(EG, Faze, etc) orgs(C9, TSM,etc) having much fewer teams than previously because they can't fund them now that advertiser money has dried up, unlike traditional sports which makes most of their money from licensing broadcasting rights is broadcast free there's no profitable economic model behind e-sports and the few remaining e-sports exist either because the publisher uses it to promote the game(League,Valorant) or because Saudi Arabia funds the prize pools like in dota(Outside TI) and CS

Valve exited e-sports in 2023 and returned it to the tournaments organisers to do what they want

>By existing as the only official league, the DPC has a stranglehold on the event calendar for the year and what it's filled with. Event organizers are innovating less, because that's effectively what we've been asking them to do: Instead of competing for viewers and players by producing compelling and inventive tournaments, organizers now compete for compliance with Valve’s long list of rigid requirements (team count, broadcast languages, event format, and more).

>Before we introduced these constraints, the world of competitive Dota was healthier, more robust and more varied than the one we have now. Events used to be less rote and more creative, and there was more room in the calendar for them. Everything was open for exploration: event length and themed venues and team participation and even the basic assumptions of tournament design. There was a beautiful unregulated insanity to it all
