Horatio should have a special terraforming project where they sculpt the planet to resemble their head, and when colonized the cities make it look like a really fucked up Chia Pet. Shaping an entire planet to resemble yourself is probably the most vain thing you could ever physically do, and half the empire would probably nut themselves to death from the sheer ego boost.

Once again shilling Tlatoani Aztec cities, which had it's Early Access launch recently and is well researched (as I explain in >>501156815)store.steampowered.com/app/3161270/Happy to answer questions about the game's historical and cultural theming and I might be able to get the main developer to answer questions too, since I know them>>501160697AFAIK Ubisoft generally takes a lot of liberties and always has with specific historical figures and the whole assassin vs templar plot, but that the architecture and cityscapes and to a lesser extent the outfits of random NPCs is generally pretty authentic. But Origins incorporated more mythological elements, then Odyssey relied more on romanticism in it's visuals, and Valhalla went full pop culture media tropes/sterotypes with medevial and viking stuff for it's visuals, architecture, outfits, etc>>501160939AOE3's Aztec architecture stuff is okay, but AOE2's is terrible. it's BS that DE release updated various stuff for NA Indigenous civs and even updated architecture graphics for Eurasian civs, but left the Aztec, Maya Inca etc's architecture set unchanged>>501160939There would have been white plaster/stucco over the outer brickwork, but then there was painted frescoes over/on the stucco. Some Conquistadors which claimed that "all" buildings in Tenochtitlan were white, but i'm sure "all" is a generalization and it doesn't preclude colored accenting, which is what most non shit artistic reconstructions do: predominately white exteriors with red, blue, etc as accents, and with larger multicolor murals in interiors, like picWhat that AOE3 render does is show stuff like what's often seen in interior mural reconstructions on the outside, which I maybe less likely given the conquistador statement, but not impossibe: Some other sites have big red, blue etc murals even on building exteriors, and Allegedly some guides at the Templo Mayor site have said it's exterior was more colorful, tho IDK based on what.

Yo guys. Back in the threads after many years. How is frenchfag? Also, I'm looking for something like Surviving Mars, had a blast with that one back in the days. >>501402846Are the planets you get to colonize different every time or it's always the same?
Fucking around with Steam dorf fort after not having played it for years is wild. My previous experience isn't COMPLETELY useless but a lot of it is. For example I could've sworn there was an easier way to queue up some jobs at a workshop (Like make 5 doors) than manually adding 5 fucking doors, or using a work order. Other than trying to get my feet under me (And my first batch of immigrants being a sicko with like 6 kids and a peacock) the updated version's pretty cool. Would not have expected to enjoy the graphics and especially the sound and music as much as I do. Trying to find where everything is in the new interface is a little fiddly too
I always feel like a retard playing 4x games. I don’t know what I’m doing and I don’t know how to get better. Watching professionals play and I can’t tell what they’re doing different compared to what I do. It gives me strong background character feelings…
>>501425438Just keep on trying, for me it just clicked at some point and after that I have been able to, if not win, then lose in the most fun way possible.
>>501412301The landscape is randomly generated but the planet itself is the same mars-like barren wasteland.
>>501427980Both a shame and a relief. Seems interesting, if I have time tomorrow I'll buy it and maybe post about the game. Also fuck me how come now I have to wait 900 seconds before posting reeee
>>501429603The terraforming aspect is a bit lacking as by the time i beat the game most of the planet was still a barren wasteland, but the game itself is decent, like the other anon said it's a factorio lite where your only enemy is depleting natural resources and forgetting to consult where water bodies will appear before building industry nodes.
>>501430162>can't fully terraform the planet before endgameWhy it's always like this.
>>501432492You'll start noticing the terraforming process a bit after the midgame, it's just so slow that you reach the end of the game with most of the planet still barren. It doesn't help that trees are what spreads terraformed biomes and trees don't grow everywhere (the desert parts will remain a mars-like desert forever).I hope one day the dev implements more earth-like biomes, like tundra, or savanna that can spread over colder/hotter climates. As it stands now it's just a bit unsatisfying.
For comparison, this is what the planet originally looked like.
>>501436830So it's literally like surviving mars. Well, I'm still interested in any case.
Not sure if this is the right general to ask, but since Age of Wonders 4 is currently free to play I wanted to ask how to pirate its DLCI remember the last time I tried a Paradox game (CK3) the usual method with creamapi didn't work
>>501440907Isn't it on GOG? You shouldn't need creamapi.
>>501368776it's not perfect in that it's too hard for me to replicate
>>501388039This is Tzar : the Burden of Crown.Well, more like Tzared, a free port.
>>501440907Paradox games are a lil weird with creamapi. The launcher doesn't register the DLCs, but the game reads and uses them just fine, it just means you can't selectively disable them. To get the launcher to read them you'd have to use cream on the launcher's files, but it only works for one game since they all share the launcher.Of course that's just my experience, they could've changed it at some point and made it more finicky.
>>501437101Looks like ass.Literally.
>>501442328Ah, so it isNot sure if it has all the DLC with the edition available for download, but I'll look into it, shouldn't be too hard then at least
>>501440907Cream does work but it requires the DLC files as well. Cream works without additional downloads if there aren't any necessary files (Because a lot of games just make everyone download all the DLC at all times and limit access to it, rather than having the DLC files as separate depots in Steam so only people who own the DLC downloads it) but AoW4 needs the files to get creamed. Which at that point it would be easier to just pirate the whole game from GoG rather than trying to pirate all the DLC to see how much you're interested. I got the latest expansion and patch downloaded and updated the other day for a pirated GoG install but haven't had the time or inclination to give it a look yet

>>501543501What's this?
>>501543501looks complicated
>>501475243It's excellent. The biggest knock against it is the writing, which does have some fun cheesy moments assuming you enjoy superhero cheese at all, but there's SO GODDAMN MUCH OF IT. The combat itself is fantastic though, the card game elements aren't so heavy as to be offputting if you aren't a card dork, and the tactics aren't super deep and crunchy, but as a whole as a game it works great. Setting up the cards for your heroes, figuring out heroes that work well together, figuring out things like you have a single normal move-action a turn which can also be spent on other things after upgrades (Some pushing, environmental attacks, etc) but some attacks cause your heroes to move naturally anyway so figuring out the ideal sequencing in each turn is really enjoyable. It's a damn shame Firaxis didn't have better writers (They tried to do some psuedo-Persona-like stuff with time management back at base, building up friendships, sticking your dick in all the heroes, etc) because the combat part of it unusual but great. Mission variety isn't as good as Xcom 2 and the card game part isn't anywhere near as deep as something like Slay the Spire but it comes together as more than a sum of its parts

>>501613224And I've been here since 1904, so 120 years.Newfag.
>>501617397How can it be 0% economic, don't units cost resources?
>>501618412They do, but you only have 5 ressources. 3 if you play space marines, 4 if you play tyranids.
>>501618808Is expansion mandatory or is turtling up and going tall viable?
>>501620280NTA, but it depends on the faction you are playing.Turtling can work great for space marines, as they only have 1 base in the game and cannot make more. For other factions though it would be a shit tier idea, as more bases means more resources and unit production, which is essential if you plan on keeping up with the other factions who ARE expanding in terms of power. Also, you need to make strategical plans to take over more resources in the map, as they make a huge difference in production. So try and control as many as you can and if possible reinforce them so the enemy does not take them from you. Also, you need to know your faction and its intended gameplay and work around that, like the necrons usage of their influence resource (the purple one), which is needed both to heal their necrodermis and to teleport to base before death, both abilities being responsible for the necrons main strategical advantage: war of attrition.
>>501554659>>501560610the cities are just auto generated
>>501620280Depends from faction, but the other asshole already stole my one and only chance to shine and show off how knowledgeable I am, so I'll sulk.
>>501622335Sorry bro, did not mean to steal your thunder, I just like the game and wanted to contribute to the discussion.I do not have any DLCs, only base game, so please go ahead and show off your knowledge on the DLC factions!
>>501622453Well, the Eldars and Dark Eldars rely on portals, who are randomly generated and placed on the map, but can be destroyed by enemies, so depending from world setting, they're locked as tall or they can expand. The Taus are asshole and deserve to die.The Sisters of Battles are similar to space marines, but can get bonuses from holy sites, but these only give bonuses.
>>501622685I was wondering about those webway gates, they show up even on base game, when you do not have access to eldars. Can these be build? Or you only have the ones from game start for the whole game?
>>501622860No, they cannot be built. They are generated at the map generation, and the eldar player can awaken them to fast travel, and he can turn them into cities. Same with dark eldars.
I'm assuming you're assuming that this applies to Zephon as well? Is it literally a reskin?

Well whatever, I'll just try it out
>>501623740I mean, I haven't played Zephon. I can tell you how Gladius is.
>>501623064Huh, I assumed you could build them like in DOW1, where you could just build the gates somewhere on the map, they were cloacked and would let you move through them, but had nothing to do with the main base.Kinda weird, but I guess GW might have redacted the eldar ability to build the webway gates in more recent editions? Game is so old that this is likely the case.Do the DLCs add more neutral creeps? Or are catachan devils and such the only ones in the game with all DLCs?
>>501624271Or it's for balance. Some races have early builders, others get them a lot later.I dunno for neutrals, but I know there's a DLC-exclusive superboss, the Skull Lord. Otherwise, it's all genestealers cultists, rebels mechanicus, slavers, von neumann wasps, and the round monster from the Astartes movie. And Cata-chan devils OwO.But the DLC feel cheap, most of them just add one or two units/buildings per race.
DOES ANYONE play alien horizon
>>501624601>Otherwise, it's all genestealers cultists, rebels mechanicus, slavers, von neumann wasps, and the round monster from the Astartes movie.I could be wrong, but I think genestealer cultists, wasps and whatever "round monsters from the astartes movie" is are not included in base game, so it must be DLC related.I only ever played singleplayer, is the multiplayer any good? There was that girl in my class that I liked, so under the excuse of working our project, I took her to the Doctor Who museum here. The next day, we went to visit some pasture, to study how the Welsh used cattle to graze the lands "naturally". On my way out, I was wearing shoes I really liked, and they were getting wet because of the tall grass, and I spotted a stone in the middle of the field, so I jumped on it to get a bit dried. It wasn't a stone, but a cow shit. That ruined my shoes and I spent half a hour cleaning them. And it was still a better experience than playing against T*us.

>>501622685>The Sisters of Battles are similar to space marinesOnly a little bit.SoB can build more that one city, it's just that those additional cities cannot expand beyond their initial 1-hex circle. Actually, it's that they can build, they NEED to build those cities since they need a ton of influence and resources to get things going. Sisters eat Influence like candy all game, the only faction more prone to spending this stuff are Necrons.Unit-wise sisters are completely dependant on their support units, and you will have to juggle those supports to use those AoE buffs effectively, especially in mid to late game where factions like Marines, Necrons and Chaos can just outmuscle you in a direct fight.Sisters also are weak to morale loss, because if you make them sad they lose their damage resist AND they can't use Acts of Faith until they cheer up again. Which is fucking terrible since Acts of Faith are great buffs and as was already mentioned, Sisters love buffs. Basically any serious offensive, especially into enemy city territory, will be prefaced with Sisters oiling each other up with 3-4 different abilities. Which means that Sororitas have bad early game, because until all big girls (heroes, Imagifiers) get off their tushy behinds, your army is operating at like half efficiency. Also unlike Marines, Sisters have a lot of flamethrowers, which makes them really good at clearing high-model count squads. Conversly, they aren't the best at dealing with single entity units. They are ok at anti-armor with Melta bombs and krak grenades being available to all infantry, and properly positioned (since they lose accuracy after moving) Retributors will absolutely PEG enemy vehicles except for superheavy shit. Saint Celestine isn't really good at dealing with cities, but almost everything else will be flattened with little trouble - if you give her proper wargear. So in total you're looking at like 1k+ Influence cost for her. Still, she's worth it.

>>501722108Yeah, I much prefer being able to manage the walker paths. The old impressions games kind of force you to create loops and I just don't like doing that, it makes the cities look weird.

So, I finally won this game. It took me 14 hours and 395 in-game years. Can't help but think I've been unbelievably inefficient through all of this, considering how an achievement asks you to get to this point in 100 in-game years. Yeah, I repeat, cute game, I hope they will improve it, especially the UI and the whole terraformation part. Right now it's useless to pursue it past 5% of plant coverage, and how much you actually terraform the planet won't really change anything. It just turn into an optimization contest to see how much time you need to get to 1M population.
>>501764942>Can't help but think I've been unbelievably inefficient through all of this, considering how an achievement asks you to get to this point in 100 in-game years.Kind of, but atleast you had the "bonus" of having a greener planet. >>501822610That's what you should be asking about the original.
>>501849720At launch, Stellaris had different kind of space travels. Wiz removed them all, keeping only hyperlanes. At launch, all ideologies felt different. Wiz "fixed" them so that they all feel the same, balanced for multiplayer. There was a voice pack for the advisor, who made the warlike advisor more of an angry Karen than a Federation Skymarshall.People complained on the forum that they didn't like it. Wiz's answer was a very smug "oh, of course we expected young men on the internet to not like strong, independent women ;)". When everyone, even his fans, started tearing into him for that, he issued a half assed apology and locked the thread. And on paradox plaza, you can't have duplicates, so he essentially stopped all discussions about that matter, and remaking a thread to talk about this would get you banned.
Oh yeah, and voice pack is paid. So Wiz essentially blocked paying customer from expressing their thoughts because his feelings got hurt after his arrogance was exposed.

>>501739231>In general how are you guys going about the new factions builds?I really like the new Calamity tome as a dual-affinity Tier 4 option and the change to Mayhem makes it a very valuable Tier 2 choice since it now gets Incite Revolt which lets you start chipping away at enemy cities and farming infestations well before jammers come into play.I usually play some variant of Chosen Destroyers just because I enjoy the mega-throne city gameplay. Primal Dune Serpent absolutely shits out gold and doesn't have the annoyance of ash saber since deserts are actually pretty good. Spending gold to rush production to save 2-3 turns on stuff is often worth it once your income is high enough, spending 200 to 300 gold to save 3+ turns of building is totally worth it when you get several hundred gold per turn anyways. The chaos matrix gives you Strengthened when casting chaos-alignef buffs which makes grabbing one a good choice and it's easier to do so now with Ways of War, either that or Shadow for the 30% evasion are my favorite picks now

>>501894250Stellaris likes sandwiching you between marauders and fallen empires, and breaks in half if you have too many event mods.Rimworld also breaks with too many mods, but even without them the worldgen sliders either do absolutely nothing or crank it up to max at just halfway.XPiratez's underground tilesets can place enemies inside inaccessible rooms, necessitating debug mode or spending 20 turns pickaxing every pocket open. And the dev says it's intentional.CDDA's mapgen has been borderline nonfuntional for years between not spawning any POIs or even cities and making 90% of the map barren ocean, though Bright Nights finally fucking fixed that.

>>501912784What the fuck. What is Dominus, and... what's Warcraft? Like, Warcraft 1?
>>501913298Warcraft 1, yes. And Dominus is an RTS where you play a big evil warlord and your kingdom's under attack so you can plop down monsters to defend it and make traps and torture captives and combine monsters to make big mutants and shit. It's almost like aboveground Dungeon Keeper before Dungeon Keeper existed. It may look more turnbased in screenshots since you see a map with a grid, but that's just because each square is an RTS map and everything's moving in real time everywhere. Haven't played it in decades so I have no idea if it holds up decently these days but I used to play it a lot because at the time since it was interestingly hands-off (For the actual combat, since it's real time you're meant to be bopping around doing shit while the fighting's going on most of the time) so it was good for imagining stories based on what was happening

>>501958516That's why I like Gladius. It's all about juggling units.
Get rushed, dummy. But in all seriousness, there is certainly something that makes Tyranid AI sometimes go completely catatonic. Sure, AI is never great at using faction-specific strategies, but it's decent at producing, maintaining and moving armies. Unless it's Tyranids, then there's like 20% chance AI will suffer a complete mental breakdown and just do next to nothing for dozens of turns.

>>501964335I'd say...Gladius.Warlock Master of the Arcane.Eador Genesis.Endless Legend.Deity Empire.Gladius's my fav, but I think it's mostly thanks to the Warhammer 40 000 layer. I highly doubt I'd like it as much otherwise.Warlock Master of the Arcane is weird, like a Majesty fangame, but less fun. It does follow in Gladius' style that you're constantly under attack.Eador Genesis is weird. I want to like it, but I can't.Deity Empires, FUCK that one, it just pisses me off because I keep forgetting to fight and I get too focused on developping my country.Honorary mentions :- Conquest of Elysium, very fun, but not balanced at all,- that other one whose name I'll likely remember once I hit Submit.

I can never really get into Civ because it feels like the AI cheats. Like if I focus on buildings I can't really develop an army but if I develop an army it feels like I fall behind. Yet the AI can have multiple armies and buildings in the same span. It just doesn't make sense.

>>502076436>feels like the AI cheats. It does.>>502076436>It just doesn't make sense. The developers gave AI cheating advantages in order to make up for the fact it is shit at the game. It would be much more expensive to actually develop the AI to be able to play well, so they take this kind of shortcuts.

>>502085528Possibly the worst ANNO to date compared to how good its predecessor and especially its successor were.
>>502085528Generally bad. You can basically categorize the games as:1404 and 1800 which are the best games, 2070 which is good, the pre 1404 games which are varying levels of good but all just bad versions of 1404 and really out of the running because of that and 2205 which is worst of the of the bunch. It has some stuff going for it but if you like anno games then don't pick it up.

>>502127186pathfinding is hard
>>502127634I mean, not just pathfinding, but like, there are so many games were stealth just doesn't work, you can't flank the enemy because the AI sees you through the frog of war.
>>502128089Good AI is hard to make, takes a long time with lots of testing, and thus is expensive. Better to just bang out something that works well enough for the 90% of players that just wanna smash together plastic armymen, then move on to making the rest of the game. The last 10% that want something more stimulating, will probably be playing multiplayer anyway.
>>502129674I hate how true this is.

When I die, my sister, who is married into another house, will inherit everything, which I believe will end the game. My son is gay. My daughter is gay. I can declare my niece my successor, but doing so is a moral crime on par with assassinating my sister, which I can't even do because she's baroness of some system so far across the galaxy that I wouldn't even know about it if it wasn't for her.
>>502085528It was an experimental Anno. They introduced some bad and some good stuff, but all of the good things they kept for 1800, so you might as well just skip 2205.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, catgirls are fucking goofy in melee.
I wish CA retroactively added cooperative campaigns to the old Total Wars, because it's the most fun I'm having in ages.
>>502139815I need starters tips, like how it plays compared to Starcraft 2 or AoE2. I get that heroes are a big deal, but what confuse me in the videos I watch is the upkeep thing, or the fact that every unit seem to have 453134514354135 hp and deal 2 damage per swing.
>loses to easy AIOkay seriously.
>still struggling with footmen>AI has wolf riders and taurens
>>502151291It has been a thousand years since I played WC3 but the deal with upkeep is there are a few breakpoints (I think 3, maybe 4) at certain population caps which push you into the next upkeep tier which reduces all your income. So I'm pulling numbers out of my ass but say you're at 50 population (Not necessarily units, since bigger units take multiple pop), now each peasant carrying a sack of gold back to town gives you 8 gold rather than 10. And at 100 population it might be 5 gold rather than 10, etc. Units having a ton of HP and dealing low damage is both to put more emphasis on big dick heroes doing their thing and for certain types of damage bootyblasting certain types of units, and to give you more reaction time so you can use healers and shit
I thought all my Battle Realms experience could help me, but my own units feel so bloody fragile while enemy units are super strong.>>502158609I see. At least it tells you as training start.

Fuck this is really scratching an itch I'd had for a while. I've been wanting a fantasy 4x with actual monsters and random events etc but without so many mechanics that I start missing things and falling behind. I don't really use many spells so teching up the tree is just a shooting darts at a board and I haven't figured out how to integrate vassal city states after I've hit peak influence. And I think I'm still fucking something up because I can't seem to play wide (already 1 city over my cap of 3). Also fuzzy on the victory conditions, can I just play slow expansion or does the late game get boring if I don't start attacking my allies? Also are there meta victories that someone could finish and instantly end the game without warning?Other than that it's fun so far, I'm glad it has an auto combat option.
>>502252345Age of wonder?

>>502256518I'm starting with the 'relaxed' (easiest) mode just as basically a tutorial but so far it's been very forgiving. I usually only play Civ games so I'm always wary of non-Civ 4x titles and I'd say this is one of the least punishing I've played so far. More engaging than Gladius for me because of the RP decisions, diplomacy and random events. If you watch any guide video for like 5 minutes you'll know more or less everything you need for the early to mid game.

what is all this red text mumbo jumbo i keep seeing in the thread here guys?i keep following the trail but it only bounce me around the thread i can't bloody keep track....
There's one reason I play strategy games: to feel like I'm creating history. Paradox games have some sort of rule of thumb to create their games, and that is that they design games in order to convey history first, and then design the mechanics on top of, while 4x games seem to do the exact opposite. Before I played Paradox Games for the first time, I scratched the make history itch by playing 4x games, specially Civilization, but now, they just feel so shallow and artificial, more closely reminding me of playing board games than a true historical experience.I'm not just here to trash 4x games, because they are not that way out of incompetence, but out of choice to provide players with an interactive and gamey like experience. I'm just talking about something I noticed about my gaming tastes.
Oh. I wasn't expecting this lad on my nice easy rookie-training zombie hunt.

I'm still surprised Empire at War is still going strong. Multiple major overhaul mods in active development for a nearly 20-year-old game with a mediocre-good baseline is an achievement.Still want a mod that replaces land battles with booting up a Battlefront 2 match.
>>502252345>And I think I'm still fucking something up because I can't seem to play wideYour mistake is in playing AoW4 for that.>does the late game get boring Yes, that's the reason the game is oh-so-unsubtly trying to force you to basically win by midgame.

What are the outstanding issues with CS:2? I'm looking at the update and history and seeing that they've basically done nothing in the year since release, but also I'm seeing gameplay footage and it looks fundamentally fine?
I've been playing fairly heavily modded civ 6 with a friend because it was on 90% sale recently and some of the key things I've modded in are>Much slower eras using grand eras and 6T, and we play on marathon mode>mods for tall play and cutting back heavily on early game expansion>military units taking population to produce, removing the free settlers from AI>much much larger map, the largest possible without crashing and performance issues early on>a mod for many core systems like religion, governments, policy cards, governors, trade, great people, etc. to deepen themand most importantly>AI rework mod to make them smarter but get less free shit and cheap cheaty feeling bonusesand it occurs to me to askis there a better game to be doing this in..? A game that has a stronger base in one or more of these core aspects, better balance, or maybe even just a more challenging (without being cheap) and interesting AI..?it feels at this point like the game has been made into a different game entirely and I'm just wondering if maybe something else out there would be better for how I want to play

>>502724123>Interesting but why the mixed reviews?.Because some characters are turned into women, and it offends people who don't play games but feel strongly about them.
>Metal slug tacticWhat is your take on it, anons? Imo its pretty fun as of now, the enemy variety allow for things not to get stale too quickly and the weapons buffs allow for a wide range of viable strategies, but my main complaint is how explosives tend to be so viable they're basically a meta, like you cant go wrong with them no matter what which make things a tad too easy at time. And some of the combo you can do are genuinely broken, like the mirror perk which create a copy of your attack on your left and right side, so if your attack cover multiple areas then you can abuse the hell out of it (ie has a sword that would hit every one around me, with the perk it would effectively make it a triple hit attack which kill 95% of the game enemies in one hit.

>>501904774Age of Empires. I was like 6, but I still remember my first game. I was just fucking around with collecting resources and hunting animals when the AI showed up with axemen and destroyed me. Even on my second game, I somehow never found the age-up button. I made as many clubmen as I could to defend, then the AI showed up with axemen and destroyed me. My dad helped me find the age-up button eventually. I usually played on island maps where the AI couldn't invade me easily. I just built everything that I could, built army up to full capacity, then built the wonder and did my best to defend.

>>502830272You're correct about Cosmic Storms. Even people who bought it prefer to keep it turned off because it's just annoying.Machine Age is pretty good. Funnily enough, gestalt machines don't get that much out of it. It mostly focused on individualistic machines (that play like a regular empire, just robots), with some spicing up of Synthetic/Cybernetic ascension paths. And Arc Furnaces/Dyson Swarms are nice cheap megastructures to give you something to build in the midgame. Definitely one of the better DLCs.That said, I will always advise pirating Paradox DLCs rather than paying for them.
