The Bioware formula of "these companions have side quests that you can complete whenever you want during the story" gets old as the years go by, after playing BG3 you realize how it is possible to have side quests that are perfectly integrated into the main plot. Instead with Veilguard you have the impression of sometimes being in a game more similar to those of Bethesda, where in a sandbox you can choose which adventure to face, like in an amusement park.I'm not saying that one thing is better than another, but in a type of experience that wants to be avowedly cinematic and epic, the sense of urgency is lost when I have to go with harding to have a picnic in the forest.

I literally can't keep track about what's going on, this game is really bad with how it presents main quests and some are so short it's embarrassing. Inquisition had a clear cut prologue. While I wasn't a fan of it initially, one very big benefit from having Rook as the protagonist over Inquisitor is that they're free to call Solas an asshole and tear into all his faults without the baggage of being his friend, and wanting to redeem him like my Inquisitor wanted to do.
