Feels like a dumb suggestion, but have you tried talking to him? It would be funny but not inconceivable to get through the game without realizing you can also initiate conversation
I'd also say even if all seem grey'd out, there are very few occasions where there are still options behind grey'd out dialog lines. I would go through and exhaust those just to make sure.

You do understand the difference between 'subjective' and 'objective' right? Like what you're talking about isn't an objective quality, and your subjective feelings about it aren't even some kind of huge majority. Lots of people enjoy the Pillars setting, lore, characters, and stories.

For me, I guess since I read a lot, I know what to expect from CRPGs, and it's like "books I enjoy" > CRPG1 = CRPG2 = ...
Not a huge distinction between any of them, really. Rarely offensively bad enough writing for me to notice, I think only Underrail made me stop due to its writing.

I wouldn't advise dumping resolve, munchkins do say this though. It's the kind of thing someone who plays exactly one way over and over would say.
I would drop a little of both Might and Int to get more Per. If you're not landing anything, it doesn't matter how strong it is (might) or how big of a radius (int). Perception is pretty important. If you want to be more damage dealing, I'd even say something like 16 might, 14 Int. For more CC, 16 int, 14 might. Something like that. But you really want your perception higher than 10.
Also a 6 con will fuck you, you'll be dropping every battle and failing every fort single save.

I chose the option that makes nobody displeases everyone and helps no-one
And that's the end for Raima
>>

>>521515872
wizards need high might for their spells to hit harder, especially if playing a nuke wizard. Same with dex as it makes you cast spells faster. Int is needed too. Also avoid any NPC in gold text.
>>521516151
oh no.... if you wanted to truly do the true neutral option it would've been berath
>>
>>521516330
OK so that's pretty similar then. I never put any points in Might but got some form passives and equips wich did add straight damage and Dex was needed to not miss from further away.

>>
>>521516646
Nope
I went with Wael because I had to make choice. And it felt like the most appropriate
I didn’t want to do their bidding because I didn’t know what my choices would lead to. So I went with an option that embraced that absurdity, that embraced the fact that nobody will know what happened. The souls can’t be returned. As Hylea said they are unready for the next step before life. But how can how return life to dead bodies? However, even if that is the case, they don’t deserve to be destroyed or fed to others either. They deserve the lives they were deprived of. So I give them back, throughout all of time and space, so they may fall outside the clutches and knowledge of the gods, even it they wished to gather them up again.
I don’t want to be beholden to anyone’s expectations anyway, and Wael’s option seems the most like a suggestion

An interesting thing regarding the dialogue, where in the more recent games I can think of, the helpful and nice lines will generally be on the top, likely due to popularity, but in BG the top slots are often occupied by telling people to go fuck themselves. Could it be the blood of Bhaal speaking?

Yes, rather "easily".
3 days ago, maybe 2. It was hard, but I just put my party in the top right corner to avoid the blind so I could buff, wait out the fear, and kill him
Eder engaged and I just used standard stuff to end him. The entire fight is just positioning. Your spells largely play themselves. Just fish for petrification and stack focus for disintegrate + and use cleansing flame. Petrifaction also keep the adds under control, you have time to buff before the stunning spectres but care when they spawn
>>521519919
Uhh Weals ending, sided with the Doemaels, and the Glanfaethen were spared, Raedric was killed twice and no allegiance to the gods. Thaos had his slate wiped clean and was given a new chance. Abydon was reforged and tempered without his memory.
For companions Hiravius becomes a wandering druid of wael, Eder becomes a mayor, Aloth is dismaneteling the leaden key, Sagani learns the lesson of family, Maneha keeps her memory, the Devil of Caroc dies by the ocean feeling something for the first time in her new body, Durance becomes a hobo, Zahua starts a new tribe, Grieving mother idaf I didnt pay attention, Pallegina becomes a paladin of the kind way farer after she changes the trade plan to avoid war, and Kana becomes a decent scholar
I also brought the baby along, it's cool that I could, the tribe is clearly too callous about children, it needs a better home.

If you want a more accurate breakdown it was something like this in parallell
Aloth: deleterious alacrity of motion -> merciless gaze -> accuracy -> tayns chaotic orb -> gaze of adragan on everyone else -> killing bolt
Durance: crown of the faithful for bonus int and perception to everyone -> champions boon for might to Aloth -> minor avatar -> cleansing flame -> general spells. I might have done a prayer against restraint in there
Pallegina was there to cleanse the stuns and draw aggro as well as heal to get everything I needed off worst case scenario. You can give her the sword of endless paths or something similar for accuracy to your team when she focuses an enemy
Cipher: wait for crown -> wild leech -> stack focus on adds -> disintegrate -> time parasite -> borrowed instinct -> amplified wave
If you take lore you can weave in a scroll of accuracy at the start, I think they stack
Eder tanks and summons in a beetle to draw 1 dragon attack
Maneha: potion of power as you wait for crown -> rage -> run over and kill mobs

You should be able to do this at level 12 just fine, but I was level 14 since I didn't do it until white marsh part 2. Being higher level helps of course, but level 8 spells are not necessary

Okay, I thought about the story sometime and I have some questions
Why do the delegans call us an ancient soul, and why do we know the words engwithian people when we speak to the Anamenfath, if we are not engwithian ourselves, as Thaos seems so suggest?
And why is Woedica so unwilling to talk to us until the literal end when we were her inquisitor, and a pretty decent one at that?
Why does Skaen encourage us to follow her? I get that he is the slave and all, but I thought he was about uprising, not us joining the "elite" and following orders so to speak?
¨
And most importantly, why make "going insane" from your gift your driving motivation when the delegans explain that our soul is drawn to Thaos whether we are aware of it or not? It's a way better point, especially considering that the insanity just goes away after we win anyway. It feels half-baked, like they needed an easy hook instead of a good one. Something which they failed at btw, great premise for a game, but it does not grab the average player right away to put it mildly
>>
>>521534556
People getting the giggles? Why that clip? It's not that funny, just one of those moments where friends can't keep it together.
I'm not sure what I'd show, there's such a massive amount of total hours it's hard to decide. I think the whole battle on the docks where they end up accidentally stealing a ship is good but less good if you don't know any of the characters or surrounding context.
It's interesting that Dimension20 isn't more popular, I suppose because it's gated behind a dropout subscription. But the episodes are shorter, there's way more figures and sets, and there's a slightly more scripted feel to it so it's a bit more streamlined.

Yeah but I always found it hokey, and was satisfied to learn some time ago that Sawyer didn't originally want the Watcher to have anything to do with this game.
But, I also do enjoy importing decisions even if most of them make almost no impact, so that's a plus I suppose.
The souls stuff does work anyhow, a nice convenient way to "continue" as that character but also start from level 1.

This is going to be close, and we'll have to immediately head back to Drezen, nobody alive who can raise dead. Cam and the raptor got dissolved in the rift of ruin, Ember immediately down from Destruction.
I killed the one guy who keeps fucking everything with his spells, rift of ruin, ice strike, fucking Destruction... then he just .... reappeared? Ulbrig's got him grappled so that helps at least, though I don't think it's canceled any of his spells so far.
The other guy has just been slowly worn down by Domain of the Hungry Flesh (though so have a few companions) and wasting his time on my summoned undead and shadow demon. I did manage to get a greater dispel on him which brought him down to like 50 AC lol.
Woljif died already, but came back (with spells? is that normal, I don't recall that being how things work but that's really interesting if so) and rather pointlessly cast Transformation, he'll try to land some shots with a crossbow (Crossbow of Judgment, can only hit on 20 but also auto succeeds the crit)
We can still win it but it's not looking good. Vs undead is still very much my weak spot.
>>
>>521565661
Well, we did it. Some really good gear, but an even better fight! Now back to Drezen to heal up and modify equipment. Unfortunately there is I think just a tiny bit more to do in these woods so we'll be returning again at some point, though I don't like these areas and am eager to leave them behind.
I'm also disappointed that I messed up Ulbrig's romance because 1) I've never seen it and 2) I don't bring him along so wouldn't miss him on a later thing that I spoiled myself about with lich
I'm romancing Wenduag which I've already seen when I played demon, so it won't be too bad when the lich stuff comes up.

There is maybe becoming a 40-level megacaster Legend, you keep your merged lich spells right?

Be a Lich or Angel. Third option is be a Magic Deceiver and nuke enemies with your custom bullshit spells but that still requires some work. If you want to be a regular caster then you better start stacking Spell Penetration, DC, etc with the right gear and feats. Being a caster in Kingmaker was so much easier. Sure you don't have abundant casting but you can also just chuck a big evocation spell into a group of enemies and kill most if not all of them without having to worry about overcoming billion things.

>Why do the delegans call us an ancient soul, and why do we know the words engwithian people when we speak to the Anamenfath, if we are not engwithian ourselves, as Thaos seems so suggest?

The reincarnation cycle naturally degrades souls after a while. Some souls are more resilient to this, which is what you are. You’re not Engwithan, your last life was, but you learn the language from the cipher woman in the heritage hill zombie mission in defiance bay.

>And why is Woedica so unwilling to talk to us until the literal end when we were her inquisitor, and a pretty decent one at that?

You’re her enemy now going against her agents trying to stop their plans. You are not your last life. Reincarnation is soul recycling, you are not the same as your past lives.

>Why does Skaen encourage us to follow her? I get that he is the slave and all, but I thought he was about uprising, not us joining the "elite" and following orders so to speak?

Skaen is interesting. Two theories. 1) he represents overthrowing the rulers and supports those trying to do that. Wordica was the former ruler of the gods and was overthrown by the rest. He could he helping her overthrow the current power hierarchy. 2) my theory is that Skaen is a honeypot god designed to make sure uprisings fail by being so extreme that the status quo stays the same. Why would the Engwithans create a god that would overthrow and destroy their hard work creating an empire through the god worship? He works with Woedica as a way to enforce Engwithan hegemony.

>why make "going insane" from your gift your driving motivation when the delegans explain that our soul is drawn to Thaos whether we are aware of it or not?

Most people who awaken go insane like Maerwald at Cad Nua. It’s not natural to remember past lives. Only strong souls that are resilient to natural decay in reincarnation can resist it.

Demon if you want to charge shit. pick aspect of schir and kalvakus and destroy everything in one charge. alternatvely you can also go Legend. with the boots of stempede which gives extra damage with athletics you can get something like +40 damage which combined with spirited charge lets you do 300 charge damage
>>
>>521582282
Order of the paw is a class for halflings riding dogs right? Tricksters are supposed to be the clever heroes that have stories of making demons look like retards or whatever, so it plays into that. Azata is all about "power of friendship" bullshit, which also plays into that.

I like Cam because it's fun seeing real people get manipulated by a video game character. Same reason I like Reed from 2077. There's nothing actually interesting about her, though. She's just an unrepentant psycho with no greater depth.

There is no other character that makes people talk as Cam does, that makes them deny their own interest. A literal masterpiece, incredible, a once in a lifetime feat of genius
>>
>>521598193
She's nonintrusive. She does not chime in with inane shit every conversation like the other two, so I don't mind having her around until it's time for her to die
>>
>>521598327
The other two what?
>>
I think they should stop mentioning Cam because it reveals how obsessed they are with her, it's a bit concerning to hate a fictional woman so much
>>
>>521598401
Nenio and Linzi. Nenio I kind of ignore, I never understood the hate for her. Linzi is fucking grating though. Why are you narrating the beginning of my quest when I went out of my way to get a starting party that excluded you?
>>
What's about Cam that spawns so much bile?
>>
>>521598472
Nenio doesn't have anything in common with Cam other than being in the same game. Linzi has a similar potential problem of fucking up a team that planned to use her (if you kill Cam), but it doesn't have anything to do with personal preferences in characters
>>521598543
Her actions?

I think you might be retarded. The innitial statement went that anon doesn't hate Camellia, and that there are far more hateable characters in the game

Kreia discussions are always annoying because so many people actually sincerely engage with her philosophy rather than realizing that she's just completely full of shit.

Anons absolutely hate (and love) Camellia. She's the most polarizing character in rpgs also because she's written so well and challenges every notion commonly accepted in the genre

If you don't like Linzi or Nenio just don't use them and suddenly they're irrelevant. The worst Linzi ever does is buys a printing press or some shit, and the world Nenio does is have an annoying puzzle sidequest

In your opinion, what cRPGs are best suited for movie/TV show adaptation? Personally I think it's Knights of the Old Republic (the first one), because that game has managed to capture what people actually loved about Star Wars (even though they ended up heavily borrowing from Empire in order to achieve so) and VtM: Bloodlines, because the game has lots of charm and atmosphere, it has a massive thought-out world and is full of interesting stories, which vary from different kinds of horror to detective fiction to vampire politicking to outright dark comedy, there's also a lot of potential for good action sequences; I believe that there's at least one good season of television just hidden in there, maybe even two.
>>
>>521602445
WotR? So far my no bullshit, longsword and shieldbash ranger has worked.

There is a short story written by Jorge Luis Borges called Deutsches Requiem, its main character is a Prussian noble who had lost his faith in Christianity and became a member of SS in order to usher the New Era free of servile Christian timidity, then he became the director of concentration camp, where he torture and murder Jewish intellectuals in order to kill his own compassion (even though he likes them on an intellectual level much more than his fellow SS men), he lost everything to war — his leg, his brother, his family house, and now he sits waiting for a firing squad, rejoicing that the Old World is essentially dead, even though the price was the destruction of Germany: "Let heaven exist, though our place be in hell". I find this character strangely compelling, only my kind of villain would be more fatalistic and of Hegelian persuasion rather than Schopenhauer & Nietzsche one; an agent of dialectic process and (perceived) Weltgeist, so to speak.

Farscape had its moments, but drama between characters was so fucking dull and tedious.

>>521507660
No. Fuck no. An utter piece of shit. I still refuse to believe how Moore has managed to pen both some of the best Star Trek TNG/DS9 episodes and THIS. Also, I'm deducting some points even further, because the popularity of this crap essentially made Stargate Universe into what it was and it propelled Tricia Helfer to get a top billing in every high-profile videogame of 2007-2013 (don't get me wrong, she's a fine looking woman and always tries to do her best, only her best sometimes wasn't good enough).

>>521508123
SG-1 was good but somewhat inconsistent in terms of quality, Atlantis was mostly the same, only worse (the only reason you any sane person would watch SGA beyond season 2 is the antics of Sheppard-McKay duo and rare SG-1 episode crossover).

>>521508473
Ori storyline at the beginning was actually quite intriguing, but then it rapidly deteriorated and was abruptly finished in season 10 and the movie. Probably the worst story arc conclusion since the Dominion War.
>Ironically enough when the two main actors from farscape get major roles
Well, it's not like it was their fault. Claudia Black arguably did her best with Vala material, and Ben Browder was horrendously miscast to play a straight man of the group (even though in Farscape he proved again and again that he shines at playing wacky, hammy and over-the-top kinds of characters; he would've been a great recurring Goa'uld).

The ori was ruined by being yet another boring ancients storyline. Stargate peaked at Anubis and then never recovered.

Ori weren't bad because they were just another Ancient breed, but because they were quickly revealed as duplicitous and malevolent force that just wants to sap the energy from lower being who practice their false religion. >Stargate peaked at Anubis and then never recovered.
I usually attribute it to RDA slowly distancing himself from the series. He was the soul of the show, his nonchalant attitude and ad lib jokes essentially transformed the series from whatever it was trying to be in season 1 into a comfy sci-fi adventure that eventually survived for 10 seasons. This, and the writing started to become a bit stale, which is expected for a show of this length.

I don't think he's wrong, actually. Give the similar budget and relative freedom to Sawyer, or to MCA, or Troika (but only in full, meaning Cain, Boyarsky AND Jason Anderson, who is underappreciated, I think), or James Ohlen (which would be the obvious choice a for Baldur's Gate game) — and I believe they would've made a better game than Swen.

Witcher 3 was one of the most successful games ever 10 years ago too. And before that everyone and their mother were gushing about Mass Effect and Skyrim. Are those still better than everything Obsidian had ever made? Or maybe even The Outer Worlds would've buried them dead if it was released circa 2010?
>and the revival of a dead genre
And what did Baldur's Gate 3 exactly "revived"? How many large budget cRPGs were greenlighted and subsequently released because of its popularity? Or did it spearheaded the sales of tabletop RPGs? In fact, I would say that Shadowrun Returns, Wasteland 2, Pillars 1 and other crowd-funding pioneers remain much more influential in this perceived revival than BG3 is right now.

I don't know why people say Sawyer doesn't care about romance. He clearly does as he adds them in the game, only difference is he seems to have some strange stigma against the player character getting any and only makes it so that companions or NPCs get laid.

Look at Pillars 2, when he did add romance for the player he went out of his way to make sure it all ends badly. With the fish girl and the priestess if you romance them you end in up a long distance relationship where you barely see them, but if they romance each other they get a happily ever after with zero issues. I can go on and on about how EVERY Obsidian game has this dynamic but I wont.

Speaking of Sawyer, there's some interview video I've wanted to see again but am shit at tracking stuff like that down.
I think it was pre-Deadfire but it might not have been, but it wasn't his recent slew of youtube videos. There may have been someone else next to him. It was answering questions from people.
Anyhow the important bit is one of the questions was "Why are they called the Leaden Key" and his answer was kind of interesting but I've forgotten it.
Very low chance anyone has that offhand but it's something that nags in the back of my mind occasionally.

For me, I have no kind of feelings about creators whatsoever and have a very strong ability to separate artist and art. But Sawyer is one of the few developers who I think says anything worth a damn, is interesting and able to be self-critical when it's warranted. Contrasted with someone like Tim Cain who also does interviews and talks, but I find bullshitty and even downright wrong most of the time.
But I don't have any personal feelings about these people more than they are insiders to the kind of game I most enjoy, and would even like to make myself.

because he‘s ridiculous. He is uncomfortable with the idea of the player/customer using entertainment as an outlet for fantasy. He thinks there is something strange about fictional romance and the people that consume it and so tries to make it as uncomfortable as possible for the reader to prove some point to himself that he’s smarter than those people and unlike them, he doesn’t need such trivial content to feel fulfilled or to fill a void, or something. Mostly it’s because he lacks the ability to write a convincing/exciting romance and this is how he copes

because it’s obvious given his attitude. If he could write a good romance he would be lauding himself as the King of CRPG Romance and leaking through a third party as I type this that in order to be successful, the devs of BG4 will need to bring him on as creative romance director of the sex and love department or risk nuking their reputation forever. Look at what he allows himself to enjoy publicly. He plays these insipid, ugly games alone and tries his best to talk indepth about the least interesting topics in a bid to appear knowledgeable and intelligent. I simply don’t think he’s interesting enough to write a good romance
>>
I'm glad that Sawyer has a different view of romances
it does get kind of weird how rabid people get over it, BG3 being the prime example
>>
>>521632779
>If he could write a good romance he would be lauding himself as the King of CRPG Romance
First of all, you're just extrapolating, second, even if it's true then at least he has enough self-criticism to admit his weaknesses. I don't remember BioWare back in their heyday doing a romance that would've felt exciting and organic in their games probably since the days of KotOR, but that never stopped them.
>>
>>521632779
It's clear there's a hate boner for him in your post but at least he's self aware that he probably couldn't do it well. Then you get cringe shit like the pathfinder or BG3 romances which feel tripe and fanfic as fuck.

Provide some concrete examples, please.
>No Sawyer is not going to fuck you and make you work on the fabled Pillars 3.
Who says I would be excited for him to do Pillars 3? In fact, I would rather see him doing other things, go a "Tim Cain route", so to speak (Cain did Fallout, then he went straight to Arcanum, then he spearheaded the development of Temple, because he wanted to do a D&D cRPG that wasn't set in Forgotten Realms, then he was working on WildStar because the entire MMO thing was a new field to him, then he was working at Tyranny, which isn't exactly your run of the mill fantasy cRPG, and finally he did The Outer Worlds simply because he never did an action sci-fi game; man clearly doesn't like doing the same thing over and over again, which is healthy in my book; Sawyer probably should do the same, and Pentiment was a decent enough start).
>>
>>521636350
First of all, reading between the lines is you interpreting what Sawyer said, not what he actually said. Then what was meant by
>he and just laughed and ignored the cuck from cali
I interpreted that as saying Swen laughed at the "cuck from cali".

well shit. She's just a buffbot I guess so I can use Cam but will be limiting myself to maybe 2 Breath of Lifes. Protection/Resist Fire will be the biggest players there, as well as the KC having a Greater Dispel ready. Fortitude is probably through the roof so landing a Plague of Abaddon is unlikely. Though we could spend a round stacking Evil Eye - Saving Throws to -8 in total, and if the dragon is attacking Cam then each bite will call for a save against the Plague... But she won't last long. I will have her prepare Communal Stoneskin for sure.

A lot to consider with this turn of events. Important to remain professional while we plan our attack.

I looked it up, it’s called Pentiment. I love history, I read history, I talk about history, I play history games. This doesn’t interest me. It looks like an ugly, lesser Apotheon with stuffy writing and none of the combat. The reviews seem inflated by sycophants, and it looks like a linear “rpg,” closer to a glorified visual novel. >It’s probably easier now than it ever has been
EASIER doesn't necessarily mean EASY. Fuck, what can be easier than to do remakes of the original Fallout games? It's like a bit of free money and LOTS of fan goodwill just lying around. But instead they preferred to essentially wipe the events of those games from existence in TV show.
>Also Microsoft need to split up Bethesda into teams because it’s insane that the two of the biggest franchises in vidya is held back by a company that releases a game every 10+ years for a series.
I don't believe it can be done, because a) there's probably some clause in acquisition deal that prohibits M$ to do so (or at least for some period of time), b) Bethesda owns MUCH more than Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises, like id Software, Arkane Studios, Wolfenstein franchise, The Evil Within series, rights for Indiana Jones games, etc; how would you split all that?

>Bonus because they weren't around in 2015 and would've had time for another game
IIRC, core of Owlcat devs were working at Nival Interactive, one of the oldest videogame developers in Russia (who had released their first cRPG in the same year as the original Baldur's Gate). Although, I don't know if there's someone still left from that era (but there are definitely some of the Heroes of Might and Magic V devs around). So they are not exactly spring chickens either.
