So there's not "strategy" to the battles, right?You just try and power up your big guy before the opponent powers up their big guy. There's pretty much nothing you can do to stop/stifle your opponent from powering up. So it doesn't seem like there is any strategy or when you have to make a tough decision. That is, making the most optimal choice seems really easy to figure out and there aren't really many "bad plays" you can do since you just power up your big guy and win.Please correct me if I'm wrong. So yes, the goal is to power up as fast as possible before the other guy.That said, you're playing a watered down version of an existing TCG that literally just released and is meant for casual play. The draw for TCGs for many often comes from card effect interactions and deck building potential (aka a non-entirely competitive deck can be fun because its synergy is cool or unique). This game is way too new for there to be much experimentation, but give it time. Shit's not even been out a week.

The only people who can get easy kills on Zapdos are the ones who are also playing the Zapdos deck. You get around 360 hourglasses worth of new player content that should give you enough cards if you pull on a focus. 240 of these are easily obtainable after intro tutorials and the remaining 120 can be earned from level ups, solo rewards and the shop tickets. Give or Take.The wisest tactic is to at least spent 240 hourglasses worth of cards and decide if that account is worth keeping. Then you have to decide: will you keep pulling with the remaining glasses? did you get good enough pulls to stop there? if yes then you will be able to save for a next pack and you can dig the rest with your daily packs. As you do this, you will steadily earn some more through the daily missions and your claimed shop ones (there's a monthly reset tier that you should try to claim asap, 210 shop tickets)Future events and new packs will most likely include some spare hourglasses so that you can roll a bit from them, but never again enough for 30 pulls me thinks.

While stat inflation will probably happen, it will be way slower than you think. What you'll more likely see is "consistency creep". There will just be more card draw in general, less random search than pokeball, fewer coin flip effects in general. It's funny to hear people complain about how "scummy" pocket is but it's actually really fucking generous. Back in MY DAY playing PTCGO everyone loved it because there was no way to spend money in the game to buy stuff. The main way was scanning code cards from your IRL packs, which would give you packs in game. It was great if you wanted to get some extra games in if you were a player of the real life game. But if you weren't it was dogshit. The solo challenges in that game gave you like 1 pack every like 5 games or something even from the very beginning. After that you stuck in the containment format for losers where you could only play lame preconstructed decks with the other f2p scrubs. It would take months to build a relevant deck and by that point a new set would come out and you'd be even further behind.But people praised that shit for some reason and complain all day about pocket, which I have like 4 good (like tier 2) decks in already. If you just open pikachu packs exclusively on your day 1 you have the best deck in the game. You don't have to do any grinding, 2 packs a day just get dropped off each day. I would have killed for something like this back in 2014 when I was a dumb kid with no money.

It also had like 8 different sets running in the standard format, and you'd need bits and pieces from all of them to have a viable deck. Pocket gives you 2 packs every day with no grinding required, and only has like 220 different cards. You also spend like 15 minutes doing nothing but opening packs the moment you start the game. You will definitely have everything you want from 2/3 of the packs by the time the next set drops even if you are a total lucklet.Pocket is EXTREMELY generous.

I just battled the Venusaur Deck with my Sandslash Deck and got hilariously stomped. Every turn he kept using Prof. Oak for extra draws and had multiple evolved Venusaur EX and Exeggutor and he just 1 shot my strongest Pokemon.I though Farfetch'd was hot shit for that 40 attack but his Kangaskahn did better damage and had twice my HP.

It's like they want to squeeze everyone as much as possible and shut down. One of the producers stopped being involved with the game around September too, which came across as a red flag. I don't think DeNA should've been involved with this game. I think they only got the job because they're buddy-buddy with GF. They're not good at producing content that feels worth what they charge/try to drain from you. Duel Links by contrast is great with resources and only sucks as far as meta balancing goes, which is a far better problem to have, like 1st world problems.
