There's just so many other crowd-control items that work better, like Stun Seeds, Sleep Seeds, Petrify Orbs and its variants like Foe-Hold, Foe-Fear, etc. I think if you can neutralize an enemy and still defeat it at a low risk, that's substantially better than just teleporting it somewhere else. It could even be teleported to the next room and happen to autopath to you anyways, so why risk that if you don't want to deal with it?

I think the gameplay loop is fine as-is, I would just prefer the variety of mission types to be... quadrupled, at a minimum. I haven't put much thought into what kind of missions they would be. Maybe the Job Board gets even further diluted to include jobs that are relevant in the immediate area reaching to different communities and you help out with like, running a restaurant or something with a time trial minigame.
For actual dungeons, maybe something like resource-acquisition, there's resources that a certain community needs and you take the job to go gather it throughout a dangerous dungeon, maybe through some interactive means on special floors (there's crystals in the walls and you need to mine them out with a pickaxe or something)

You've never done the Level 1 dungeons and it shows. It's a good "oh shit" button, and can get you out of hopeless situations instantly. Not as reliable as Pure Seeds, but definitely worth taking if you find them.

I actually haven't yeah, never got around to it. I can definitely see how they're useful in situations like that, but in day-to-day standard gameplay which is what I do in PMD games because I get a dopamine hit every time I finish 4+ missions in one sitting, there's much better options when it comes to being able to bring items with you.

Doom Seeds and Trapper Orbs, maybe. Lowering an enemy's level by 1 and spawning a random trap feel pretty pointless, or at least extremely niche.

Hard to say. I don't know much about game design. But I do remember finding RNG-based stuff like recruiting difficult mons or finding the right Rare Quality annoying, so maybe I'd reduce that sort of stuff.

Yeah, they exist. They're consistently present in the series, so they are canon, but the majority of buildings we've seen in PMD aren't head-shaped... thankfully. Head houses are silly. I'm sure there's some deep traditional/cultural reason why some Pokemon choose to build them, though.

I just finished PMD: Guiding Light and my heart is so heavy. I can't believe I almost feel depressed over a particular fictional character. Like no other story has hit me this hard. If you don't give a shit about spoilers, here you go


Antagonist is a human lady who had a husband and children. She gets isekaid into PMD as basically a rioulu slave. Her memories are in tact and she spends almost 25 years searching a way back to the human world. In the meantime she's rescued by a guild and ends up mating with the guild master's son because he keeps hitting on her and reminds her of her human spouse. She doesn't really want kids since she hates this world and only thinks of her real kids. Keep in mind she was isekaid right after the events of the first PMD game with the meteor. So she also lived through 3 horrific world ending crisis of the following games. But fuck it all, she's depressed, been trapped in this hellhole for decades, and the sex is amazing (says so herself).

Anyway, her pokemon mate ends up rescuing an egg they adopt, and few years later pressures her into have their own child. She names both children after her human children as cope. She only pretends to love these poke children for her mate but loses her sanity when her mate gets killed (I'm not gonna bother explaining how as that is a whole other part of the main story). She asks ho-oh if they can revive him, but instead of admitting they are unable, they basically say "her heart is too dark" and to fuck off.

This shit is too much for her to handle. She takes her rage out on her children emotionally, and months later ditches them to go on a solo "mission" to investigate her mate's death. She ends up being killed in the same manner. Well almost. Her body is mangled and zombie-like, even missing an eye. But she gets possessed by Necrozma. She turns his power against him and uses his god powers to steal souls/aura. Yeah she becomes an evil human and evil lucario. Very ironic.

She has a plan to get rid of all the gods (partly revenge for all their negligence and squabbles and also to prevent further isekai fuckery affecting more humans) and send herself back to her human life. She kills some innocent mons along the way but she plans to use the time gears to restore them so no biggie. But of course the main heroes are like "nooo your plan won't work because... it just wont!" So by irony her own poke child (and main protag who is also human isekaid) foil her plans and she ends up dying for good.

Yeah, that's it. She gets no redemption. No "i actually loved you" or "I'm sorry". She gets weakened enough by her child and life force stolen back by Necrozma like a bitch. I won't say she didn't deserve it all. She could have loved her poke children and accepted her life in this new world. She shouldn't have been abusive. But she was obviously mentally ill/distraught, and it was heavily indicated that necrozma's dark powers only brought forth her negative thoughts. Every other mon that gets possessed by this power is set free by the heroes and given a chance to apologize. Not her though. Actually it gets worse because her spirit is sent to the tree of life. And this one time she can be revived but they're like nah nobody wants you so you'll be reincated as an amnesiac ghost pokemon.

And the fact they are pokemon that mature quickly and have strange customs adds to the sympathy of the character struggling in an alien world, I think. Too many isekai stories have no real business being an isekai. Often the character is an amnesiac with no attachments making it nearly pointless.

If you mean why they went so hard on a PMD fanfic of all things? Idk. But I'm glad they did cuz I love PMD. The overall story uses worldbuilding, lore, and pokemon in a clever way. I also like body dysmorphia. It's very underrated and a guilty pleasure.

Also if anyone read and remembers this 7 year old fanfic, I have one plot related question that I feel is left unanswered or I somehow missed:
Why does Prisma contact her daughter Tessa through dreams in the early chapters? I know Necrozma was messing with Shane's dreams, pretending to be Solgaleo, but I think that was the real Prisma in Tessa's dreams. I want to believe that somehow Prisma felt lonely before getting further corrupted and genuinely reached out to Tessa, but it's also possible she was just keeping tabs on her. Not sure. She also warns her about hanging out with Vulpix even though she shouldn't know much about him at this point, so maybe it was Necrozma? I just don't see the point. I like to think this wasn't an oversight since the author has been pretty good about foreshadowing. I genuinely want to think there's a slight good side to Prisma but the author kinda shits on her and everyone in the comments just thinks she deserves it. I might ask this question there but I doubt the author will answer.

I didn't know this was a thing. I do like misery a lot if it's contained in the beginning, but I like to see characters pull through and get happy endings. I don't want cuck shit. Anyways I've read a few non-PMD isekais and some anime but none of them seemed miserable. Usually the protag just gets a lot of busted "magic and stats and abilities" from the get-go. LNs like Mushoku Tensei and Overlord are okay but it's the same shit with an overpowered character. It's not misery, just wish fulfillment. I like that stuff too but lately I've been searching for more "misery" stuff yeah. In PMD you are generally average strength and need to rely on partners. I like that.

Pokemon are cool but the mainline is trubbish. Not just the games. The world makes no sense. Yeah, kids participating in professional cockfighting and the creatures love being beaten senseless. Never was much of a fan. It wasn't until recent years that I got into PMD and fell in love with this franchise. An actual society with only monsters and you get to be one. If there was a world I could live in, it would be PMD. Honestly it doesn't even have to rely on being an isekai to be good.

I should start playing some of the fan games. There's a lot on OP's list, holy fuck. But I find myself more enamored with the story and world rather than the actual gameplay. The gameplay is just decent. Roguelikes are cool, but the dungeons themselves feel too basic and it's easy to cheese with items.

I also read a ton more stories, all of which I enjoyed!

Sceptile-anon's comics are top-tier, with really great battle sequences and the personalities of all the characters being presented so well! Some of my favorite moments were Sara's reactions to Jung, especially the one after he fought the Aggron.

I enjoyed Rain and Cory's story too! They had such a fun dynamic and the art was, as usual, amazing. I especially fell in love with Cory's character and I'm fairly certain d'Alin will too so I hope to read more of he and Rain in the future!

Kiyo-anon's story was the other one I had finished up, and I was thoroughly impressed how well-written everything is. The first two stories did an incredible job at introducing the Three Strangers to the guild and interacting with characters. Rock the Boat was probably one of my favorite I've read in general. I found myself at the edge of my seat even though I knew the outcome as it was a prequel. I also loved Bean's little bouts of philosophy throughout lol

I read the first paragraph under the spoiler and even became intrigued, not many authors could write "unhappy" isekais, but the further I read, the more my interest turned into disgust. I'll give props to "unhappy ending" with no redemtion, but otherwise after zombie shit it becomes so comically edgy with all that "revenge on the gods" it turns into funny. I agree she's wrong. She was completely irrational. But that's sort of what's real about it. Real life people don't act rationally. She was dumb and hid the truth of her human identity to her partner out of fear she would be abandoned or roped into some human messiah quest. She could have still treated her poke children with kindness even if her full heart wasn't behind it.

I fibbed a bit about having no chances for redemption. In her final scene as a spirit she talks to her dead spouse. But instead of reflecting, she pretty much whines that she'll never go back to the human world and she never wanted to have HIS children. I hate that scene so much because it cements her as an eternal douchebag. She could have said she was literally possessed and in her last moments regrets having a total meltdown after his death and abandoning her post. The whole schtick about slaying gods is a bit silly but again, she was possessed. Necrozma wanted to kill the gods more than she did, but her interest aligned somewhat.

I was binge reading for several days hoping she would turn to the light in the end. She's not just some cliche disney evil stepmother. She's the main character's own mother and there was a lot of emotional buildup and turmoil over killing her. Imagine living with the knowledge that your mother considered you a mistake and failure, never admitting to the end that she was wrong. Memories of her treating you warmly as a kid. She tries to train you as you get older, but grows impatient and start berating and belittling you. She disappears on you after your dad dies, then returns to kill you. It was really sad and pitiful. I know it's supposed to be more sad for the child but I can't help pity the mother and I find her back story way more interesting than the main human protag. It would have been an easy positive note to end on if she only apologized but I guess the author wanted to leave that avenue as a haunting and bittersweet ending.

I don't think it's radical. The events in the story are mostly canon from the games. You even get teamups from past human partners and explorers. The reason it's a bit mature is because it mostly focuses on the aftermath of past games and emotional stress (and romance lol) of the characters. You can feel how exhausted they get from traveling and battling all day. I think the games address it a little but definitely not as detailed. Especially post game. Yeah peace is magically restored but these heroes have war flashbacks from being turned into stone and sent to hell (canon btw). That's not made up. I don't think it's loony tunes turned turned tim burton or something (not that I would mind anyway. People can take interesting departures if they want).


Anyways if you got more edgy depressing pmd content for me, let me know. GL isn't a perfect fanfic. I just thought the mom's story was unique and sad. Maybe cuz I don't read enough. I read this one a while back. Overall I really liked it. I think my only real issue with it was that fight scenes dragged on a bit too much by the end. Too many of them and each one felt too long. But it could be worse.

I'm possibly the only one, but I actually have zero interest in the isekai aspect of the series. I don't want to be a pokemon and I don't really care to explore the complexities of the concept all that much.
I'm interested in the PMD universe itself and how a society like that would actually function. So many wildly different species somehow managing to live in human-style settlements and cities, which would have to be built to accommodate everything from a mouse to a snake to a beetle to a dragon.
Almost every creature has a seemingly equal "person" status, not including wild dungeon Pokemon.

They've developed complex architecture and large scale farming, but cannot ever have something like animal domestication. Civilized society is likely almost entirely vegan, but many "animal" based products like dairy, eggs and honey are likely still sold and consumed. Some citizens just produce it naturally and nobody questions it.

There's so many things a native born PMD Pokemon would be fine with that a human would consider weird.
Somewhere out there, a Pupitar and a Raticate are having a friendly chat about what they had for dinner. The Raticate had berries and a cupcake. The Pupitar had half a ton of copper ore and a boiled candy for dessert. This is completely normal to them.

But seriously from a writing perspective, I usually start with typing tied to personality archetypes. I think stuff like ghost = prankster, psychic = empath/mind-reader, fire = energetic, dark = lonely, etc. You don't have to follow that strictly however.

Abilities. Can they fly? Can they dig? Can they swim? Certain types are limited to certain actions.

Environment. If you live on an icy mountain then perhaps you should be an ice or fire type (I don't know why fire types are sometimes written as 'weak' to the cold. Shouldn't it be the opposite?).

Physical traits. Bipedal or quadruped? Wings? Tail? Big? Small? Fluffy? Hard? This is also tied to ability, but I like certain anthros for their expressiveness. A pokemon who has ears that perk up when excited or fold down when shy. A pokemon whose tail has a mind of its own (maybe literally, like a girafarig or mawile whose tail involuntarily speaks the owner's thoughts)

For a more "fish out of water" story, you could pick the opposite of a suitable typing. An ice type stuck in a desert or something. Or a pokemon with no limbs. Or an ironic water type who is afraid of swimming.

And I narrow it down to ones that aesthetically look appealing to me.

Personally I like the idea of Super's recruitment more than other games as the whole "catch them all" concept never really felt like it belonged in PMD to me, but it still has its flaws. It's obviously much less to do than actually trying to catch everyone pokemon in one of the other games
Otherwise I'm not sure what you really mean by endgame. If you mean like post-post-game I think all of them fall flat unless you really like stuff like level 1 challenge dungeons, but at that point I'd just play a rogue-like instead. For better or worse, I think the best part of the games is the journey
If you mean just normal post game stuff probably explorers? I don't even remember what happened in Super, and RT's story kind of just ends outside of pointing you towards a bunch dungeons with legendary pokemon if I remember right
