Are slabs ruining the market?
>still buying modern
>still grading cards
>still swiping pic-a-nic baskets

I hope Prismatic Evolutions gets the Crown Zenith treatment so all the retards that bought 150$ etbs kill themselves
I spent another 230$
>>57074893On what?
>>57075060200 copies of the shit eating larvitar from obsidian flames
>>57075117k-kino...
Does anyone else think slabs are ruining the hobby?
>>57075367How?
Where the fuck is the japanese version of this???
>>57075409English exclusive pls understand. Wouldn't even be the first time either.
>>57075400Artificially Inflated value
>>57075549So buy raw then, how are they ruining the hobby?
>>57075367not necessarilyI understand slabbing cards that have few 9 and 10s rawBut it is annoying when dumb people slab average modern cards, plus it does reflect a shitty MUH INVESTMENT mentalityAt least Pokemon hasn't gone full sports cards retard yet where people slab like 95% of cards
>>57074366New tribute targets soon. What a time to be alive.
>>57075670We're getting there soon though especially with the prevalence of slabbing modern cards and then asking for ridiculous prices for them
I learned my lesson, no more prerelease boxes for me, a booster box would have been better.posting again as last one was during bump limit
Slabs just kind of feel like nfts
I'm seeing S&V 151 tins in some shops again, did some UK warehouse out there found a few pallets of this stuff by accident? I bought for the retail price, but it's 3x on eBay.
General seems dead all of a sudden. What happened?
>>57076799Oh and the holo stars on the Charizard are from the sleeve, didn't know they make them like this.
Bought a box of Terastal Festival. What am I in for?
wtf happened here?
>>57076471Where have you seen them? Sadly where I live there's a decent autistic community so I'm unlikely to nab anything that pops up if it's common knowledge.
>>57076866probably Deep Pocket Monster's most recent Gengar collecting video
>>57076837Fun.
why is this card game so fucking expensive?
>still buying vintage
>still not buying in the native language of the franchise
>>57076990It's not you're just poor.
Just pulled from 1 build and battle stadium. I'm glad they got rid of rainbow rares
What's the oldest set still sold in stores today? I randomly found a double pack of chilling reign in a local grocery store today
>>57077389probably that. the oldest thing i've seen in a store is BS lol.
>>57075367Card grading has it's uses. It is a very good way to have a middle man that can verify card condition to allow for smoother online transactions.Unfortunately that is not what it it being used for and the hype around high grades is both retarded and harmful to the hobby as a whole, yes. It artificially inflates prices which heavily incentivizes card grading which significantly reduces ungraded card availability.
>>57077444>card grading which significantly reduces ungraded card availabilityI doubt that, I would bet your life on it.
>>57076979How rare are the god packs? I'm not expecting one from mine, but the SAR I want the most is that Eevee ex with the cake in the background.
>>57077178the real reason to buy japanese cards is that the back of the card looks so much niceronce you notice that the pokeball on the back of english cards opens the wrong way, you're just never the same after that
>>57077519>opens the wrong waythat's the whole point of this game, TPC ruined it when they changed back designs
>>57077526>that's the whole point of this gamewhat?
>>57077526This might be the most retarded take I've ever heard.
>>57077444trips of retardation. ~10% of cards probably get graded if even.
>>57077581>>57077531surely you guys play pocket as well?
Found bubble mew for <$100. Should I do it, /vp/? I hate this fucking hobby but I love Mew.
>>57076866Sellers sold some copies to their own proxies for ten times the market value in the hopes that someone will buy it when they immediately relist it. It's been happening a lot with prize series cards because they're so low in supply.
>>57078978I should simply buy some prize ace specs then, haven't been able to go play for packs :(
>>57078729Buy it and resell to me for 50$ please
>>57077909It's even better
What was The Pokemon Company's intention when they designed this specific card? What did Kariya want to convey with this particular illustration?
>>57079617no clue.....
>finished browsing all the promo sets released from XY to SV>I now have at least 40 more cards in my list that I will never ever have the money to buyThis hobby is soul crushing.
>my 90$ card hasn’t arrived yetI hope it doesn’t get lost with all the Christmas mail
Bros is the reprint for japanese 151 already in place or is it for jan-feb?When can I expect prices for SAR singles to tank?
>>57080155I sympathize, I got $300 worth of cards stuck in the mail because of the postal strike hereWhat card are you waiting on?
What's the most you have ever spent on Pokemon in a month anons?3000$ for me
>>57080614The month is not over yet, but I'm at 1000€.And I'm still looking at another 900€ worth of cards in my wishlist.
>Shipped (Untracked)
haha time for disappointment
>>57080831I've been happy with PF pulls, even if I don't love most of the SV era mons.
>>57080614i spent $1000 on singles and $500 on sealed last month
>>57080209Full metal Dialga. I might have overpaid it but it doesn’t matter, it’s been 10 years since the release of Phantom Forces and that was the card I wanted the most. I had to give some closure to this story. What about you, what cards did you purchase? How long have you been waiting Canada-anon?
>>57081140>he didn't buy when it was $80 before it got shilled by Poketubers
>>57081195I love that card so much. Thank you for the beautiful picture anon.
Collected as a kid like it was a religion. Had multiple complete sets all from just buying countless boosters, though seems these days people go for some boosters then stop and finish out with singles.Want to get back into it. I know. Me and everyone else apparently.Feeling overwhelmed and don't know where to start. Theres so much now, feels like things move so fast that every place I visit, seems to always be sold out.Everything online seems to be information for bulk buyers and resellers of sealed boxes/cards.tl;dr getting back into tcgs like everyone else in the world. Whats a good place to start?
>>57080752>Paid
>>57081433There's way more cards per set now. Look at Pokecollector for cards you like and maybe start there. One bit of advice I would give is don't go overboard on Elite Trainer Boxes all the time, they give you loads of stuff you might not want or need (sleeves, energy cards etc.) and you'll be better off just getting cards in other ways
>>57081764>don't go overboard on Elite Trainer BoxesThanks. Might just snag one or two.Do most just buy booster boxes?Whats a reputable online site? I know recently tampering with boosters and resealing/reselling them has been an issue, and I'd rather not come across that, especially since some of the ones I was thinking of picking up are a year or two old now and in somewhat high demand.

>>57081140>what cards did you purchase?A ton of shit, like the silver tempest Blaziken Vmax (not the alt art) in JP and english, the Golisopod Ex SIR and the Duskull/Dusclops/Dusknoir full art cycles from Shrouded Fable and a bunch of other stuffSome I should have received a month ago, and I don't expect to get some until mid-january at the earliest even though I ordered them in November Hope you get get your card soon anon, it's a super nice one

so is everything from sword/shield onwards going to be worthless?
>>57085285yes but only in T W O W E E K S
>>57085285yes but only your cards
>>57085285no? why the hell would that happen. I'd argue SWSH/SV era be worth more than the shit from my childhood sadly (EX series through HGSS series)
Anyone buy on whatnot?
>>57085897whatnot on deez nuts nigga
>>57085897Why on earth would I pay for faggots to drive up the price of product even more by buying break slots?
Why are box breakers even a thing? HOW are they a thing?
>>57086114because morons pay 3x the going rate for a single pack
>>57086130it's like those dumb pokerev mystery packs, they're not different to those mystery power box things you used to get except they're even more marked up. People will spend thousands in the hopes of a vintage pack when they could buy a few for that money kek
>>57084867I hope his wife divorces him and takes the house.
i bought from a rip and shipper once and their price was below retail. turns out that was not normal.
>>57083245Damn what a very frustrating situation and the fact that you can’t order anything in that span of time since it’s going to get stuck at the post office. You picked a good choice of cards, especially the Dusknoir line. Turner’s artwork is very hit or miss but he nailed those three.I hope your cards will arrive safely.
i hate that this hobby got hijacked by investorfags. i started buying yugioh cards again and that market is completely fixed as all the investards left.
>>57086410Pokemon is just too popular. Just look how much Pocket made despite being a pure rng game. Not only that but they keep shitting cards that are impossible to obtain to create an artificially ultra expensive card. They know it’s going to attract investorfags. It’s over for us.
>>57086493>>57086410SV up until Paradox Rift was dabbing on the investors quite hard with pull rates being a lot better across the board, I guess someone within TPCi must be benefitting from scalpers and upsellers though as they immediately returned to their old ways after that set and now we're back to bull market shit. Maybe give it 5 or so years and if we're lucky we'll be back to a Gen 3-5 situation where Pokemon is still big but not this massive phenomenon.
>>57085894too much supply
Eurobros using cardmarket, help a paranoid anon: is it good only for expensive singles? I feel like any card below 30€ is better off ebay because the shipping costs are so high between different countries and it's extremely difficult to find a seller from your country, with good rating, selling more than one of the cards you need at a time, in NM condition and with photos. If I buy from multiple sellers across Europe I end up spending tens of € in shipping costs. Also how's the customer service in case of things such as cards arriving in a worse condition than advertised? I saw a photo of a card sold as "Excellent" and it was fucking bent in two. Are there a lot of scammers compared to ebay?
>>57086520Where do you live that you cannot find any sellers from your country?
>>57086508These Switch Pokemon games have sold gangbusters though, in 10 years there will be a lot of nostalgia and these cards will no longer be in print. Pokemon has become a self-sustaining money printing machine now, I see where that anon is coming from; in 2034 people will care about EX era stuff purely because it's old, there won't be any nostalgia or relevance for that stuff amongst the youngins (i.e., the primary target demo).
>>57086410>i started buying yugioh cards again and that market is completely fixed as all the investards left. Were they ever there to begin with?
I was just thinking, how do you think they'll handle full art (not art/illustration rares) versions of owner's pokemon? Do you expect them to be like regular full arts but with that dumbass character icon on the side or do you think they'll feature the trainer alongside the pokemon in the art itself?
>>57086528I can find them, but they are not always the cheapest ones so I have to spend more for the card in order to save on the shipping, or viceversa.
>>57086572No FAs, which is a good thing.
>>57086546basically this, unfortunately i have to face the reality that my childhood constituted the weakest and smallest part of the history of pokemon and today's children (SWSH and SV) are as massive of a consumer base as the original pokemania rbg one was.
>>57086594Yeah given the average age of /vp/ (this is one of the most underage boards iirc), I genuinely believe that it is mostly Kalosperm and later gen kids on here which is a sobering thought. I just wish the prices of gen 3-5 stuff reflected the comparatively lower demand, I opened BW stuff earlier this year but I paid way too much. I remember when I bought 5 packs of Plasma Blast in 2017 for 20$, shit sucks man.
>>57086572>>57086579Is no FAs confirmed? I wish, please just get rid of FAs now, they have run their course.
>>57086551believe it or not, yes. would have to take my word for it as i imagine you have 0 knowledge on yugioh and would take too long to explain.
>>57086614personally I doubt the prices are that inflated, you probably just don't have a scope for how underprinted gen 3-5 stuff was, especially 3. and 5 had some really awful quality control too. Maybe things could have been a bit cheaper if the big breakout of prices being way too high in 2021 was a few years earlier, but regardless I just think the big reason for high prices is low supply.
>>57086627Yeah maybe, I regret only being able to get a few packs here and there during BW. It wasn't until the end of XY that I was able to buy my own stuff regularly, which unfortunately coincided with the first big spike in Pokemon's popularity thanks to Go.
>>57086579>No FAsYou think so? I'd assume Terastal Festival was just the exception, not the new norm going forward, since its a special set and all.
>>57086619>i imagine you have 0 knowledge on yugiohI don't, which is why I'm confused. I'm aware Konami has a really aggressive reprint policy with it and cards that get banned pretty much tank in value instantly. So what was there to invest in besides chase rarities like Ghost Rares and Starlight Rares and such?
>>57086520>that ceruledge cant decide if i should pick it up in japanese or English, the latter is already going for over $30
>>57086102Where should I buy then
>>57076799I'm just waiting for my cards to arrive, man
>>57076799the bubble finally burstit's over, pokemon is done
>>57075367I'm always surprised when TCG grading doesn't get the same heat that retro game grading does, they're both equally retarded in my opinion.
>>57086986i can't really see them as remotely similar.
>>57086410It's gotta be hard to be an investor in yugioh when they re-print the same blue eyes card 38 times a year
>>57086410is it thoughevery meta deck there is 700$ minimum
>>57086986>they're both equally retarded in my opinion. Not really, with trading cards yes, they're game pieces but it's not difficult to get multiple copies of a card, so setting one copy of your favorite or a chase rarity variant to get graded isn't that strange, since you can still enjoy it for the art. With a graded video game, yeah its retarded because the one purpose of it is to be played, which you can't even do once its in a slab.
>>57086986Nah, game grading is really retarded because you're encasing a game in a plastic slab and you can't even then enjoy the game that you paid so much money for. It is actual hoarding with no other purpose. On the other hand, encasing a card in a PSA slab is also dumb but you aren't denying that card its intended purpose (which is to be oogled at) unless you were hoping to use it in the TCG, which you're not really going to do if it's something mega old and/or out of rotation. My hill to die on is that sealed collecting is dumb as fuck because packs are meant to be opened, but this is an investors game now, people like me are seen as the ultimate retards
>>57087082>>57087123>What is emulation?
>go for japanese cards>a lot of them can be found for way cheaper than englishyay>except for some special ones that were given as promos in english while in japanese they cost $1000AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Is southern islands a good investment?
How do I get over my fear of these cards tanking In value? I passed up on the Carmine when It was $100 so I'm already up. I don't plan on ever selling them either but I hope they atleast never go below $50
>>57087258Idk, get them in Japanese if you're that worried about it. The nips will value their waifu cards way more than the western market ever will.
>>57087156Not that specific copy in a slab is what it is.
>>57087258Waifufaggots should be hanged and shot while hanging for good measure,
>>57087201the japs still haven't gotten the shrouded fable promos btw
>>57087258virtually nobody is opening twm or pef now tera festival is herei dont think they will shoot up, but are probably at a baseline

>wanted to check out some cool cards I could buy after decades>get like a gorillion YT video suggestions of "BRO YOU HAVE TO INVEST IN THESE SETS!"wtf is with these retads, actually seeing a fucking children's trading card game as "investment"? can't wait for them those fuck to lose half of their "stocks" when that bubble bursts

>grading is le goodAckhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqocimvkUNM
Perhaps a bit offtopic but I've been on a thing recently where I've been putting on PrimetimePokemon videos in the background while I work and it got me nostalgic for old 'poketubers' like him, slayerofmca, etc. and just the old state of the more autistic but sincere Pokemon fandom on YouTube in those days when it was mostly shitty gameplay vid, battles, Pokemon spriting and card openings (a lot of FCBM back then too I noticed).I looked at some of these modern tubers and man I feel bad for kids today, these guys are utterly soulless. PokeRev, CTR, etc., they're just in it for the money and are only contributing to the state of collecting being so bad across the board. These tryhards have inspired a whole army of clueless and depressed millenials to rip disgusting SwSh sets on camera en masse.Did any anons ITT ever upload Pokemon card content on YouTube back before in the day? We really had no idea how good we had things up until XY. Gatekeeping is necessary.
>>57092865>no insuranceThis guy is definitely in on it.Collectorfags vindicated. Imagine not only sending in your cards to be encased in an ugly plastic slab but also sending them into a YouTuber's grading service kekI'd say I feel bad for the suckers who got scammed by this dude but they had it coming honestlyMarket crash when
>>57092865Well he's getting sued surely?negligence
>>57092865hahahahaha oh no slabfags oh no no no no no
>>57092867back in the day pokemon cards were not as stupidly expensive as nowdays and it is still baffling to me seeing morons shelling over 100 bucks and more for singles, not even mentioning booster boxes to get just a few pretty cards among a sea of garbagehonestly I don't want to even think how much a competitive player has to expend no thanks to the stupid millenials faggots that artificlaly inflate prices and make expansions hard to get in the first place
>>57093046you labour under a misapprehension, basic versions of basically any card can be had for £30 or lessit's only alt arts and super rares that are expensive
>>57093046Competitive pokemon is the cheapest out all the major games by far. Sheerly due to how many cards there are in circulation and no one caring about anything other than alt arts
>>57092867>>57093046I can't help but to feel disgust for all those guys with their box opening videos and immediatelly shilling over the price of a particular card if they happen to pull it
>>57093075It's always the same shit all they care about is instantly trying to sell anything good they pull
>>57092865not clicking on this what happened
>>57093046pokemon players dont have to buy the expensive cards, the expensive cards are specifically just different prints of existing cards to seperate out players and collectors opposing interests.
>>57093139Someone "broke into" ace grading and stole peoples cards but conveniently left all the expensive electronic equipment there
>>57093153interesting. at least when the illegals at psa mess something up you're insured if you put your card in the right service lol.
>>57092879he said it's insured though?
>>57093454and who is going to determine the value of the cards? it is all artificial as hell
>>57093478how about the most used price guide site?yeah a few may be manipulated but oh well, tough titties for the insurance to pay, who cares about them anyways
>>57092867I used to have a YouTube channel during the XY era. One of my favorite things was a concept where a friend and I would open boosters in the dark wearing light torches (the ones you put on your forehead). Turning them off when it was time to see what was under the reverse for more suspense. It was a lot ouf fun but buying boosters was getting too expensive so I stopped. Picrel is from one of those videos set in private.Just like you I rewatched some old videos from Darkaufeu022 who was the best French Pokémon card YouTubers. He sold his collection years ago and I stumbled upon a tweet of his saying he regretted it. >feelsbadman. Our newer YouTubeurs are very obnoxious and greedy. They disgust me so much.
>>57093706post boba
>>57093706That sounds fun, I remember that guy Derrium's Pokemon and another channel where it was two guys (Pokemon Evolutionaries?) just chatting shit and ripping open packs, doing openings with friends back then was cool. It was mostly Pokemon fans too so you'd get a lot more meaningful commentary too beyond 'oh wow that centering is fucked' or 'this is a solid PSA 9" etc. People actually cared back then. And even if there are YouTubers who still care now, they're drowned out by the main influencers now. I actually get incredibly angry whenever their cringe basedjak thumbnails come up on my feed, it's physical repulsion and hatred for these cunts who ruined something I used to enjoy so much. Did you ever have any really cool pulls back then? I also had a channel where I opened XY stuff, my best pull was probably pic related>He sold his collection years ago and I stumbled upon a tweet of his saying he regretted it.Him and me both, more than the monetary value it was just a dumb decision by a retarded teenager
All that kino artwork... shoved in the digital trash...
>>57092865I actually watch this guy. Fucking kek
also showing scams in grading world isn't really an argument against the concept of grading. I like graded cards because they're protected and verified legitimate and in great condition. if I think a specific slab is incorrectly graded I don't buy it. it's that simple.
>>57094418Pocket won.
>>57094418>>57074115
>>57094693Won what exactly
>>57093887Something that’s been bothering me about most openings is that the commons are barely looked at when they’ve got lovely art. Also, since I heard someone say that those influencers have a face that makes them look like they’ve been surprise sodomised I can’t see anything else.My best pull definitely is the secret Rayquaza from a Japanese Bandit Ring display. That was the card I wanted the most from the set.Megas were really cool with the attack text. 5ban used to be good at designing full arts. I hope they make a comeback someday. That’s painful. Did you try to buy back some cards you had in your old collection afterwards?
I have some vintage cards that I want to get graded. What company is best to go through to get the highest grade possible? They are in good condition but I'm sure they won't be 10, every vintage card seems to have a little bit of wear around the edges
>>57094786psa is the standard because its the most used and most sold, beckett is what people throw literal perfect cards at to get a black label 10 (which has a premium over psa 10), and CGC exists also i guess.
>>57094418if pokemon go can get a fucking set im pretty sure tcg pocket can get a set

>>57095336unite has tencent issuesnot sure about sleep, but that's newish
>>57094781>makes them look like they’ve been surprise sodomisedkekI've considered buying heavy XY packs lately to try and pull something like pic related, it's obviously very irresponsible but it's hard to resist the temptationSome people find the Mega EXs (regular and FA) too busy with the katakana but I absolutely love that aesthetic. On the topic of selling my collection, I did manage to buy back old Mega EXs I had like the Mega Mewtwo X from Breakthrough and M Pidgeot, but I was lucky to open XY stuff when I got back into collecting again and have since acquired a bunch of Mega EX FAs from Steam Siege + a M Glalie EX from Breakthrough too. 5ban peaked in XY in my opinion, the texturing really helped their designs. The only card of theres I've liked since maybe a Ho-oh they did in SM was their Porygon from 151 recently.

>>57095459That’s nice you were able to buy some cards back I can’t say the same about my first collection which I gave away that contained old exs and gold stars>mega Mewtwo x full art Hey I have this card too.True, the texturing helps and the fact that there were less full arts by set + most of them were for cool Pokémon + they had interesting background. Mass produced full arts in Sun and Moon was a bad choice, they feel very lazy and stiff (not a fan of the GX borders neither).About XY packs, I have kept a few from that time for memories. I need to buy a scale and see if some are worth opening. What’s your favorite set from XY?
>>57098430>contained old exs and gold starsI'm so sorry for your loss anonYeah I think FAs peaked with the XY era, like you said you get some crazy backgrounds and the renders would always be very dynamic. Compared to SM where the texturing was good but toned down, those SM full arts had no interesting background and the renders started getting a lot stiffer like you said. I thought I disliked GX when I sold my collection but after amassing a few recently, I think I didn't appreciate them enough at the time. Especially Tag Team GX, those were pretty fun.>I need to buy a scale and see if some are worth opening.Post pullsMy favourite set is Breakpoint 100%, it has the best selection of EXs (both regular and FA) alongside BREAK cards meaning that you can still get a 'hit' out of green code card packs. That and it has some of my favourite artwork in the TCG such as pic related What about you anon?
>>57098478>>57098430But you know what? Every once in a while there is an outlier. I generally write off the modern full art cards but for some reason this Black Kyurem from Surging Sparks actually looks really coolAlmost tempted to buy a single of it even
>>57098484texture does a lot for the CG FAs
>>57098478>>57098484Yes! It’s a great full art. The regular Black Kyurem ex by kawayoo is very nice too. I’m glad exs are back. Regular GXs and Vs looking like full arts except for 1 cm on the bottom made them look very confusing to me.>tag teamsYeah that was a cool concept with lovely art. The Magicarp and Wailord one is fun.I am biased towards Sun and Moon though: too many ultras and of the same species in one set, Rainbow cards ad nauseam when they’ve got the same art as the regular full art… it felt like TPCi was voluntary sabotaging the possibility of collecting all the cards for the set without paying for singles.>green code cardsWhoa I didn’t know it was a thing. The two secret Mewtwo from Breakpoint are very cool. XY had a nice roster of secret cards overall, my favorites being the red Gyrados, mega black fug and full metal Dialga.Mine would be Phantom Forces. I like the Halloween candy theme that shared some illustrations.
>>57098907My apologies, I mistook Breakpoint with Breakthrough.

>>57099248Just wait until the investor retards all move to prismatic evolutions next month
>>57098907>>57098929I pulled that Mewtwo EX secret rare from Breakthrough a few days ago kekI think the two Break sets were very good, I think Breakthrough was a lot like Flashfire in that it was good for fans of Mewtwo (like that was for fans of Charizard) but Breakthrough also has BREAKs, making the pull rates more generous and the selection of 'pulls' larger. I know BREAKs are not everyone's cup of tea but I am personally quite a fan of how weird they are. >The regular Black Kyurem ex by kawayoo is very nice tooI also pulled a Zoroark by Kawayoo from Breakthrough too, I didn't realise he has been active for so long. I am a big fan of his half-art exs in the SV series, I fully agree with you on ex; I like GX now but they deviated too much from the idea of half-art ultra rares, and then Vs went even further and also looked ugly to boot. When I started buying packs again in 2022 I was quite confused about what the difference actually was between V, VMax and alt art cards for the same reason as you.>Rainbow cards ad nauseam Yeah, this is very true. It felt like sets were a lot more completable up until Steam Siege, and a card being secret actually meant something. Now for any given set you get at least 30 'secret' cards on top of the normal set list, which devalues the whole concept in my mind. >red Gyrados>full metal DialgaThese are some of my favourites too, they really experimented a lot with secrets in XY too. They started of more similar to the BW secrets with golden borders, then they went to those psuedo-alt arts from Breakpoint onwards.Phantom Forces is a great set but it just sucks how expensive it is now. I hope the market crashes and this older stuff gets a little cheaper. PrimetimePokemon used to open really old booster boxes on his channel and those boxes cost like $600 at the most (for Base Set).
>>57099248save your money for Journey Together and Team Rocket next year anonAvoid the gay tera stuff, you'll be glad

>>57100535I love that card, pulled it in a pack as a kid.
>>57100750Oh I forgot it's in the Rocket section of my binder.
>>57099502Congrats for the Mewtwo. It does look like a proto tag team now that I think of it.It must be nice to open older stuff. So, you do buy XY booster packs or did you already have them from back in the time?Break cards have a strange status but I see them as some sort of bonus since they took the reverse spot not the rare. Like you said, it meant you had better chances to pull something cool. You could even be extra lucky and get two ultras in the same booster.>kawayoo That’s nice to see he’s among the TCG illustrators that have stuck around for years. How shading is wonderful and instantly recognizable.>BWI sadly didn’t open much of it but yes the shiny secrets are some of the best cards along with the full arts of course. I don’t care much about zard cards but I must say I like a lot how the shiny secret one has a blue tint.I had a conspiracy theory about Phantom Forces where I was convinced Dialga could only get pulled from Diancie boosters. Almost all of those whom I saw getting it on YouTube pulled it from those packs. I’d only buy Diancie packs after this discovery heh.

>>57100557The one in that image was used in japanese cards since the inception. For base set the American ones used a starfoil which was lame until they switched to the Japanese ones in Team Rocket. They used it until Black and white which introduced the ugly lines and it has been a shitshow ever since.>https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Holofoil
>>57097700Not sets of nothing but art rares.
>These faggots are ruining my good time.
>>57100535No it won't because they're gonna be Rocket's pokemon, not dark pokemon.
>>57100860Thanks! It was a weird feeling, Breakthrough can be weighed pretty easily so nice to buy off a trustworthy seller. Yeah Breaks are strange for sure, I personally prefer their look in English with the yellow borders and enjoy my collection, I could see them getting somewhat cult status in the future since they were so out of the left field. So I used to work as an IT consultant and saved up a lot of money, then I quit that job and am currently a NEET for a few months, so I decided to indulge a bit and buy some old packs. I had some stuff in the attic from back in the day but I got through that stuff pretty quick, the best I got was a few regular EX cards from Primal Clash and Steam Siege like Camerupt and Magearna. I never really managed to get a BREAK and other ultra in the same pack back in the day but like you said, it's cool that the possibility even existed, and I honestly much prefer the look of cards from that era so I'm happy to open that stuff even if it means a loss. Not for long though, as soon I'll be back in the workforce and will have to make do with current stuff, hoping to get a few boxes of the Journey Together and Rocket sets in JapaneseThere are a lot of great artists who have stuck around in the TCG in my opinion, like Masakazu Fukuda and of course Mitsuhiro Arita, it would be a difficult task to assemble a binder of either's work given the former's work on the gold star cards and Arita having illustrated a metric fuckton of cards from Base Set to now. >shiny secretsI'm with you, I'm not a Zard fan but that card from the Plasma sets is so cool, I'd be tempted to buy a few as singles since the market hasn't gotten crazy for them yet like it has for gold stars. Go buy some Diancie packs anon! Godspeed kek, hope you manage to pull a full metal Dialga someday

>>57101258>just noticed 5ban worked on Break cardsThey did a good job here too. Very nice, enjoy your NEET break from work and those booster openings as long as they are affordable and you’re having fun.I’m also looking forward to those two sets. Dark Pokémon lead to interesting illustrations so there’s a lot of potential. I like when there’s some sort of theme throughout a set.Though I fear they might create a return of the card hype and rise the market prices again which would not be good at all. Well it’s already happening with Terrastal Festival.Heh thanks anon, I’ll already be happy if the Japanese one I bought a week ago arrives safely home.Picrel is not from a Rocket set but since TPCi has been experimenting with different reverse types recently, that’d be cool if they tried this effect again.

>>57103582>>57104123I haven't really bothered to really check for some reason, but is there honestly a THIRD fucking variant of cards now? Normal, reverse holo, and masterball reverse holo?
>>571023095ban were really at their peak from BW to XY, love those shiny secrets. Maybe I'll find a copy of that Blastoise that isn't MP/LP on eBay someday. Thanks! I will give it a rest for a while, would consider starting a YouTube channel for these openings, I record the stuff I open right now on my phone just to capture the experience but the idea of being a TCG tuber feels wrong to me unless I start playing the game and investing time into all facets of it beyond collectingPic related is the kind of dark artwork I'd love to see, the EX era Dark and Rocket's Pokemon were so cool, I have a beat-up Rocket's Raikou ex from back in the day and I love it. Hope your card arrives safely!Honestly it this point any reverse pattern would beat the reverse holos we've been getting since Sword and Shield, they suck so bad. I don't even mind the patterns on them, it's just that the holo is so dull, with dark types you can barely even tell they're holo for example. I am praying the market doesn't return to the dark ages of the COVID period, I like being able to get Japanese boxes for a similar price to what they used to be in 2016-2017.
>>57104157Yes, I'm glad I skipped reverse holos from the very beginning because I prefer regular holos. Now finishing an entire set of C+NC+holos takes me way less money than a single reverse of a chase pokemon (pika, eeveelutions, etc.)
>>57104123master ball eeveelutions are rarer than the FAs
Buying a single card for more than 100$ feels wrong. On the other hand buying a lot of 30-50$ cards and ending up spending way more than 100$ is perfectly fine and reasonable.

>>57104729I hate this card because it breaks my autism for my Kanto AR binder. I temporarily included regional forms of dugtrio, tauros, exeggutor and growlithe because they are close enough, but this gay faggot unicorn is completely different. And it's fucking expensive too.

>>57104194Good luck in your chase for the Blastoise. It’s one of the best BW shiny secrets you can get since it has that nice golden border. Never understood why Exeggcute was in there nor why they cucked Venusaur from having one but I appreciate the variety between gen 5 poke and older ones.>but the idea of being a TCG tuber feels wrong to me unless I start playing the game and investing time into all facets of it beyond collectingMost TCG youtubers haven’t played the game to be fair, you’ll be fine. You can always give it a shot. Worst thing that can happen is that you don’t make many views, but from my experience the card opening scene was pretty chill when you were a small channel.>Dark and Rocket's Pokemon were so coolDefinitely, I still can’t believe they’re making a new set after all these years. You can see that older sets allowed more freedom in their Pokémon depictions which is why you get evil looking ones or some looking off model (like the Jungle Vaporeon). I like their Light counterparts a lot too. Neo sets are so comfy.>reverse holos [..] suck so badAnd still it’s not as much as regular holos. I miss the cosmos holo foil. They used to be something something you looked forward to.>dark ages of the COVID period Thank God I wasn’t around at that time, it must have been a nightmare.
