I like to imagine it's less the pokeballs and more a combinations of two things: the fact that something as "weak" as a pokeball is being used to "restrain" them, and the fact that they're being "restrained" in the first place.
Using the red chains circumvents the first aspect for the most part, but the second aspect isn't one that can be circumvented since anything that's being restrained is inherently a lesser expression of its true self. The natural themes of the pokemon world are ones of partnership, not exploitation, so going against this in any way is an act of self sabotage.

I know that all of this barely relates to the thread, but I have to wonder if the current administration at TPC and Game Freak even knows what fans want. In between this and what Sugimori said about the anime and the scrapped movie, it feels like they're trying to stay on good terms with everyone while not delivering a satisfying product (or story for that matter) at the same time.

I don't know. Like, Pokémon narrative has always been a mess, but these declarations would explain a lot when it comes to the current stories, especially the whole "isn't the bond between humans and Pokémon better?" shit. The games and anime have been a failure at balancing that shit with the human stories because one ends up weighing more than the other (see Arven, Team Star, Kieran, and hell, most of Horizons for examples), and it’s no wonder why, they’re trying to appeal to people who want Pokémon drama and people who want human drama at the same time without compromising, but they unconsciously compromise anyway.

It's a combination of a bunch of things. First, I didn't allow myself to start writing it until after I finished a different longfic, so I was really chomping at the bit to get it started and have been able to carry a good chunk of that enthusiasm on as the months have gone by. I'm almost ready to post chapter 29 desu, and I posted the first six back in June. My prose is definitely not to the most vivid and descriptive, but I do so much in other parts of the story I think it all works well enough. Around the time I finished the previous longfic I lost my full time job and have been working part-time since, which has given me a lot more time and flexibility. Sure I'm a lot poorer than I was before, but I'm unironically way happier (job was really draining). I'm not sure how long this situation will last or how tenable it is long term, but I'm taking advantage of it while I got it. But probably first and foremost is inspiration has just been hitting me like a truck. I've had nights where I'm out drinking with friends and something will hit me and I've gotta go to the bathroom to type shit out in my phone's Notes app for a few minutes. The anon who was saying you catch on to the real subtle stuff made me think you're gonna get a kick out of PoPT. There's a lot of little stuff that most people aren't picking up (or at least aren't saying they are). But no rush, it'll always be there.

This is what I don't get. Don't they understand what balance is? You can have a plot that doesn't involve overly cheesy and uncomfortable shit like teen suicide while also having a more complex characters than just "muh, Pikachu is my best friend, wife, brother." Even as a kid, I found it weird how Ash only seemed to be passionate about Pokemon. The Pokemon world, both in the anime and the games, is full of "my dog is my best friend who will never betray me" types of people. And it's not about trying to win over a certain portion of the fanbase anymore, even if you're in it for the battles and the cool mons, you also want to see storylines that have weight, nice action arcs and a bit of edgyness, as well as a romance thrown in here and there (things like the XY episode where Ash gets a fever represents that other extreme where you can alienate the kid audience/the people who are in it for the Pokemon). This just shows TPC's incompetence, maybe the games have improved in that aspect, where the characters feel like people, but Horizons is another example that they still don't have good writers who know how to balance Pokemon themes and human themes.

I don't know what the average level of an aurafag or psychic gets in most other fics, but I'd say she's formidable enough with the enhanced strength and speed from her suit to comfortably defeat mid-level Pokemon should the need arise - though its real strength is in the other tools it can provide like the hologram projectors she's modded in over the years. But she's more proficient as a trainer than a fighter, and is somewhere within Elite Four level.

She's also limited by the vulnerability of the suit. An attack from Chien-Pao was enough to mostly shred it and leave it at minimal effectiveness until she had time to make repairs.

Of all the humans who have appeared so far she's probably third most effective in hand to hand combat, behind Vi and Celot.

As for tips... yeah I got nothing. I suggest perhaps understanding fully what leads to the scene in question. After all, the road to the destination aught to make that stop worth it.
Consider all the buildup one could make for, say, a battle. Perhaps a losing streak or various explanations for who the antagonist is why the protagonist cannot lose.
For something regarding more psychological, which could easily intertwine with the fight, the Mc could think and think on the part of themselves they wish to avoid (cowardice, ineptitude, rage).
Make the lead up worth reading on its own.
