They didn't have as much time as you think. They had to have finalized the roster between May and November (the official unveiling of playable Tails, Rouge and Shadow was way later, and whatever letters Sega received was around the time of The.Trial, long before it was datamined). The only one I believe was Tails, since his and Eggman's gameplay style is internally called EGGMAN (the other two aren't names the character as far as I remember). I think it's likely that Tails replaced the 2P character Amy mid-development, judging by her presence in the story and leftover 1P/Chao data. Note that several levels even have Tails and Amy "together" or in proximity. The game was probavly going to emphasis speed levels most just like the first Sonic Adventure, then Amy and Tails were swapped and shooting level assets flipped around so that the theme could instead be a more even "three heroes vs three villains."

Security Hall filters shitters so bad. 5 minutes is unironically plenty of time like she says. Just go to the top of the map immediately and fuck with the switches to activate the vaults. It shouldn't take you any more than 3 minutes to get all 3 emeralds because the other two emeralds aren't even in the vaults.

Security Hall gives me negative vibes since I have a bad mandela effect on that level.
When I ran out of time in this level as a kid playing on Dreamcast, I distinctly recall Eggman saying to Rouge right before the timer fades you out: "You've SPOILED my plans! You...bi-!" When I played Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, I remarked that the line was censored so that Eggman no longer almost calls Rouge a bitch. Then I eventually played the Dreamcast original (separate copy) again, and the line was apparently never there. e

Most of the guys on the dream team had recognition in pop culture outside of basketball back then
>Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Clyde Drexler, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Christian Laettner, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson, and John Stockton.
Like as a kid who didn't ever watch basketball back then, I still knew over half these names plus Shaq and Kareem Abdul Jabbar (though he was already retired at that point).

Later on you'd get guys like Kobe Bryant or Lebron James who everybody knew.

The GC one is a completely different game. Xbox version is unique here while PS2 and GC are more similar (although PS2 version runs way better than GC)
>>
I always thought that Psychonauts was
an Xbox exclusive game, I dunno why. Maybe it's the whole green aesthetic of it. It just doesn't feel like a game that belongs on the PS2, like how Sly and Ratchet don't feel like they belong on Xbox.

Kiryu actually is in the Gamecube version - but only in Japan. The US got MechaGodzilla 2 instead. The Xbox version just has both characters in one game.

I went to con and wanted to have Shatner sign something so I picked one of my favorites, Star Trek Rites. Surprisingly NOBODY had even heard of this game, nobody in line (even the boomers), not the item handler, not even Shatner himself remembered it, even though he did the VA for TWO of these games in 90s.

I could've swore they were pretty popular in the 90s. Both Rites and 25th anniversary were successful enough for Interplay to commission full cast VA versions of each. Yet somehow they're forgotten now?

There’s probably still a lot of interest in adventure pnc games. The common denominator among all the replayable, fun ones is they have really great stories merged with solid gameplay. Idk if today’s industry is capable of storytelling like that anymore without a million consultants being involved and screwing it up.
>>
>>12485239
I remember them being well reviewed in the magazines and obviously the first one did well enough to get a sequel, but it's possible they just didn't reach a mainstream audience. Point n clicks were a bit of a niche genre even in their hey day.
>>
>>12485239
>not even Shatner himself remembered it
Dude is like 100 years old and has been doing kirk for like for like 60 of them, I'm sure there are alot of things slipping through the cracks.
>>
>>12486261
Thanks anon. Like you said the voice acting from the main crew is rough, especially with Nimoy's smoker voice and Deforest being a few years away from death.
I wonder if someday someone would be able to generate ai voice models of the cast sounding like they did during TOS and faithfully redub all the dialog. I wont hold my breath.
Ive been meanin to check out Final Unity but havent had the time to do so yet
>>
>>12486791
Shatner is remarkably sharp at an age when most who make it that far can’t remember basic things. My grandmother was just like him in that respect: frail but she could easily do longhand math and recall minute facts about random days 60 years prior. Would be great to have a memory like that.
>>12488189
>Final Unity
Definitely play it. It’s a wonderful game. Great story, the gameplay is solid except for ship combat (let worf and Geordi handle it), and I always had a blast solving the puzzles and piecing together the mysteries presented. The voice acting from the tng cast is also very good and energetic, advantaged by the fact the game was made just as tng was wrapping up, so everyone was at their peak. Probably worthy of being considered an official episode of the series.
>25th Anniversary redubbing
I’d be okay with this as long as it was well done, but honestly playing the game without VO dialogue always felt much more absorbing to me. Maybe it was a function of being a kid, but not having the voices somehow made me feel more involved in the adventure.

I'm surprise there aren't that many attempts to backport said new content into the SNES versions. DKC in particular has a ton of QoL improvements but it's worse in every other aspect.

Germany
Apparently Nintendo yet again kinda skipped over Europe at first and concentrated on America.
That was still when Pokemon was mostly just known as "That weird show that caused seizures in some kids". It was not yet that big hit.
I think it was RTL2, they had a weekly Anime night block where they would also air the latest Pokemon episode.
Of course when Pokemania hit it was also quickly rescheduled to the kids block.

Oh that'd explain it, yeah. I love this page from a UK video game magazine that was made after both America and Japan got hit by pokemania and it's just Brits seething because they don't have it. If memory serves, PAL regions got Smash Bros before they did an actual Pokemon game.
>>
>>12488237
in America, it was syndicated and had different airings depending on your region. Then it became a huge hit and kids WB bought it. Smartest thing the anime did was have the SS Anne episode be the first one. It shows off trading. It really roped kids into the concepts of pokemon right away.
>>
>>12488269

I actually care more about gameplay and presentation in a video game, and that's why I vastly prefer OoT.
>>
>>12477301
>The dungeons in MM sucked
Stone Tower Temple is debatably the best 3d Zelda dungeon there is.
The other 3 are all better than at least half of OoTs dungeons too. It's fair to say OoT is better for dungeons, but that also factors in quantity of dungeons
>>
>>12485927
>it was rushed
you keep pointing out the obvious but can't name an actual criticism, there are 4 dungeons because MM is a game focused on side-quests unlike its predecesor and that puts the game at equal length to Ocarina of Time.

As a kid I wasn't allowed to spend money on arcade machines because my parents thought it was a scam. They were right but it meant I was relegated to just watching the attract screen or other people playing. What I would do though is take my dad's window punch and crack screens, put superglue in coin slots, pour drinks in machines, draw all over the marquis and ruin them etc. Thank God for MAME.
