wide as an ocean, shallow as a pondgoing back to total war
>>2208757a toast!
>>2208783wide as an ocean, deep as an oceanWe won.
Lads we are actualy playing eu5!
I genuinely don't understand how the markets work. How do I know what to build to make the most money?
>>2208757>>2208784image limit hit me so I will use the image I wanted to attach initially
It's actually not bad wow
>form Europa>dynasty name changes to UniversalisVGH Johan, you've done it again...
>>2208789This, sometimes my economy swells and I get rich. In fact it did it while I was typing this post so I had to pause so I can try to find out why.
>>2208794let them occupy aquitaine, just defend calais and shit, pick off small armies until you get a good warscore, then whitepeace
>>2208757>>2208790My main criticisms right now are that:1. The gameplay is dry as fuck 90% of the time2. The parliament system is fucked and needs some amount of rework.3. If they're going to lock non-euros out of certain standing armies by tech, they should be more generous about giving out custom units. The maya get fucked over compared to the aztecs because they can't build temples unless they flip nahua. Not surprising that they get less content on release and I think the devs picked their priorities correctly, I'm just autistic.WRT point 2 especially - the core concept is fine, but the 5 year time limit is totally arbitrary and locking basically any wargoal that would justify annexation behind it is dumb. The restriction on which legislation you can put forwards is also dumb, and it's super dumb that it can exist as a mechanic and then you can totally bypass it to grant/remove privilages by spending stab-mana to change laws and revoke/grant privilages anyway. It feels like it should be a mechanic that you constantly have to engage with whenever you do anything rather than a button you click every 5 years - similar to CK2's council voting. Rather than parliament magically deciding to invent a claim for you, you get a claim via spying and then you need the buy in of the estates in order to declare war. Then either you get their approval, or you get fucked on stability and massively piss them off for overruling you, leading to antagonism up to the point of maybe even joining your enemies if you declare a war the nobility/clergy disapprove of.It would also skip the stupid fucking parlay of legislation that you get where a vote to build roads is actually a vote to build roads and magically claim a province and raise taxes and grant a privilege because otherwise nothing happens for 5 years.
AI ottomans moved their capital to Constantinople and pretty much killed themselves
seems that the cabinet action to convert pops only lets you promote religions in your groupany clue how to encourage growth of heathen pops?I just want my Christian state in Asia
>>2208791it's not BAD, but will it still feel interesting after 2-3 playthroughs? the economy loop of Vicky 3 got repetitive real fast, bit worried EU5 will be similar albeit not as egregious
>>2208801outstanding move
>>2208799>whitepeaceYou can easily get 50% warscore, cancel their guarantees of Scotland and take their money
>>2208776I'm so fucking tempted to buy it. I've never bought a game on release before, never pre-ordered and I know paradoxs horrible reputation, but I've been following this game for so long and deep down I know it's garbage but I still really want to see.
we are so back
>>2208801If you want achievements you force the AI to always be retarded in DHEs, btw
>>2208803vic3 is the most boring paradox game ever. eu5 is way more complex and fun. >will it still feel interesting after 2-3 playthroughsdepends on the person. same can be said for eu4. mods should help bring more replayability
>>2208807It's literally exactly what it looks like. If you want to buy it you'll probably like it
>>2208807pirate it and if you like it, buy it
So, to get my provinces cored, I need to accept their culture? Like if I'm the Ottomans and conquering Greek lands, I'd need to accept Greek culture? And how exactly do cores compare to EU4 here? I need to core to be able to get more control, or can I achieve that without coring and just with infrastructure?
Are scriptoriums the real money-makers in the early game? They seem to be the sole source for books, which seem to be in very high demand, until the invention of the printing press
>>2208807theres a torrent floating around out there
I really tried to enjoy this but it's just so fucking SLOW and im constantly forced to build another of the 999 buildings for some minimal gain, this isn't gameplay, this is just torture.
>>2208826>slowgood>muh buildingautomate that shit. real men dont micromanage the economy
>>2208807Get it, but the new patch is coming tomorrow so maybe wait for that
>>2208820yeah accept their culture or convert them to yours but that seems to take forever early on
>>2208822Depends on the area but they're usually a good bet. In my experience they're not the best but they're usually in the the top 5 returns on investment.
look at this absolute swagger of a young man
>>2208822I think your market just has a book shortage, it should stabilize over time and become less profitable
>>2208796The automated markets always tries to maximize value, but it seems to leave out supplies that are in high demand but low supply at home. I.e Castile is always lacking in fruits, gold, and fine clothing, but the AI doesn’t import any usually because it’s not as profitable I guess. How should I approach this to keep supply up to par?
which is the best culture to genocide early on?
>>2208801That actually make a lot of sense on why they do nothing in timelapses
>>2208828Slow as in the fucking ticks take YEARS, I cannot play because the month takes 10-15 seconds.>just automate iton one hand sure but on the other its the classic >player will optimize to get the best possible result even if it's obnoxiously annoying, leading to them quitting the game rather than settling for the second best thingparaphrased the phenomena obviously.
What is the quickest easiest way to learn this game?
>>2208845the tutorials
>>2208829I'll do that
>>2208837there's a button that lets you 'lock' the import so automated stuff cant touch it - I guess you just grab what you need, lock it, and let AI fuck with the rest.man I fucking hate this game
>>2208835Most markets seem to have a book shortage, though I'm only 10 years into this game
>>2208846lol
>>2208833What are your top five investment portfolio in this game? I don’t know what I’m doing and just building things that say it’ll give money in places the RGOs are.
>>2208845just playfailing is ok, go ironman so you will have to follow through with your decisions
>>2208849That makes sense I suppose, coming as a CK3 tard, it’s a lot to take in. Fucking hate CK3 now so I’m more than happy to jump into a new EU. Didn’t really like EU4 even as I was getting the hang of it, but this one seems like a breath of fresh air for me.
I had to destroy 6 banks because they became unprofitable
>>2208803EU5 has EU4s good military system and diplomacy system to fall back on
>>2208842>Kil'd by several accidents
>>2208856anti-semetic, you should have minted
>>2208854Nta but I put autosaves on every 6 months thinking it is probably enough to savescum. But then I’m having to live with the consequences of my actions 2 years ago and it’s ruining me. It’s pretty fun ngl.
>>2208845Pick a slightly isolated country close to a major market and automate basically everythingTurn the AI off one step at a time as you feel familiar with what you've already learned.I'd say Naples, Bulgaria or an Irish/North African Minor would all be good starts
MOVING IN WITH PHASE 2OVER
are the conditions for winning the 100 years war completely incomprehensible to anyone else or am i just sleep deprived
>>2208866KEEEEEEEEEEEEEK
Why are there so many impassable islands? I think the most annoying one is Chagos.
>>2208870no it's fineeither you need to boot out England from France + consolidate your vassal land under the French crown, or as England you need to own at least 130 locations in France
The game is a crashy mess, not even pirated either
>>2208878havent crashed once
Hey, guys. Johan here.Any changes you guys want in the next patch?
>>2208870You either need to fuck off from mainland or own 130 locations on the mainland or form an union with france.
>>2208392I have reached an age and income in which the opportunity cost of constantly torrenting new versions of a game is higher than simply buying it and letting steam update the thing.>>2208614Damnit, all that normie-unfriendly parts that you described are actually making me want to buy the game even more. The only things stopping me now are the bugs and the unoptimized performance that >>2208405 mentioned and others have described
>>2208881add lgbt characters
Anyone got any idea why I can't add this region to a colonial charter?
Is there a blank world map yet? I want to blob but I dont want to play the game
>>2208881Add an expel the jews button like in CK2
>>2208878I played 120 years without a crash
>>2208884Wrong thread, oh well.
finally the real voices of gsg are being heard
>>2208871and what happens if he gets excommunicated?
>>2208881add poland
>>2208879This for me too. And my specs are below the minimum.
>>2208801>orthodoxyin my game they also converted, it will probably get fixed at some point
So with the proximity mechanic. Is colonization useless now?
>>2208896Nothing
Cultural assimilation is way too strong, 100k welsh pops turned english in just 5 years.
>>2208812that actually happenedhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Albania_(medieval)
>>2208895>shitters being filtered because they actually got challenged for once instead
>>2208903If you want to keep the lands for yourself then yes.>>2208908It's a fake reddit post.
welsh was always more of a fashion statement
>>2208881Add a music player plox
>>2208884>constantly torrenting new versions of a gamehasnt been a thing in forever for paradox games
>>2208911add mission trees now
>>2208905B B B BASED. Sorry Johnny Bach from Llanŵrdrwywyn, you WILL speak English.
>>2208911>it's faaaaaakehttps://www.reddit.com/r/EU5/comments/1op2jzu/comment/nn9ud31/?context=3
We won.
>>2208807pirate it and if you like it, keep pirating it
>>2208783>going back to total warbait is supposed to be subtle
If Johan adds mission trees I will personally 1605 sitges
I don't understand combat. I'm Ottomans and I have a levy of 9000. It goes up against a Bulgarian level of 8000 and gets absolutely crushed. Like the morale just ticks away in a few seconds while theirs only drops to about 95% of its max.
>>2208920Yes it's a real post in reddit but it's a fake reddit post. The substance isn't about a real issue posted by a real person.Like if I said that EU5 summons succubus to fuck you if you buy 666 premium editions. That's a real line I just wrote but that doesn't mean it's true.
>>2208932their army is probably alot higher quality, more cav, etc
try assigning a general
>>2208932terrain is really important, did you attack into mountains?
I actually really like the slow pace. As Milan, after hours of playing I'm still in 1360s and every small italian city I conquer feels like a real gain
ITS OUT
>>2208932Can be a quality difference like >>2208938 said, plate knights for example only take 50% shock and morale damage. Another thing could be an imbalanced army layout i.e. you only have a few guys on one flank and they get rolled immediately by the enemy.
>>2208776Ok what the actual fuck... My consort is.. a rebel????? it says hes a rebellious prince, but on the rebels tab there's not even such a tab. Is he a rebel in mecklenburg or what? his character tab doesn't say anything. Why isn't this info on his character page? AAAAARGGH
My specs are better than the recommended, other than ram, I only have 16gb. Will that matter?
>>2208947You may be able to launch the game, good luck having chrome open though lmao
>>2208946>on the rebels tab there's not even such a tabsuch a faction*
>>2208947I'm running it fine (with paper map) with 16 ram
>>2208946what a bitch of a wife
>>2208946>anon accidentally downloaded the shoujo mod
Bit of a nitpick but how did they not think of adding a shift+click/ctrl+click to 10% change or max/min slidersSeems like such a minor thing that previous games have had
someone post a screen of the AI having done somethingi take it no one's had the guts to play on very hard setting
>Perm starts the game with a nearly perfect ruler againIs this a historical thing or is someone on the dev team just doing this for a laugh
>>2208783>going back to total warBahahahahaha
>>2208932personally i only take offensive battles if i out number them or if i know my quality/morale/discipline/tactics are highernever attack into bad terrain, and always try to take defensive battles AI really likes to sit on your forts and if you walk into your own fort while they are there, it still counts as a defensive battle for you which is big
>>220894716 works for me fine, but pirate it and try it outNo reason to buy shit blind
can i make cute fuckable girls in this game or is playing the sims limited to ck3
>>2208952Good. I was going to play paper map mode anyways.
it's not that bad...
this isn't ck3 you can't fuck anybodynow please go back to your gacha hentai game containment thread in /vg/
>>2208969My internet has been crap lately so I'm not even sure if I can torrent. I'm talking 5mbps and I live in the UK.
>>2208970A lot of the girls are quite pretty and I'm sure the genetic system is still present. You sadly can't seduce everyone yet though.
>>2208964Pretty sure we've only got records of Permian rulers from around mid 1400s, so EU4 just barely made the cut for a historic ruler, but even then it's not like anything more than their name and maybe one detail was knownOr that's what I remember of when I looked it up once upon a time years ago
>>2208960I am playing in Ireland right now (started as Clandeboye and formed Ulster so far, it's about 1370) and the Irish minors are almost all gone, most of the island is split between me, Clanricarde and the Pale.Scotland has declared on me with "force tributary" twice but never actually landed an army leading to white peace both times. England is getting ready to do the same thing and I fear they will be much more aggressive.
>>2208964Finno-Ugric THUGS are about to buckbreak Rusnigs and Mongols
>>2208896free CB
>>2208888could someone with 2000 hours answer this please :(
>>2208888>already in 1500show
>>2208992Just have a PC with components that are from after the 2010s?
Fitgirl is up
>There are fit girls in this thread right now
>doing good in 100 year war>war score is bugged and not going up after any battleFucking hell
>>2208994i have a great pc i just dont play that fast. you must be clicking away every event and just living on 5 speed
>>2208977Once they add some extra character interactions, then there will be no reason at all to ever go back to CK3
Is the intent to be deccing mostly no CB wars with Parliament-issued conquest CBs mixed in, or is the intent for conquest to be slow enough that it's ideal to only use those Parliament-issued CBs?
>>220892171% on all languages though because of russian and chinese reviews
>>2208992speed 5 afk baby
I managed to explore and settle on a remote island, but how do I actually get it to do something? The settlements just say "The building cannot function if the location does not have market access" but I'm pretty sure it does have market access given that it's apparently exporting sugar?
!!
>>2209019I wish we lived in more enlightened times
>>2208970>>2208977I genuinely think this game would benefit from loading it with certain CK3 mechanics (not all of them but some) given it already has CK3 lite systems in itIntrigue stuff like murder plots, activities with temporary regency (like your leader going on a pilgrimage to increase opinion with the head of religion), imprisonment and ransoming, and wards and wardens content would especially make good DLC. The skeleton of these systems already exists, like regencies and your leader commanding an army and being able to die in battle.
>>2209019That's it, I'm dead
erm
so annexing vassals isnt a thing in this game
>>2208964Having "Roderick" as the dynasty name should tip you off he's not historical.
where's the timelapse button?>>2209029it is, right click on vassal and start annexation
>>2209029but it is?
>>2209024You can assassinate characters. Another interesting thing I found is there is a dynasty view too where you could potentially even see back in history. I found historical rulers by clicking back through the dead parents of the ruler too.
>>2209029Wdym?
>>2209033>>2209032>>2209036
>>2209039skill issue
1444 mod dropping when bros
>>2209003Pretty muchUnsurprisingly not much happens in the new world. I've basically just been expanding maize RGOs for 200 years
So I think I fucked up. I went to a war and won, but my professional soldiers were depleted, but the manpower pool was really small (like 350) and I had like 500 soldiers. So needless to say, my manpower is zero and my solders are replenishing slow af. How can I raise manpower to prevent this from happening in the future?
>>2209048manpower isnt worth anything in the start. its all levies
>>2209048build more army buildings (your early economy will struggle to support this)
>>2208944Feel bad for this guy, going from 1 layer of hell to another hoping it'll be better.
How do I turn off construction automation? I went into the buildings tab and turned off automate construction and automate production and the fucking game just started building a market village without any input from me. This shit is annoying.
>>2209049>>2209050What should I do myself to keep morale up then since it’s all levies?
nani
>>2209048it doesn't matteryou probably have like 10k levies and 500 professional soldiersuntil you start going professional army full time manpower is irrelevant
>>2209054It's content creators like him that ruined Total war
>>2209056Your estates have their own funds and can build stuff on their own if they’re influential enough.
>>2209046>maize
>>2209057church estate policies and spiritualism
>>2209056One of the tabs in the top right corner where agenda is has all the automation toggles
>>2209062Ohhh, you're right. It's one of the nobile factions building shit.>>2209068That's good to know. Looks like everything is turned off. I only let automation touch my military maintenance.
Wtf
So building hospitals in big nations is just a complete waste of time right?
>>2209074Imagine what could have been if NovGODrov united Russia instead of M*scovy
>>2209072>nobilepost pics
>>2209077i used to do that in eu4, might try it after i'm done with my england run
inb4 2nd day patch fixes the game
>>2209077imagine what couldve been of carthage united the mediterranean instead of r*me
>>2209075Yes
I think I might start an UK->Asia colonization game to make some cute hafus
How do you deal with privateers? Patrolling seems to do nothing
There's still no patch? All the countries I want to play are non-functional because of shit like broken claim throne cb.
this shit makes so much more sense than having standing armies of like 20k stacks in the 15th century what were they thinking with eu4 lmao
>black death barely touches france>fucks england up bad>black death ends>france occupying every province in england
>>2208808barf
>>2209091see: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/developer-diary/tinto-talks-87-5th-of-november.1867301/
Omfg its so fucking retardeded>if you colonize a neighboring province normally it takes 10000 years, gold and resources (which you might not even have and then nothing is moving but you are spending gold)>ooooooor you can give your council an order to encourage migration in that region beforehand, wait for 1 month until they send 1000 people (if its a relatively uninhabited region), THEN create a colony charter and colonize it in the next month instantly..
>>2209064I swear to god these fuckers eat 10x their body weight in corn each day
>>2209094As it should have happened otl
>>2209098i wish they didnt send workers thowhat the fuck
>>2209092>what were they thinking with eu4 lmaomaking an EU for the retards who started playing Paradox games with CK2
how do I lower inflationI'm not minting anything but number go up anyways
My parliament is refusing to let me form a town for free and it is annoying. Now I have to save up.
playing japan in MP and letting my european friends colonize me haha ....
>>2208944What is wrong with the total war community that he thinks that paradox players are welcoming and open minded?
??
>a lot of people talking about parliament mechanicsis everyone playing england or does everyone have parliaments?
haven't bought the game yet, is there any good lets plays or streams or whatever of someone playing the Golden Horde or another "army-based country"?
>>2209108do you produce too much silver/gold?
>>2209114everyone has parliaments
forgive me yaweh, for i have sinned
>>2209114Everyone has a parliament. The just go by different names per country, but it’s all essentially an estates-general meeting
give me a fucking blank map
>>2209123This brings a tear to Johan’s eye
>>2209123nubile swedish virgins are currently headed to your location
Has ANYONE had an artist produce a work of art?
>>2209132no
what do you guys currently have your cabinet members set to do
How do I get more jews in prague? The number keeps going down
>>2209136integrate province and develop capital, but idk if that's optimal or even good. at least integration should be optimal, but it's been decades and it hasn't finished yet... should've just made more vassal friends
>>2209140Do unaccepted pops even grow?
>>2209140idk my banking empire hasn't had a single jew, so it hasn't been running optimally.they are all staffed by italian burgers
>>2209132you need to commission artotherwise he just gives you random events for some bonuses

>>2209132YES, didn't even know I had an artist. He made "The sword of Viborg", playing as sweden. maybe they are tied to time and place unless you commission?

Anyone know any good guides I can follow? I've already watched a few and have tried playing as Holland and Castile, but I still feel like I've only learned bits and pieces and keep restarting. I wanna try Hungary next but I can't find any good guides.
i cant find shit and because half the shit doesnt have hotkeys i double cant find shitalso are all the map modes just shit? i used to just sit in the diplomatic or w/e mapmode in eu4 that showed like billion things out of every country at a glance.
>>2209257buy a beat up 70's Dodge Challenger
>>2209262red hawk taught me to play eu4 but hes just making slop spam for eu5 now
>>2209261>I wanna try Hungary next but I can't find any good guides. The game has a tutorial-esque section which gives you suggestions on how to play Hungary, if you start as them. Basically tells you to build jewelry guild and earn a ton of cash from them.

>>2209271I know that, but I wanna know what are some good starting moves to do before unpausing. Plus, I'm I wanna better learn how to manage my economy and trade instead of just automating it.

broke the game
Does anyone have a good idea of the sort of order of operations for buildings? I know that building marketplaces quickly is absolutely critical because you need them for trades, but it also seems like roads are extremely important for proximity and increasing your crown authority so your nation isn't a perpetual cuck state. I can't tell whether or not roads first or marketplaces first is actually the more stable long-term option. Roads are expensive as shit so they're a really costly prospect if they don't wind up giving as much as you'd want in return.
eu5 kind of bores me. Maybe I'll wait for an expansion that adds horde mechanics.

What's the general consensus on eu5 so far? Have been out of the loop with paradox games for a while but eu4 used to be my favorite autism simulator with over 2000 hours played. From what I remember it used to be better to wait a few years for these games to get content.

I finally got the parliament to give me a town. Honestly seems like something you want to restart for first session in future games as lowly nations. I immediately used money I had saved up to build buildings that were now unlocked. The first I built was a slave market. However, it just sucked up all the Burghers and there were none left for my marketplace more didn't generate either. Slave markets are useless when you can't trade. I had built it because I wanted to see if it'd let me increase my population. But I had to delete it so my marketplace works. At least that will make me some money.
Game is too much like victoria, I hate the mass amount of buildings hidden behind difficult to find menus, I knew about roads but it took me a solid 10 minutes just to figure out where to build them.
>>2209363Weirdly I felt more engaged with shit in EUiv than here micromanaging trade goods and dealing with these ugly nested menus and sliders. And thats even with the crusader kings character stuff they went with for rulers.

>>2209400It's not just the AI (though the AI is bad too). It's the fact that every run is fundamentally the same in much deeper level than EU4, countries lack flavor and soul on country to country level but also on a region to region level. It's the fact that to get to the "good part" you need to run trough 100 years of increasingly tedious early game over and over again. It's the fact that most nothing has any character. It's how you need to do obnoxious amount of clicking to have an impact which grows exponentially with country size. It's the fact that you can't really customize the run you are doing in meaningful way such as idea groups etc. etc.>>2209411That's because it is more engaging. Each click is goes way further in 4 than it does in 5. Decisions matter lot more there. Lot of people in these threads operate on very seether based logic where they first determine if they "ought to" like something. Like people have decided that EU4 is bad (even though they played it for 5000h+ personally I don't play games I don't like) because of X thing and because 5 lacks that X thing it's now "good". It's the cousing of the sort of trap lot of people around the hard games community fall into where they have convinced themselves that "I like good games" and "hard games are good" thus any game they like is automatically "hard" because they like it even if the game is babys first toddler game or what ever. It's just a mindset problem. The same is happening here I think where people have convinced themselves that complex games are good games and that this game is complex so the conclusion that this game has to be good without really considering the matter more deeply.
>England>trying to keep France out of the Isles while I fight scotland>have boats in the channel>somehow they sneak 20k onto the island through fogbruhhhhh
Not sure how people are struggling with this game. You just blob and release vassals. Now that the war system has some complexity to it the AI will basically lose every battle suiciding into forests and mountains because they think you have a small stack lol. Build roads and whatever production/RGO has big number. The only problem rn is it's buggy as fuck. Personal unions in particular are egregiously broken. If you ever get stuck as a junior partner and cant DoW on your senior it's because the game has glitched and put you in a marriage union AND a personal union with your senior. You need to restart the game. Learnt this one the hard way and spent 40 years as a junior thinking it would resolve itself lmao. Also the UI is fucked I shouldn't have to zoom in as far as I do to see province capitals. How do you even tell what countries another country is at war with?

>>2209447give it another year or two and everything will have enough flavor to take full advantage of the game mechanics
I thought I was going to play on only paper map mode, but the map mode that shows the 3d map only for locations you control and the 2d paper map for fog of war is actually really cool. I tried various combinations of the map settings and this is the one I settled on (alongside setting the size of 3d building models to 1 instead of 1.25)

I think the problem that leads to Ming not rising is that the AI, or at least Chinese AI, isn't good at defending its territory. This leads to it eventually capitulating to an occupied location. I watched a very strong Ming die to a weak Yuan just because it left what I assume may have been its capital sieged too long. Chinese warlords really should be army based countries and maybe Yuan should even convert into one during civil war if possible.

Just started playing, as Castile, conquered Granada and now I'm losing a ton of ducats per month from "Buying food", can I cancel this somehow and let them starve?s
>>2209625I had to mess with it and change it from importing spices??? to importing the most profitable gold and it healed my economy. Maybe it is good for big and/or established nations, but it isn't good for small ones.
Question, when it comes to rgos, with every building that extracts them is it one extra added to the market? or control will affect the amount extracted? Was trying hungary last night, and somehow stupidly managed to kind of ruin the economy. And also I'm just not really sure what to focus on, and how production ties to control. Like production buildings should only be made on the capital at the beginning?

I just want to economymax and build buildings and develop my country. I don't wanna fight people...
holy fuck60 years of inbred imbecile avg 25 stat loser swedish rulers is over. finally some native TALENTliterally just increased my taxes by 50% and my estates still like me. mana might be gone but bad king is worse now than in eu4.
How do I tell where the local capital is when at war and wandering around in an enemy's country? They seem to be unmarked and there also seems to be no reason not to go for them exclusively.
>>2209654I'm fairly sure you can just go by the ledger and what's profitable. That likely will be your capital area but you can't oversaturate one area or you'll get pop-locked in the area and it'll take even longer to get returns. Still, your capital area should see a large bulk of investment thanks to 100% control there. I believe control doesn't affect how much is extracted, it just affects who is receiving profit off of it, but I'm not sure. Filling the needs of your pop is less profitable than just spamming the best buildings but you need some discretion there, like you don't want your pop growth to be bottlenecked by food shortages, whereas luxury goods and fancy food are less important.
EU gets good with the reformation, wars of religion and colonialismThe brain dead AI isn't filling me with confidence that this is any good though

>>2209644That’s barely scratching the surface of what you can do. You found the simplest and thoughtless way to succeed and did that to blob. There’s so much more under the hood with just the economy. You can manipulate the economy to undermine the ability of other countries to produce finished products by buying up their rgos. There are dozens of factors going into what you do economically, how effective your stuff is, and how you can strengthen your economy. There’s also no one to do it. I have to build a different economy as Scotland because I don’t have similar resources there. All of this stuff is concrete too. It’s not just arbitrary and abstract modifier stacking like in eu4 with maybe 5 things that effect your taxes from a province. I don’t understand how people come away thinking it’s doesn’t clearly have more going on than something like EU4 or even Vic2.

Shithole bros, where we at?I lost most of my levies to attrition but I've been slowly building them back up. After I discover the councilor assimilation action I've been forcibly converting my slaves to the superio Tanoan culture and also filling my levies with the new Tanoan men as well. Can't see a way to end the way unfortunately. We only had around 25 warscore after we defeated their army but I'm in the aggressive side and since we can't take their capital without like 35 warriors it's ticking back down to zero.Good news is I've put together a nice Tribal Coalition and we have assured offense so if I could somehow end this war and start a new one I could probably pretty easily win it. Bad news is my total pops are less than 2K while the big fish, Ialophaybo, has over 6K so I'm going to lose eventually but still fun. Also I'm gonna get taxation soon and hopefully that will keep me from inevitably going bankrupt
>>2209881RGO employees are Laborers, which are a different POP class than Peasants. Peasants will promote to Laborers naturally so long as there's a demand for them (the province RGO must need more workers, and the RGO must be profitable enough for producing more of the good to be valuable). It goes without saying that, if you run out of peasants in a province, you won't be able to get more laborers except through natural POP growth or migration.

>>2210125> you can only build what's available on that particular areaBuildings aren't tied to the resource of the location. As long as there are materials in the market and it's a settlement/town/city, you can build anything. I think what's optimal is having production buildings be placed in locations that produce the materials the building uses. For example, you have a location that produces Fruit and you want to make Wine, then you should place a Winery in that location. I think it will be given a bonus to production efficiency.

I'm playing as Austria. Pretty good so far. I became Emperor around 1345, and just won a war against Upper Bavaria over their unlawful expansion. My nobility dislikes me, and I don't have enough laborers for my RGOs, and I have a couple thousand people starving, but things are going well. I'm automating trade, but that's about it so far. The UI and learning curve is not nearly as bad as retards here claim.

China and similar situations should have some sort of extra isolated diplomacy. No one outside should get angry at a Chinese country conquering others. There should also be separate diplomatic reputation, capacity, and other systems for inside China. This would help make China more dynamic and help it unite.

The fact that Ironman autosaves on peace deal now is absolutely diabolical. It's not even land they wanted, I just didn't wait the month tick it takes for them to give me occupation and didn't notice.
What's a normal year to start building tons of regulars? I have about 3.5k in about 1398 or so. How many should I have? How many cannons should I built to siege early game forts? In EU4 that's 3 canons, but that's 3 THOUSAND, while here a regiment of canons is FIFTY.For comparison, Naples has about 1.3k regulars and Hungary/Poland have like 200-300 each.
>playing Aragon>inherit some French provinces>sell them the provinces over some decades so their coffers recharge>end up getting around 10k Ducats by the end of it>invest like crazy into my industry and economy>10 years later I've gone up 10 ranksThis game kicks ass.
>>2210558>>inherit some French provincesFrom Dynastic mechanics? Honestly the coolest addition to EU5 compared to IV. The way unions work tickles my autism in a special way. It's closer to gaming the feudal system in CK3 than the "royal marry and hail mary" EU4 pure RNG system for getting non-scripted PUs.
>>2210557I feel like it's something you can put off since you'll have to rely on the levy either way. The gold you're investing into building those armories and those troops is quite a bit, the opportunity cost relative to investing it into your economy instead is high. >>2210550The UI is quite poor and the trading screen in particular is bad for trades. The best way to deal with it is to click on the market itself, then sort goods by price. Export low price goods to places the price is high. Import high price goods from places the price is low.Produced goods offer a lot more trade value than raw goods because they're less abundant. It's not a bad idea to overproduce things and tank the price, all this means is you sell this low price good where it has a high price.
>>2210580Think of it like a soft reset button that lowers the power level of Europe to more reasonable levels a few years into the game. Everyone suffers from it. I lost almost a million pops as Bohemia and it took me until almost 1400 to go back up above 2 million.

There really should be some sort of event or something that pushes you towards free subects after it. I'm surprised they went to the lengths of modelling all this and didn't do it that way.

>>2210631You're overthinking it. Just build and trade for the stuff that they're demanding, starting with the most profitable stuff and food. Export stuff you have a surplus of, import stuff that you need ideally from a market that has a surplus so it's cheaper.

>>2211158Not really, the Mamlukes were very enmeshed in the civilian elite of Egypt & Syria. The Mamluks past the 13th century were more like Roman patricians than actual roving slave-soldiers, ruling as bureaucrats in alliance with the local native elite especially since often it was their descendants who ruled (who didn't really get much in the way of military training and disdained the thought of being portrayed as slaves). And it was very much a dynastic state, most "Mamluk" Sultans were related by blood to their predecessor and succeeded to the throne on that basis.

Is it just me or is trade retardedly easy? Just do all the trades that maximize your profits, including imports. Lock them. Technically set it to automate so if/when a trade ends, the AI can do something to make some money in case you don’t notice a profitable trade ends. Then just cancel the AI trade and do another profitable trade. I’m actually making some money now.I also learned you have to adjust the amount of trade capacity the AI can use or you’re simply not trading as much as you can if it’s automated.

The game sometimes has quiet moments with no music at all which I prefer. I want moments where there's quiet, and moments where there's something to emotionally bolster what's happening in the game. (how I would've written it)Using "can be" in conjunction with "only" like this is just a very awkward construction: "The only way to communicate can be speech."And adding the "not to discuss policy" when you've already specified "only" is sort of redundant and seems awkward. Also, without the comma it reads as a completely different sentence—which to be fair happens often in English. But all of these small things together make it a very difficult sentence to parse. I've also noticed stuff like "loose" instead of "lose" which is a very common ESL mistake you see online. I'd guess that Paradox devs wrote the tooltips themselves rather than hiring a proper writer.

Letting Asia colonize is a mistake. It messes with a lot of history because they all start sending colonies into all of the empty land. This leads to a bunch of nations wasting money and becoming distracted. It is honestly a shame because there are some areas that should colonize or at least have the possibility of becoming so. It also would be interesting to have Asians progress naturally and then have a chance to discover the New World.

What's your guys' opinion on automation?I'm going through the in-game tutorial right now and it tells you to automate estate taxation. And on one hand it irks me to enable automation, because what's the point of even playing when half the game plays itself and also will I ever care to learn these systems if I just set them to auto the entire time? But on the other it does sound like tedious micro to constantly adjust these sliders based on estate satisfaction. What do you automate, if anything at all?

>>2212384Just production methods and the tax slider.>because what's the point of even playing when half the game plays itselfThe taxes are a binary mechanic: do you want to do it right and keep them happy or do you not care and want all their money? There will never be a choice that isn't those two

>>2212384no reason not to automate the estates if you don't need them over 50% for somethingthough I like to keep the nobles a little bit higher
I don't automate the tax slider because I assume it will set things to 50% and sometimes I prefer the state to have higher equilibrium.
>heir born>immediately die>16 year retard wife regencyok time to rp nation collapse i guess
>>2212370Are there more than two countries in the union? You can use the "become senior partner" thing on a weaker member that's not the senior partner and it works, probably a bug.
>>2212404would be nice if you could adjust the percentage instead of being locked to 50 but microing it seems awful
>>2212399This is a major problem with lot of mechanics in EU5. There's a correct solution or a very easy decision but actually executing on that is either 1 click with automation which usually does ok job or hundreds of clicks and constant monitoring without it. I would like to manage most of this stuff by hand but it just doesn't make sense, I can't progress the game if I have to be watching all of this garbage like a hawk and at the same time the impact on each individual click is abysmal.
>>2212408In my experience it's pretty much just the Nobles I have to fuck around with sometimes, I can always tax the others to max. So I guess I could automate those since the equilibrium at max is well over 50%. That mostly happens if you go for free subjects, I think.

>>2212602Release provinces as a vassal and annex them in 10 years. It'll still take a while but it's much faster. Caveat is you have to pay a bit for Diplomatic Spending and the Diplomatic Capacity can be burdensome if you have a big ally. It's still much better to free up your cabinet. Integrate still happens automatically on accepted cultures and it's also pretty fast if you have some locations in a province integrated already, so it's not totally useless, but you should mostly be integrating land through vassals. As for control, towns, bridges, roads, canals, navy if you have provinces across the sea, proximity cost, all are some things that will boost it.

>>2212591So, tribesmen and peasants don’t do anything for you. Both need to be promoted to other pops to actually do anything. Tribesmen technically promote twice as as fast (100%) at their base whereas peasants promote at 50%. Peasants also use food while tribesmen don’t use food. However, literacy gives peasants bonuses (+2% pop promotion and 0.2% levy reinforcement speed). You can also assimilate peasants but you can’t assimilate tribesmen. Tribesmen are probably fine or better early game, but literacy and the ability to assimilate peasants probably makes them better in the long run.

It’s about the media, governments, nonprofits, and international organizations coming down on you and demanding you have to get on board and call it Kyiv. You must submit to our framing, and submit to our chosen language, and get in line with the agenda. The push to go to Kyiv in the US in particular was pushed by Democrats and the left wing broadly and shoved down everyone’s throats to immediately dictate the language and discussion around a conflict they were trying to frame in a politically advantageous. If it isn’t clear how politically motivated this change was or how language is used to dictate political discussions, then this will all just be lost on you. I mean, just look how political it to the moment this issue was brought up and how the lines were quickly drawn between everyone. Look how buttblasted Lord Lambert was and all the political smears he threw at the mod maker. These are the exact same principles applied when demands are made that you call a 6’2” man in a wig a real woman. >>2213576>trade whatever makes the most moneyLuckily the automation does this 95% of the time for you.>turn rural locations into towns wherever possible to make more tax base off of urbanisation and industrialisationYou do that mainly to expand RGOs I thought?
>>2213576>increase control and crown power as much as possible to collect from the tax baseControl is just autonomy expanded so that was easy to rationalize. But all of that stuff related to curtailing estates used to be reserved for the Age of Absolutism in EU4 so it made me slightly confused going into this game thinking I could use and abuse estate privileges with no consequences.Estates not being happy while powerful can be the difference between having 300 levies or 3000. Its insane.
>>2213588>You do that mainly to expand RGOs I thought? My understanding is upgrading a rural to a town gives access to all the burgher industrial buildings in that county while demolishing any rural-exclusive buildings that were in there. I don't know if it affects RGOs beyond reducing food production.>>2213597The only estate I've found useful has been the burghers because they'll build industrial buildings and roads for you (if they have the privilege). Nobles mostly just seem to hoard power and build toll castles everywhere, and clergy only occasionally build something useful in my experience.

>effective supply>effective demandDamn, this fucking ruins the game. Is this a design choice or a bug?If you don't know what I'm talking about, imports/exports only count for half the supply/demand, completely fucking up the prices in the markets.Example, there is gold in Bohemia, you import it to Hungary where you make Jewelry, then you ship that jewelry to Venice. In your (Hungarian) market there is 20 supply of gold (from trade) and 20 demand for gold (from jewelry building) But there's only 10 "effective supply" of gold, because imports only count for half. Meaning the price of gold (the input for jewelry factory) is sky high (should be base price)Worse still this is the same for the jewelry, there's 20 supply (from jewelry factory and 20 demand (from exports to Venice), but again only 10 "effective demand", so the price of the jewelry is almost nothing.>but wait, aren't high prices for goods you're importing and low prices for goods you're exporting a good thing?Yes. Which is why I suspect this was done. BUT the artificially inflated price of the input (gold) combined with the artificially lowered price of the output (jewelry) means the jewelry building itself is unprofitable and needs subsidizing, costing you money. They've created a fake economy where a market can have an extreme deficit of a good but the price won't rise because the "effective demand" isn't as high as the supply. You can also have an extreme surplus of goods, but if you get them via import the price will still be extremely high because the "effective supply" is lower than demand. They basically assume you would never want to import raw goods from a foreign market, create processed goods in your home market, then ship them to a third market. Except the whole point of adding economies to the game is to simulate the triangle trade. Which if you do this and ship cotton to Britain and then make cloth in spinners guilds to sell to Europe they'll be unprofitable and need subsidizing.
>>2213786that sounds very autistic so we're just gonna nod our heads and go "uh huh".sounds like a nothing burger they will fix and no one will notice
>>2213856It's working as intended. It's done so your trades will always be profitable. So much for an economy simulator.

Many systems in the game seem to have no purpose or use other than to slow down the game, these include, but are not limited to:>court languages>culture power/artists>most aspects of the character system
>>2213864I was wondering why I could just boost supply and make it profitable. That's a shame.
>>2213970>culture power/artistsCultural Influence affects diplo annex and assimilation speeds. Cultural Tradition is useless though since it's just the inverse of influence i.e. it takes longer for you to get diplo annexed or assimilated.
>>2213979I believe in the original CC builds (where they were complaining trade was OP) trades had NO impact on supply and demand. Meaning you could ship hundreds of a good to a market and still get paid as if there was a deficit of it there.

Is it normal that at the beginning my Pops and buildings are undersupplied? I've set the market and trades to auto for now and it seems I'm still at a deficit, so do I just build the resources I need and it will sort itself out eventually?
>>2215334Afaik being undersupplied for a bit isn't unusual, pops only switch their class if there are free employment opportunities available. Also worth noting that on the right side, below the time controls you have another automation ledger, the cog wheel icon. There you can also automate stuff like closing unprofitable buildings or subsidizing them.
>>2215288It's been just working for me.
