>>152179703No, the author is just terminally retarded.
The extreme 90s had soul
>>152173300>2000s Marvel and DC Post 90s crash comics threw a lot of different shit at the wall, practically experimental, pulling in a bunch of different talent and gimmicks. They invented the concept of the superstar writer in comics, somewhat the antithesis of the 90s superstar artist. They clung on to good works like a life raft. I really feel like the context is important because it did feel like "different = good" to many people at the time. The 00s was the anger sells period, like Tom Brevoort says. People bought Bendis because it was blockbuster comics, big and flashy but because it made big swings and changes that pissed people off. The 2010s was when the apathy finally caught up with them.>From the early 2010s onwards the industry went full retard on wokenessThe problem is people saw which way it was going when it came to adaptations and the 2010s became diverse in part because of Feige. Bendis was at the forefront of this because he was in the MCU creative committee (he was kicked out when he stole GotG movie ideas for his run). The MCU originally envisioned James Bond casting, change the actor, but the popularity of RDJ changed that. So they threw out a bunch of modern replacements in comics as well as pushing more prominent newly created heroes as essentially the way of having new younger actors for the MCU. (Not even the first time adaptations influenced creation, Batgirl was introduced in comics because the TV show wanted a new female character for that demographic; She Hulk was made because Stan was worried the show would introduce one.) So in part it was MCU synergy that created this problem.>A lot of the problem is that the people bitching about 90s comics at the timeThe excesses of the 90s literally helped cause the crash. The crash KILLED comics as a great American pasttime. Over 50% of shops closed. People had legitimate grievances because their complaints about the unsustainability of everyone copying the same gimmicks proved true.
>>152180190>I feel like you ignore some of the absolute shit X-Men went through in the late 80s/early 90s, various teams, constant event shit.See, while that is all well and true and a serious issue in and of itself, but I think you fail to understand that there's a difference between falling for your own hype and trying to be bigger and louder to sell comics and TURNING INTO A LITERAL DEATH CULT! Look a Future Past, look at X-cutioner song, look at X-tinction, Phallanx, Fall of the Mutants, Mutant Massacre whatever you want. In all of those, regardless of quality. the X-men were always acting like super heroes. You can argue that events were too excessive and bad, you'd be right in a lot of cases, but the point is the X-men never stopped being the X-men. The X-men had the dream to fight for. >>152180296>you're both missing the point that Krakoa was never supposed to be a good look for them>it's the X-Men at their lowest. So didn't most of the writing staff and fanbase. Which is where the problem is. This may have been what Hickman intended but every other retard lost the plot hard and liked the oppressive ethnostate sex cult.
>>152180502>See, while that is all well and true and a serious issue in and of itself, but I think you fail to understand that there's a difference between falling for your own hype and trying to be bigger and louder to sell comics and TURNING INTO A LITERAL DEATH CULT!I have read many comics and I just feel like people forget context and don't view things as a whole, they endlessly complain that x new thing is the WORST THING EVER and forget how much and how often there has been peaks and troughs, they act like the past was one big party and that this new thing has killed something for all time. There have been plenty of times they were not seen as superheroes and had to act in different ways. Comics have short creative turn arounds, rely on gimmicks, the fact that any comics have ever had staying power is a testament to creators who succeeded in spite of the industry issues in turn creating entrenched creative issues.Kurt Busiek was a huge fan of the OG X-men. The original X-Men book was cancelled because it was unpopular and seen as not much different from other offerings, it became a reprint book. Marvel got sales information back far later and did realise the Neal Adams/Roy Thomas stuff near the end of the run had a bump. Later on they looked towards international markets and and decided to reboot X-Men with a purposefully interationally diverse team. Len Wein and Dave Cockrum made the new team in Giant Size X-Men #1, some characters were Len's unused Legion ideas. Bryne and Claremont comics built in popularity. Kurt Busiek wrote in and complained about it during the Dark Phoenix. Later on, Kurt was working for Marvel and gave them the idea for how to bring back Jean Grey. Whatever change a comic makes someone will complain, it is no different, I am not even defending the Krakoa era, I simply find the criticism falls flat because it is this one generalised complaint and doesn't actually deal with the stories or anything else.
>>152180618DEATH! CULT! When you have stories where the X-teens make fun of each other for not losing their murder cherry and then have the happy pixie girl dare someone to shotgun her head off because of peer pressure that's the fucking line. You don't get to say anything. I don't care if any older comics were bad. This is beyond bad.
>>152180655Again, you've not read it, you've seen a few smatterings of things, "not muh" "death cult" over and over again. I am not even defending it, I am just saying that you just have no perspective. X-Men have not always been superhero team in the way you keep suggesting, Wolverine slaughters people, shit happens, there was some really big excesses in the past, which is why I keep making that point, which you just ignore and gloss over because you don't want to discuss them or full context. There was stupid stuff with the resurrection protocols, primarily because it was not really thought through conceptually and felt like a plot prop a few times, like manipulating Ben Ulrich, Cyclops dying publically etc. Probably the weakest part of the set up in House/Powers. The whole Krakoa thing was a villain trap essentially, whether Moira or end boss Sinister. Fuck, I think making Sinister the final X-Men boss shit and all the Dominion stuff was the real fucking awful part of it. You're complaining about a few smatterings of paint on the wall going OMG DEATH CULT because of a few stupid things. People liked that Krakoa era because of how bad some previous recent eras of X-Men were, particularly Inhuman push shit, how everyone got a book so all your favourites were back, how some storylines played out, some fine ideas, some themes, etc. There is PLENTY to criticise but you don't seem to care about context, content or anything else. I'm just saying, you have no detail, no depth, no real point, just the same endless regurgitation, and it is frankly kind of boring? At a certain point, if you don't really read any X-Men, past or present, which you don't seem to have done much, why even debate it?
Who should win the Dandybowl?

Who are the most beautiful women in the Marvel universe?Sue and Ororo get mentioned a lot (Sue especially), even by cosmic beings and aliens of immense power/knowledge/judgement as being objectively the most beautiful women in existence. I think Lilandra gets the same kind of mentions.Caveat - no cheating with magic or powers(goddesses of beauty or cosmic embodiments of the concept of beauty or beings that alter the perception of reality, ie Enchantress, Beatrice, Emma Frost) or local perceptions of beauty(Black Widow, Mary Jane Watson, Black Cat are objectively super hot by Earth standards, but never get the same mentions universal of beauty Sue and Ororo get for whatever fucking reason). So who else in Marvel gets mentions for being most beautiful?
Surprised no one said Janet Van Dyne considering she had Living Laser, Whirlwind, Magneto, Black Knight and debatably the Lizard down bad for her.

Sup /co/? I'm trying to hunt down a comic I had back in the 90s, I was a kid back then. It was Batman but he didn't have a cape and was dressed more like the Rocketeer with 40s type look. Anyone know what that series' name was?

>>152180578No, it was not. If I had to guess the years it was probably '93/'94or even '95 maybe.
