>>151884612Bojak just isn't funny. There aren't many jokes and the ones it tries to make don't land. It would be like if you took Rick and Morty, removed all the wacky adventures, took Rick out, and just spent the entire show focusing on Beth and Jerry arguing and being unhappy. There's no arc, there's no character development, just asshole hollywood celebrities complaining about bullshit and some of them are animal people for some reason.
>>151878436This is so fucking based...
>>151880588Man, I remember ages ago when I found about him in another dragon thread ages ago (someone posted a lot of good pics, none of them including vore), then someone pointed me where to find the rest of his stuff, and his current comic was about a (hot) dragon girl lashing out at some dude and tormenting him by forcing him to watch while she devoured his friends. That was something.

Previous >>151843961This time will cover 2013.Last time, Darin and Jessica moved back to Westview and Jessica, who'd gotten into documentary filmmaking since graduation, decided to enlist Jinx to help her make one about her father. Crazy Harry, though, lost his job when the Westview post office was shuttered, seemingly forced into an early retirement until John offered him a job at the Komix Korner. But in better news, Wally's relationship with Rachel seemed to be going well and she helped him to get a service dog named Buddy who helped Wally make great strides in managing his PTSD.Les returned from another book tour to find that Summer had torn her ACL during a game. With surgery and Bull's help rehabbing, she was able to make it back in time for the start of the season but the basketball team started out poorly. Bull was inspired to recruit former teacher and coach Ann Fairgood as an assistant and with her help, things turned around culminating in the team winning the state championship. Bull also helped to compile highlights which helped get Summer and Keisha scholarships to Kent State after they had graduated. There was also some controversy prior to graduation when Roberta Blackburn threw a hissy fit over a gay couple wanting to attend the prom, but Nate and her husband essentially shutting her down put an end to that. In the summer, Les and Summer also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, a trip they won in a raffle to save the local sports teams.Les's relationship with Cayla was rocky for a little bit, especially when Susan took the opportunity to kiss ihm and declare that she loved him. But a student saw the kis and circulated it around and with the ensuing controversy, Susan decided to resign and leave Westview. With that, Les finally proposed to Cayla and the two of them were married the next year.
>>151873760All that drama around the state of the team sounds like it could have made for an interesting story rather than being off-screen stuff he find about later but that's a hallmark of Act III.
>>151879814The story as he tells it was that at the time he was trying to renegotiate his contract with the publishing syndicate to give himself full ownership of his works. As that was going on, he was likely starting to feel burned out and then the artist for John Darling decided to move on and he didn't feel like going through the effort to find another one (as this was the second artist, the original had left to start the strip Marvin). Also, the strip was starting to be dropped from papers at that point and if it circulation dropped below a certain number he could leave with no strings attached. So basically a bunch of factors converged and he took the opportunity to end the strip but because of his ongoing legal battle with his syndicate over Funky, he was feeling spiteful and decided to kill the title character so that even if he didn't own John Darling it'd be useless to them. It was basically done on a whim and at the time he didn't have any actual idea who killed him. It wasn't until he was writing the story about Les trying to solve his murder that he decided to make it Plantman.
>>151884153>he was feeling spiteful >It was basically done on a whimmy thoughts on it is that he regretted what he did, blamed the syndicate for forcing him (even though it was his idea), and now keeps bringing it up as a source of drama. the first time with les's investigation it made sense, but bringing it up again with jessica wanting closure is weird. like, he died as a fuck you joke, it's hard to take it seriously. (not thinking about how hard it is to take most of funky seriously)
>>151875393I thought about it and wondered if it was multiple things going onLike I think for a long while it feels more like he eased up on the heavier drama up until what happens with Bull. As pointed out Jim Mateer passed away in 2011 and Batiuk used to drop buy his class to observe the students to get ideas for the high school settingAround 2013 the people who were heavily following Funky were basically the snarkers, like people who follow Comics Curmudgeon, Chris Sims' Funkywatch on Comics Alliance, Son of Stuck Funky, and so on. Newspapers were in declineMarvel and DC in the 2010s seemed to be shutting out a lot of the old and new guard that he was acquainted with (for instance Byrne was no longer working an either company, Roger Stern maybe did a few things at Marvel during the 2010s. In 2013, Tony/Jenny Blake hadn't done anything at Marvel since 2000 and DC since 1995--and the Comics Buyer's Guide, the magazine Tony/Jenny did a column for, ended in 2013; Sean McKeever's career was derailed by Dan Didio and Eddie Berganza's bad decisions, and so on) and I don't get the impression Batiuk was fond with the directions that Marvel and DC were going in at this time. There may be other reasons but those come to mind
>>151884320I think Jessica wanting closure is fine. The problem, like a lot of everything else with Act III, is the ten year timeskip. Jessica being just out of college and deciding her first documentary should be about her father as a chance to get some closure on him is fine. But Jessica as a woman in her early 30s only just now wanting to do it is ridiculous. A lot of the plots with Darin, Pete and Jessica feel like they'd make more sense if they were younger since they're written as if they are, compared to the Act I gang (except Cindy) being written as older than they are.
