People refer to John K. as an innovator. I think this is true to some extent, but I feel like there has always been a collective desire to want to return to the golden age (or if not exactly that, a way to do new things in the medium of animation, because animation has a lot of inherent appeal and potential). It's why you saw people like Spielberg who was interested in The Secret of Nimh and Roger Rabbit and these other things, because there was already this unawakened desire that we were getting closer to for decades. Roger Rabbit was a turning point in the industry where you saw a noticeably higher amount of onlookers and bosses say "we can do it". I'm not entirely sure if R&S would've been picked up in a pre Roger Rabbit world.

>>153167107I think Hasbro, and especially Takara, are more anxious about doing more Machine Robo based homages, especially now that Bandai has shown that they're willing to still license out the 80's toy designs now and then. In the 2000's, while Machine Robo was still around in some way, the Gobots used in the minibot set weren't really featured. Crasher and a few other skirt by because there's enough changes. Crasher herself was a Tonka original color, so between a new alt-mode, an American cartoon based face, and her Tonka colors, she doesn't resemble Porsche robo from Machine RoboBut Bandai is still licensing out Cy-kill's OG design, Bike Robo, to this day. Hasbro/Takara can probably depend their past homages and updates to those because Bandai never bothered them at the tme and thus they're grandfathered in, But if they were to make a bike robot similar to this, then Bandai could easily make some trouble some them.at this point, given Takara is working with Bandai, I honestly expect more Takara original Machine Robo updates than reworked TF toys as Gobots.
