Its why he was so obsessed with the idea of his own godhood, because he was trying to be something he was not based on what he had been told. Damien was (apparently) quite strong. So if he was the semi-perfect Master of Fire, then Perfect Master of Fire is still coming down the pipeline in the current story.

Potentially weird take: but I feel like what EGS needs is to bring Damien back. Either an alternate universe version of him, or say that the explosion didn't kill him an immortal just yeeted him to somewhere else and now he's coming back. So many of EGS's characters and plot points revolve around this villain that was introduced and taken care of EXTREMELY early in the comic, and without him around these early elements feel directionless. Bringing back Damien as a threat would do a lot to revitalize the comic and make these not wasted characters and shit.
