>>107852402>"atomic distributions are unstable compared to non-atomic ones".Never said this but i already know you will argue that unstable is the same thing as breaking more or breaking less. You went from calling the idea of an atomic distro breaking a delusion to then saying it doesnt count when given an example of it breaking not to mention the other times anons in these threads run into issues on atomic distros (always bazzite for some reason) that never exist on other distros>Linus from LTT has broken a non-atomic distribution by simply trying to install Steam.Which was a user error, where's the user error of the other youtubers bazzite system breaking? Was it because he rebooted his system?>le android argumentAndroid isnt linux and one of the biggest complaints about steam os is all of the native packages provided by the image like chrome being out of date too quickly and any system changes made not being persistent which is also the biggest issue with immutable systems. If you want a system that does one job and doesn't need to do many changes while the image gives whatever it needs then immutable can work but the average desktop is not like that.

install fault on HP 15-fd0083wmI downloaded and created my USB installer drive directly from the Elementary OS website. it works in live mode. when I try to "erase disk and install" it instantly faults and cannot install. id does this even after a clean format. after some searching I tried "custom install" option after using Gparted to format the drive and create partitions (512MB for FAT32 boot) and then the rest as ext4. then when I return to the installer and select "custom install" and select my partitions, the windows overlap in such a way I cannot see, select or confirm anything on the partitions. resizing the primary installer window does nothing. additionally, I only seem able to select the 512MB FAT32 partition, and have been unable to select the larger partition.apparently there is/are known issues with the installer on some computers. my craptop has an UFS SSD which is also probably an issue. something about recognition? I've read so much shit it's all starting to run together in my brain.I got Mint XFCE installed and running on it last night. that also took some finesse, again, I believe, because of the UFS. after several terminal entries in Live, i was able to get it running normally. despite that, I would prefer to run Elementary if at all possible. I have tried forums, GIThub threads and Grok to assess, diagnose and mitigate. still no joy. This is my second Linux install ever and I am not a "computer guy" by any stretch.this computer has a nearly identical origin story to the last one I posted aboot here. it was left behind when a tenant moved out of an apartment presumably because of a bad battery. I got a free battery from Amazon Vine, and was able to get it to boot. being that it is 8 years newer than my Stream 11-Y010, faster and more storage, in dont *need* to run the bare bones Mint XFCE. I would like something a bit more modern and stylish, ie: Elementary 8.1What say you Anon?
This piece of shit is always broken and it's not a fault but a feature

Frutiger Aero
All i'm hearing are the MSN messenger notification sounds.
It's funny how Aero is remembered so fondly, where as in reality when it came out it was way too taxing for like 95% of systems. People ended up turning all of the features off or just used XP instead.Sure the style looks nice and futuristic, but from a practical point of view it was a big miscalculation on Microsoft's part putting such a resource hungry style on by default.I think this is one of the main reasons why Vista was so hated, it was just too heavy to run.Back then the computer enthusiast circles were so much smaller, that even many of the more computer savvy people didn't really understand much about GPUs and CPU was just something where more gigahertz better.People used random prebuilts with crappy specs that were more fit for the year 2000 than +2007 and back then CPU progress was staggering. Things got outdated really fast back then. But then again the love for Aero is less about the style itself and more about the era and how much better things were back then.Besides the current aesthetics are so fucking terrible, that you could pick almost any style from our history and compared to the modern soulless flat globalist prison aesthetic, it's infinitely more preferable.
>>107852316It wasnt a miscalculation retard.First they created the Problem (PCs not strong enough for new OS)And then they sold the solution (better hardware)
>>107852316>MS wants to show off fancy 3d accelerated GUI>users shit themselves in rageFor once MS was in the right and it was OEMs and retards slapping vista onto hardware that was barely suitable for XP.
>>107852316You could just use a basic or classic style, which was an option, unlike now
it's over. the infinite AI investment money is drying up.
>>107847274Modern Ai is literally just an advanced search engine that accepts input and finds answers. It’s not even intelligent
>>107852190being able to find answers for inputs is most certainly criteria enough for intelligence depending on the category of inputs and outputs. in the case of LLMs, they very clear exhibit a kind of higher order intelligence given they operate in a flexible manner in a vague and ambiguous domain. they might not be eldritch geniuses like the vc grifters are hyping it up to be, or exhibit all the same dimensions of intellectual capacity as humans (their formal reasoning seems explicitly weaker, though it's not like humans are reliably good at it either), but if you want to sit there and say something that can combine language, math and reasoning in a coherent but arbitrary manner exhibits no degree of intelligence, quite frankly i can't agree with that.
>>107852063Trying to force a sentiment onto a board really makes me think the actual answer is the opposite. /g/ as a whole outside of the general hates AI and new technology in general.
>>107847887based. venture capitalists need to be scammed like this every day.
>>107847818>AI is taytayNo. AI nowadays is so deep in guard rails it's less than useless. It hallucinates into a negative value as a trust the experts ploy, nothing more. Believing AI is like believing we all died during the COVID hoax.Surprising that this thread is a bunch of NPCs spitting the same narrative. Curious.
