My surface pro 7 was a great piece of hardware that helped me get through university. The screen tablet is great too. After I finished college I tried putting Linux on it, it gimps the screen tablet functionality and the cameras don't work and will likely forever be unsupported (see https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32518882). It was a shame since the fans whine horribly on Windows unlike on Linux which made me end up hating it. Like >>107683824 said I would not buy the new ones for those reasons unless you want a deprecated CleverBot machine. Even when I first got the device it had an issue for WiFi drivers for the first few months that clamped download speeds to 1mb/s. It was a great piece of hardware held back by software.
>>
>>107683808
It was really nice to touch at first but i have seen them used for a year and it's just awful.
>>
>>107685309
There is a linux project to get the touch screen functionality back though. Linux on surface I think the project is called.
>>
>>107685626
It gets the touch functionality working, but it doesn't work well. I tried and was disappointed, also see https://github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface/issues/1061. A wacom tablet on Linux works perfectly out of the box with libwacom and KDE which is what I ended up settling for.

You can always take crack but I don't think that makes you a good programmer, it's the dedication that matters.
>>
>>107685386
you want to become laughing stock in actual programmer circles?
>>
>>107685489
>actual programmer circles
What actual programming circles?
Programmers rarely talk or do small talk.
>>
It isn't worth it. Actual programming won't exist in a few years, at least not in the capacity it exists now. AI is nearly at the point where manually writing code will no longer be necessary.

No, it doesn't. No matter what camera you use, it won't look exactly like a real apple.

this. I am always baffled by these posts, when most linux applications require far less steps before actually installing the software, while OSX and Windows require fiddling around in the web browser finding the genuine EXE or DMG rather than some spyware copycat.

I dunno what you mean by "regular earphones", earbuds that only rest loosely at the entrance of the ear canal? Bullet style IEMs? The former have the disadvantage of having no sub bass, with the latter the fundamental difference is only in how you wear the cable (straight down vs. over the ear).

Not him, but it doesn't need to be 10k, Windows was pretty slow even when the number was more manageable. I had to turn off video thumbnails on Windows 10 completely because explorer was unusable if it had to generate any of those.
It would actually brick itself if it tried to generate video thumbnails for m2ts lmao.

They already completely ignore GPS signals and rely on Google location services, my GPS antenna straight up can't get a fix and it still lets me do gigs, gig apps have a bigger issue with the quality of their workers, I get so many customer messages saying DO NOT LEAVE ON STREET USE [gate code] TO REACH MY FRONT DOOR ", you really only get kicked off the platform after a long string of non-deliveries.
>>
>>107681633
This is nothing, customers have already been able to scam the drivers delivering their order by calling them up pretending to be Uber support or whatever and saying the delivery is canceled you just need to give your login details and the 5 digit SMS code to get paid for it and they get in and drain the account and ppl still fall for it lmao

>but will be without third world.
Kek every time someone posts this pipe dream I have to remind them that they have the ability to ban the third world now, they don't. They could mark all packets coming into the US from overseas or outside routing and they don't. They could make this happen right now, they don't.

Instead what will happen is YOU will be forced to identify yourself to the highest degree of control and identification with attestations built into every desktop, but turdies will run amok and effectively take over the internet for free. Your posts will be earmarked with your name, ID, and phone number while all the turdies will be stealing your name, ID and phone number to spoof in their posts because you were fucking stupid enough to give it away to a site like 4chan, lmaoooooo

Think that's far-fetched? that's what's happening to UK and the OSA right now:
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/10/09/hackers-steal-britons-ids-hijacking-online-safety-checks/

You're never escaping the third world, and any act you may impose on yourself to make it go away will just make it easier for them and worse for you. KIND OF LIKE THESE CAPTCHAS

SerenityOS has a lot of sub components you could focus on, or you could work on porting third party software to this platform, see
https://github.com/SerenityOS/serenity/tree/master/Ports
For deeply low level stuff, there is gigatron.io where you can even rewrite the microcode.

NTA he means the overtly brown-nosing and sycophant personality that all AI models are trained to have.

>WHAT AN EXCELLENT OBSERVATION, EATING GLUE IS IN FACT NOT A PART OF DIETARY NEEDS, BUT YOU CAN REPLACE IT WITH AN ADEQUATE AMOUNT OF SPACKLE IF YOU SO DESIRE FOR YOUR FOOD
That kind of smug "I'll do anything to keep my job" mewling that corporate brown nosers tend to do that all AI are trained with, because they are made to be automated brown nosers for CEOs and managers.

If anyone deserves this, it’s Rob Pike. He was instrumental in inflicting Go on the world. He could have studied programming languages and done something to improve the state of the art and help communicate good practices to a wider audience. Instead he perpetuated 1970s thinking about programming with no knowledge or understanding of what we’ve discovered in the half-century since then.
