Zoomer here. I heard from my teacher today that phones used to have a slot like the sim card one where you could put in those digital camera memory sd cards in it. Why did no one complain when this happened?

Samsung tried it once with the Galaxy s5 and brought the sd card back when everyone just bought other brands.
All the other brands started making such dogshit phones that we ended up having those markets due out, giving Samsung an effective duolopy where they decided to (again) remove the SD card slot.

I bet barely anybody ever used it. Most people are barely sentient, expandable storage makes no sense when you take the average consumer into account.

1. It has nothing to do with it being cheaper. It's a gift to the corn lobby.
It costs a few pennies to use sugar instead of corn syrup, and consumers are willing to pay for it.
2. There is absolutely a taste difference, and good taste testers can taste it.
Look up some videos where people taste test Coke vs. Mexican Coke or Pepsi vs. Pepsi Throwback.
Good tasters are honest with themselves, and most realize corn syrup actually tastes better than sugar, although some do prefer real sugar.
3. Realize that most people cannot taste the difference between Coke and Pepsi, so doing taste tests with randoms is not a good benchmark for proving you have the recipe.

I didn't. I still think they're great. Will never understand the linear craze.

I do think however that there's a huge gap in the market for IMO the ideal clicky switch. It should be:
- Alps-style click leaf à la ZealPC Clickiez
- Light, low-resistance click midway in the press à la MX Blue
- Dampened triple-shot stem à la Lichicx Lucy
>>
>>107849325
People still like them. It's just that good clicky switches are pretty much all vintage. Even attempts like the Zeal Clickiez and Gateron Melodics that try to capture what made the old vintage switches good don't do so very well IMO. They're too tactile.

Also, many of the custom boards that are made these days are not built with acoustic properties that do well with clicky switches. There's a big focus on an elimination of resonance. foam, etc. which can sound good with linears and tactiles, but they do not do well with clicky keyboards. Also most of them are aluminum. Clicky keyboards sound best with plastic boards, otherwise the sound gets too tinny. You can compromise with metal top + plastic bottom.

Any I love my IBM and Alps boards. They're awesome. I'm hoping Geon comes out with the F1-8X FE (an all plastic board) because the F1 has removable weights which are perfect for Alps. I would most certainly migrate my Blue Alps switches into that chassis if it ever comes out.

How come C# isn't more popular when it's basically Java but better? Is it because people distrust a language maintained by Microsoft, or does the JVM have non-obvious but crucial advantages over the CLR?

It's better than JavaScript frameworks and you can reuse the same components on web, desktop, and mobile. What's not to like?
>>
>>107846926
Yeah I'm not saying it's not, though that doesn't mean it's particularly popular beyond Unity.
>>
>>107834144
It's as popular as it can get as it's primarily used in corporated and gaming as those are Windows .NET dominated industries.
Technically C# is multiplatform, but unless it's used as a scripting language inside a game engine, it relies too much on Microsoft's .NET to be used on Linux, Android, Apple's ecosystem and multiplatform open source projects.

I think maybe the anon that keeps insisting alibterated versions such as heretic makes the model retarded, might actually be a jew trying to subvert us.

Vertical video is the norm now. All video is vertical now. People actively wish horizontal videos were vertical. They yearn for vertical video even when they're not circumstantially limited to it. A kid asked me to hold his phone and film him doing a trick at a skate park last week and when I held it in landscape mode he stopped me, took the phone, changed it to portrait and continued. Ten years ago vertical video was considered digital AIDS. It was to be avoided at all cost. Now it's the golden standard.

my mom unironically pretty much only watches YouTube shorts on her tv and half of them are just snippets from horizontal videos with black bars above and below them.
so, you're watching a horizontal video on your horizontal tv, but with huge fields empty space on all sides of the image which is now thumbnail sized.

I love the future

The progression of technology does not always make things better. 15 years ago people were passing the time by watching movies and TV shows that had to be produced and greenlit by people whose jobs were to gamble on what audiences would want to see most. There was no other way to make a film or television broadcast. Maybe there was public access television but it was never the best material available meaning it never did well. All in all, film and television was heavily gatekept by tastemakers. Even the absolute trash that got produced back then was better than what most people waste time on now, because now there's YouTube.
Anyone can upload anything to YouTube at any time for any reason from anywhere. Meaning you no longer need the permission of middlemen to reach your audience. You just make shit and put it out. Thing is, audiences aren't very discerning so the bar for quality is clipping through the bottom of Hell. Some of the most viewed videos on YouTube right now are nonsensical AI generated slop. Millions of people who would've been watching maybe Jackass 15 years ago are now spending their time watching videos wherein a robotic voice narrates a script clearly generated by ChatGPT that is full of inaccuracies and outright lies, and that's just normal now. The technology has improved but the standards have fallen as a result.

It's only going to get worse.

not worth optimizing, the only thing worth optimizing is text.
if you care, you could benchmark.
but I think you will be spending 0.00001% of your time on UI input / collision events.
Maybe 0.1-10% on UI rendering depending on how much text you render.
10000hz polling mouse inputs don't send 10000 events, it only does that if you enable raw input, which is usually when the mouse is hidden in 3d games (and even then, the number of events are reduced in something like SDL2 to reduce stutter).
