Is shader code really that precious so we need all that shit? Can't developers (especially game developers) just distribute their shader in the form of source code that would be compiled for the end user GPU when he installs software/game?

Ever since an update half a year or so ago (CachyOS), when I want to power off, it will most of the time close the browser (brave) and shut down. But sometimes it only closes the browser, and then I have to click power down again. How to fix?

The next problem is (also since that one update), when I turn my rig on, almost always when brave opens, it doesn't restore all the tabs, and instead I have to manually click on "restore". How to fix?

Switched to Ubuntu on my Surface Pro. I actually like Fedora's initial performance and look a little better but it had trouble recognizing my Xbox One controller (Even tried installing that Xone kernel plugin). And then after an update I guess it overwrote my touchscreen features. But even if I did get both of those things working again, gaming performance was unplayable. I tested Halo 3 on Halo: The Masterchief Collection.

But after switching to Ubuntu, I have pretty much the same desktop performance and features (the eraser function is wonky on Krita and GIMP, which was working really good in Fedora, but otherwise the same touchscreen/pinch features), and it recognized my Xbone pad immediately. Gaming performance is buttery smooth. Besides Halo 3, I also tested Xonotic (both directly from their software centers), and Xonotic performed basically the same but just slightly worse on Fedora. But Halo 3 on Fedora was ass, like between 5-20 fps unstable, while Ubuntu runs between 30-60. I have no clue why, both of these installs are basically fresh and I followed the instructions on the surface linux github page (In fact I installed Fedora twice from scratch just to make sure because I really wanted to use it).

I'm shocked Ubuntu is running so well. I used to have problems with this distro, even updating the software center was a hassle, went to Mint and didn't look back until now. But this time it went so great. Honestly pleasantly surprised. Makes me excited for Wayland coming to Mint. It's gonna be amazing.

Other than for storing videos and photos taken with your phone, is there a reason to even need more than 256GB on a phone? People with more than 256GB, what do you use your extra capacity for not including the videos and photos you take with it?

no, anon, that's retarded
normgroids lease their phones from their service provider, then return them in serviceable condition every other year to lease new phones
most of them opt for the optional handset insurance, which covers the full cost of the phone in the event that it's damaged.
considering how expensive the latest and greatest phones can be, it's a protection worth every penny

I have been converted.

After going through so much bullshit to get Windows 11 configured the way I want it, I experimented with Linux Mint on an external hard drive and I have to say it’s been amazing. I think we have finally hit an inflection point where the effort to install, customize and use Linux Mint is now less than installing Windows 11 IoT LTSC and running the debloating scripts/reinstalling default apps, and it’s a better experience.

Open source software has also matured to the point that I have found sufficient alternatives for ALL of my windows programs including Paint.NET with the recent Pinta update.

Once I customize the look and feel of Cinnamon/Firefox a bit more I will probably be switching to Linux full time. After years of retarded bugs, obvious features not being implemented, dogshit communities, etc. I think Linux finally made it.

I barely use them. You're probably trying to do things in some retarded ass backwards way rather than learning how to actually use linux.

Using a package manager is generally easier than the windows random .exe lottery, but it is different and requires re-learning the way you do things.
>>
>>107849495
flatpaks just ship the system libraries with them, retard. though then so do many windows software packages (which is why to run one .exe you need 200 .dlls)

Any time you run an exe that doesn't ship with a bunch of dlls it's using system libraries just like on linux.

1000 would be the initial capacity, which by default is 0 for my implementation. I didn't copy or follow any stupid text books, a vec is a vec it's pretty simple overall. I don't care if my implementation is slightly slower or whatever, haven't benchmarked it.

Vertical video is the norm now. All video is vertical now. People actively wish horizontal videos were vertical. They yearn for vertical video even when they're not circumstantially limited to it. A kid asked me to hold his phone and film him doing a trick at a skate park last week and when I held it in landscape mode he stopped me, took the phone, changed it to portrait and continued. Ten years ago vertical video was considered digital AIDS. It was to be avoided at all cost. Now it's the golden standard.

my mom unironically pretty much only watches YouTube shorts on her tv and half of them are just snippets from horizontal videos with black bars above and below them.
so, you're watching a horizontal video on your horizontal tv, but with huge fields empty space on all sides of the image which is now thumbnail sized.

The progression of technology does not always make things better. 15 years ago people were passing the time by watching movies and TV shows that had to be produced and greenlit by people whose jobs were to gamble on what audiences would want to see most. There was no other way to make a film or television broadcast. Maybe there was public access television but it was never the best material available meaning it never did well. All in all, film and television was heavily gatekept by tastemakers. Even the absolute trash that got produced back then was better than what most people waste time on now, because now there's YouTube.
Anyone can upload anything to YouTube at any time for any reason from anywhere. Meaning you no longer need the permission of middlemen to reach your audience. You just make shit and put it out. Thing is, audiences aren't very discerning so the bar for quality is clipping through the bottom of Hell. Some of the most viewed videos on YouTube right now are nonsensical AI generated slop. Millions of people who would've been watching maybe Jackass 15 years ago are now spending their time watching videos wherein a robotic voice narrates a script clearly generated by ChatGPT that is full of inaccuracies and outright lies, and that's just normal now. The technology has improved but the standards have fallen as a result.

It's only going to get worse.

There are 10,000,000,000,000,000,000 planets inside the habitable zone in the observable universe. This is based on the milky way having 500,000,000 planets in the habitable zone and the observable universe having 200,000,000,000 galaxies

It would be a truly absurd statistical anomaly for the conditions of life to only exists on earth and not any other of those 10,000,000,000,000,000,000 planets with the right temperature for liquid water. This is completely ignoring everything outside of the observable universe which could shoot those numbers up to levels which your asshole is not ready for
