Basically what it does is send the ID of the computer plus its current installed edition to MS's activation servers and gets them to add the ID to the activation server no strings attached. It's really not... I'm going Threadripper on my next build for more flexibility (cores, PCIE lanes, etc). Consumer hardware has plateaued and they're really not gonna give us more than a few little speedups going forward.

If you just browse and do your homework my PC would be more than enough, but when it comes to total compute it's falling behind fast... hell, even my high-end 4090 feels like the minimum spec these days with new games running like ass without DLSS maxed out (~240p to 4K).
