i do server infra at work and its mostly luck based. i had servers refuse to boot entirely just because 1 stick of RAM went bad just slightly over a year, and also had servers running 5+ years without issues apart from HDD failures. but personally i would still go for self hosting because its more fun.

the CCP hasn't even succeeded at banning VPNs. Just buy it with crypto if they block your credit card. That's just a normie filter

don't they block all country specific IPs? one anon a few threads ago said he can't even visit his VPNs website and he couldn't connect to any server. idk if he was from the UK or not though maybe it was an unrelated issue

The same lack of whatever law / ettiquette / "moral" etc also means you could get the "good stuff" easily. Drugs, unprotected sex, public indecency, heck some countries it was okay to mate with underaged girls then. It's the hippies and funk era. There's some sort of wild "freedom" then. You could probably be a traveller wandering the rural areas and they probably would invite you home for a meal, a night's sleep and let you fuck them / their daughters or whatever.
>>
>>107730177
>These the same "people" spending $30 for a crappy VGA camera worse than any compact camera
just the ability to manually control my phone camera with more capable "camera apps" like opencamera and take raws to touch up later is enough to elevate a phone camera above my 2010 compact, even with the smaller optics. really the worst thing about compact cameras is that they have fuck all options. they're deliberately gimped compared to professional cameras.
it's also a shame he demonstrates a canon camera there, since at least canon consumer cameras had CHDK, maybe he mentions that later in the video, but i doubt it
>>

>If zoomer grew up without any knowledge of older OSs and PCs before multicore and multiple Gb of RAM, XP is gonna seem pretty lightweight
i only begrudgingly uprgaded to XP on my pentium 3 667MHz with 128MiB ram after i got a dvd drive and wanted to use ntfs, i immediately found i needed to get 128MiB more ram since XP would happily use all of that 128MiB for itself, despite this machine coming with that much and it came out only a year before XP did
XP was the original Vista, slow, resource-heavy, and major device/software compatibility issues, and i put it off for 3 years (same amount of time between vista and 7, now that i'm thinking about it)

That only he can lead humanity forward, he can see and know the direction it needs to go and he is the one to take it there.
Any societal, ecological and economic destruction is worth the price for the rightness of his vision.

== Option 1: GPU manufacturers prioritize B2C ==
Cards remain cheap, more people continue getting into PC gaming. People play on Ultra settings. The AI industry stalls, thus perpetualizing the global trade war deadlock. Inequality, scarcity and suffering continue worldwide, and at any time countries like Russia could decide to end civilization by starting a nuclear war when one of their military operations doesn't work out.

== Option 2: GPU manufacturers prioritize B2B ==
Cards become more expensive. People can still easily get into PC gaming, but might have to lower the graphics settings from Ultra to High. Game devs have to start optimizing their games again, but they now have easy, cheap access to genius level AI that can help them, so their workload ends up being a fraction of what it would have been.
The availability of cheap compute for AI eventually kickstarts an exponential acceleration that eventually leads to the Singularity. Once it begins, concepts like inequality and scarcity fade into oblivion over a matter of months as we ascend it a more advanced state of society.

Choose.

>>107730028
The problem is that all the "manufacturers" take dies from sources that are all bound up with AI meme. That's why everything points to this shit lasting for years and why this "it will just fix itself" is not working.
>>
>>107723190
It's almost as if all the people in the market for this generation of gpus have already acquired them.
Same shit happens to every other ecosystem when the tech outpaced the current mass produced offering.

These manufacturers don't want to produce outdated product just for another company to release another product with updated hardware. Of they aren't releasing a new iteration or updating the product to be more efficient then why bother when the only people buying are in a totally different product line.

How can you realistically get hacked from using an outdated OS if you're behind a firewall? All those meme vids of "computer hacked after 10 seconds of connecting XP to the internet" involve turning off he firewall, from what I heard. If the firewall is on what is the realistic attack vector where you get hacked because of an unpatched weakness in the OS? Outdated browser maybe, but that goes for any OS. Is browser security worse on an outdated OS?

99% of malware developers won't even think about bypassing firewalls, as people who use them are not their targeted demography. If you actually include malware capable of doing that, you most likely deal with some state-backed malware, and therefore you likely have much bigger problems in life than using old windows versions.

I think since they are all very close in performance the true metric is how generous the providers are with free tiers.

For me it's chatGPT by a wide margin. I don't know why there's some comments here implying that it can't code. The only con I find is that it's pozzed, so if you want it to stop using its retarded "empathetic" language and give useful information on social issues you need special prompts. Once the pozzing is bypassed, it's incredibly powerful. I like that it lets you use legacy models too.

The USB3 controller on mine doesn't state reset support so I never passed it through (used the USB2 controller instead). Good for you that it worked though.
Same deal for GPUs, I just unload the driver before starting the VM. Works until it doesn't.

Yeah, i got a P1S too and a 19U half depth rack.
Firstly, a row that secures 2 8 port TP-link switches.
Another row secures a dell optiplex micro with a keystone jack for it's ethernet port and another 8 port switch
A row that holds my netgear modem with console and other keystone jack ports for other devices that dont have one on their front (PDU and UPS)
Last printed row isnt complete, its only half a row and just holds a bananapi r3 mini and keystone jacks for it

I just got an HDMI switch for christmas so i might 3d print the other half of that unfinished row to mount that but im busy with other shit so im not in any rush

I think you'll like the P1S, I used ABS for the rack prints. You cant find 'everything' online, ive had to make a bunch of shit not even /hsg/ related. I suck at 3d editing with shit like blender but have found SketchUp Ver 17.2 to be very usable and perfect for designing things with exact measurements

>are these weird TexHoo-MiniPCs from AliBaba decent as a first home server? Or should I go for a second hand dell/thinkpad mini pc?

Re:3d printing

Yeah I'm very new to this so I haven't touched making or editing stuff myself yet but I do see the need. Putting a place for a keystone jack in front is such a good idea, I will try and do that for my Lenovo pc and cloud key.

I've been using petg for most of my stuff as I don't have proper ventilation in the room for asa/abs besides a window that the p1s is in front of. I figure it's fine as my devices are small

Every linux desktop is being ruined and self sabotaged

If its not by wayland mental illness thats broken and doesnt even run linux programs without xwayland which is buggy, they still wont admit X11 is still better. X11 just werks

Then you have the desktops that are embracing this wayland mental illness.

Cinnamon is transitioning to gayland, and uses nemo the worst file manager in existence on linux because the devs refuse to fork thunar.
XFCE is transitioning to gayland and has become mega bloated from what it once was
KDE is getting slower, more bloated

The only refuge you can accept is X11 tilingwm like i3 or xmonad if you want something more configurable
