I knew a guy from college who also has a perfectly secure job at Amazon and is constantly talking about leaving. Funny how that works.
I actually worked for a few aerospace contractors during summer internships and they're always looking for systems programmers or embedded Linux experts. Get to work on cool stuff, especially if you can get a clearance. Jeets nonexistent, you get a lot of white guys who went to state schools. Pay is gonna be less but it's pretty comfy desu.

I'm sick of the modern web and want to try one of these "suckless" browsers.
I'd like to be able to turn off JavaScript, images, and even CSS, but it can't be a command-line interface browser.
It has to be a graphical browser.

Fucking trash operating system rebooted again while I was making this thread and lost everything I had written. I am so beyond mad dealing with this trash tinkertranny OS. If I had installed Linux I would of been done long ago but noooooo... This piece of trash had me blocked from using the laptop I bought because it wanted to use my Microsoft account without any other option. It wanted my fucking Microsoft password and it withhold my fucking laptop for ransom until I gave it the fucking Microsoft password to my account. I will post this now before it reboots again but I am not done.

XP and up had telemetry built into them. It's called the Consumer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP) and was OFF by default. It never nagged you to turn it on either.

A number of those Windows Updates just added more telemetry capture scenarios to CEIP in Windows 7 (and maybe 8). What is truly concerning are the Windows Updates that added the Diagnostics Tracking Service to 7 & 8 (10 has it built-in), which I've never found any good documentation on what this service does

Gradle is horrible. The build "DSL" is grotesque, and what people are doing with it is absolutely horrific. Maven has design faults, some of which they seem to be fixing in Maven 4, but on the whole it's nicer to deal with. Honestly, if I were to build a new java project today I'd probably use ant.

>/g/ makes a 19th album
Theme: [Accepting suggestions]

>Song submission rules/guidelines
Upload the file somewhere, preferably in a lossless format, and post the link here. If you want to update your track, make a new post.
Include the song title in the post, and make it clear that your song is a submission for the album.
Optionally you may include cover art for your track, but please confirm that the image in your post is the cover art or it won't be included. You may not use your real artist name.
Songs that contain anything against YouTube's policies won't be uploaded on YT, but will still be added to the album.
By default, tracks will be normalised to -14 LUFS (integrated loudness) in the release. You may specify a lower loudness for your track.
Use of AI is banned. This includes AI generated stems, samples, and effects. "AI" includes all neural network-based models and not hard-coded automation/procedural generation. You are allowed to ask an LLM about music-related questions, but asking it to give you musical ideas (eg. generating a chord progression) is already a no-no.

Anyone else finding that Massive X sounds better than Serum 2? It's a pain in the ass to program for sure but it does seem to hit harder and sound cleaner

idk about sounds better, it's lacking a lot in comparison in terms of effects and osc types (probably a big update ahead, I got a survey email about what we want), but it is faster for some things
I like the LFO switcher and the fact all the LFOs are set up differently from the get go, some sync'd some not, exciters, random ect
and I like the separate performers, though drawing everything is slow, I wish we had a hugely expanded drag-and-drop shape menu built off the one in Massive

oh, and one more thing
BRING BACK THE FUCKING LIGHT THEME YOU FUCKING GERMAN FAGGOTS

how do you even know what to change at this point?
imagine you have a good sound going and then your niece goes in and fiddles with something

the classic trance tracks are special not just because of the composition or marketing. the hardware is contributing a lot to the sound. you could grind for years making numerous tracks with JE8086 and other VSTs and you wouldn't make worldwide hits like those teenagers did with relative ease all those years ago. this should be common sense and most normal people can tell if a professionally produced track sounds especially great and if an amateurishly produced track sounds meh or offensively bad. fucking retards.

Qualcomm's most advanced ARM chips now rival the performance of the Apple M5. Why hasn't Qualcomm opted to open source the drivers, enabling the creation of robust ARM Linux laptops? Do they have deal with Microsoft?

>Single core hasn't mattered in two decades
Depends what you're doing. Ideally, you have good performance both for single-threaded and multithreaded code, and you're efficient enough that you don't get thermally throttled (with the help of whatever your cooling solution is).
From a software perspective, best is if you can do your thing quickly and let the computer go back to sleep, but not all apps can possibly work that way.

Crazy good battery life on laptops but Linux arm support is still dogshit for now. That will change soon though. Steams new headset means arm support is coming to arch. If I can still run all my basic dev tools on arm then I'm sold. I don't need power on a laptop I need thin, light, and long battery life, but I'm not giving up arch for it.

x86 is basically the SUV, and I mean the real SUVs you take into the jungles of Africa. Not the metrosexual upgraded station cars from the past two decades.

ARM is like the kei cars in Japan.

Most people have no need for an SUV and prefer the low (running) cost of a kei car. Not saying it's a good development but it is what it is.

I've mentioned before that I know I objectively have it better than most people, and that the grass almost certainly isn't greener on the other side, yet I still can't help the way that I feel sometimes. I think it's more that I just hate work in general, no matter what job I would be doing. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if I was working on a project I actually cared about, and had the power to make actual decisions about that product, and got to stay with it from start to finish so that it feels like it's something I made to fulfill a specific purpose, but that rarely ever happens. I get shuffled around on projects, the big decisions are made by customers and executives, and oftentimes the projects even get canned before they even make it to completion. After it happens so many times, it makes it impossible to give a damn about anything you work on any more and you start to wonder why you even bother. So you just show up for the paycheck and do the bare minimum to not get fired, while also trying to find some way to preserve your sanity.

First world problems. These people grew up in comfortable environments, have only worked ever in tech, and have never lifted a finger to do any manual labor before. They have delusional fantasies of other jobs being better when in reality they're often a lot worse.
>>
>>107747619
For me, it's more of a desire for something less stressful and high-pressure. Doesn't even have to be garbage or ship keeper, even something in computers without the intensity would be fine. I'm good at coding and system design and all of that, and I can with deadlines even as long as I have time to think.
But when I'm on call, the entire week is just a panic attack broken up by thoughts about kms. I don't react well to that kind of stress. I know I'm pathetic, but I'm just not up to it.
>>
>>107747934
I actually have worked manual labor in a warehouse and food service. I worked those jobs from the end of high school to the end of college and the first 1.5 years after college. It's somewhat rose tinted glasses but I do miss the physical exhaustion after a 10-12 hour warehouse shift rather than the mental exhaustion of my tech job.
