>After almost five decades on air, the future of satellite TV remains uncertain beyond 2029 with broadcasters reluctant to commit to the platform for longer.

A decision needs to be made within the next two years if satellite TV services from Sky and/or Freesat will continue. That’s because the current fleet of satellites are reaching their end of life dates and any replacement satellite needs to be commissioned at least three years in advance.

it's affordable, companies just hate spending money. why do you think so much runs on "legacy" tech? modernizing requires a big investment, maintaining junk is a small amount every year forever. if you have one "bad" quarter because you dug a bunch of holes, the board and/or shareholders will sack you. they can stomach constant maintenance more easily because it doesnt make number go not up as much

>because you constantly talk about things you don't understand
yeah, right. its always my fault so I better stop talking altogether.
It actually doesn't matter even if I stop doing that because its something else entirely.
>>
>>106518469
Not the same guy
Stop playing the vicitm and acting all woe as me. You are at fault because you talk about things you don't understand. Then when you're called out on it you double down and make it worse for yourself. If you didn't do this people wouldn't be mad at you
>>
>>106518488
>Stop playing the vicitm and acting all woe
I'm not.
The fact is, all my haters have got nothing concrete to pin against me apart from my recent post about using validation layer for profiling, which could have been totally avoided if I bothered to type but I didn't because I was lazy, so its like I bought this upon myself.
>Then when you're called out on it you double down and make it worse for yourself

>I'm going to keep it real with you, I've developed a realtime SVG renderer myself and I think you're in it for the wrong reasons
I'll need more than the 2k limit to clear up this kind of misunderstandings from happening in the first place.
The thing prior to this would be late polling and that really reduces latency, though most might not agree with me, it really does.
>If you didn't do this people wouldn't be mad at you
I really would love to believe that but that isn't the case. Its much more than that. Its literally Chris Pratt's "but you fuck one pig" joke.
I won't be replying from on, not because I'm a victim but because I got other, better things to do.

Microsoft is rewriting all of Windows in Rust and is going to begin to force hardware vendors to do the same. What a fucking clown world. Technology is over. This affects more than just Windows. It'll affect Linux drivers as well that hardware vendors provide. It's pretty much over for computing at this point. Rust is a cancer that has spread and we're now terminal.

hello, /g/oblins
I am passionate about free as in freedom software. I am seeking a coreboot-compatible laptop with modern/high specs which will remain high end for a few years, and preferably something that I can upgrade myself to save some money. The best I have found so far is the Clevo V560TU, which is a white label model that online retailers ship in various configurations. A barebones version with an Intel 255H is about $1300 from what I've seen, and it's upgradeable to 96GB RAM (though one site suggests it's 128GB), and it also has two nvme slots, which is a nice bonus. It sometimes comes with coreboot preinstalled (although I can do that myself if I find a cheaper config). Other benefits include an optional lower resolution screen (1920x1200 as opposed to 2k/4k) which is more compatible with some privacy respecting OS's, and there is an option to remove the webcam/mic entirely, which I appreciate. Who even uses those on laptops?

Here is an example of this machine:
https://laptopwithlinux.com/product/clevo-v560/

Questions:
- Why does this one state expandable up to 128GB RAM when most others I can find (same white label model?) are listed as 96?
https://www.hidevolution.com/evoc-high-performance-systems-v5602b-v560tu-16-fhd-ultra-7-225h-intel-arc.html
- Is this the best laptop for my purposes?
- Why don't these seem to offer the 275HX? Isn't it the same socket? Only 1xx, 225h, and 255h for this specific model seem to be available.
I found the above alternative on this page, which has some 275HX models--are any of them good for coreboot?https://www.hidevolution.com/laptops-1/gaming-enthusiast/evoc-clevo

Is there a ThinkPad that does this but better or cheaper?
>>
why doesn't anyone care about coreboot on /g/ anymore
>>
>>106516088
>freeboot
>high end
kek

Why do you only care about specific blobs and not nothers? What about microcode in your cpu for example?

If you actually wanted a fully blobfree system you'd have to use hardware that's over a decade old, like a core 2 duo or phenom ii, and mod the bios.

Unless I am misunderstanding your goals?

You might be better off checking out the new risc-v laptops.

Because the way to get "internet security" is not to use it for secure comms at all, ever. Before the internet was an option the world still turned just fine.

Computers easily bait the arrogant into self-snitching.They're too weak for self-discipline so they build placebo devices to feel special.

>stdint exists
Should have been the default.

>unity builds
That doesn't solve anything with build system mess
>bootstrapping your builds with c itself exists
no, how is that simple?

The biggest pain is trying to use projects that are designed for different build systems as dependencies.
Instead of being able to use one build system, you need to use different ones for different components.
e.g. I have an Unreal project that uses a custom C library as a dependency which itself depends on libjpeg-turbo.
libjpeg-turbo offers files for CMake, which I use to build my library and then copy over to Unreal to build with UBT.
There is no consistency, even though they use the same compiler (MSVC) underneath for both C/C++.
And you see this sort of thing with many large C/C++ projects: weird build system stuff to implement non-standard patterns.

C is great as long as you are 90th percentile programmer. Most programmers are too retarded to code in C without memory vulnerabilities.

Go will replace C++/Java, not Rust. Rust is too hard and too long to learn for normies.

I'm tired of two-factor authentication being shoved into everything now, it's ridiculous. Why should I have to use my email to activate an account for a service that has nothing online, or at least shouldn't, and won't be using any of my personal information? Why should I use 2FA at all?
It's clear they're just harvesting extra information to sell, since that's all everything does online. I tried looking up more information for evidence on this though, because whenever I bring this up I get almost exclusively redditors with their BUT POOFACTOR AUTHENTICATION IS GOOD FOR YOU YUM YUM YUM PBBBBT I LOVE POOPIE fucking idiots, fucking low IQ vermin. I would pray for the whole downfall of Earth just so that those wall-eyed sycophant cretins would die out but I know they're too moronic to even understand true misery and would likely be ignorant of it even happening. God I wish visiting Reddit gave you aggressive anal cancer. Please lord, Please Jesus Christ. I have never asked anything of you but this.

Please fellow journeymen of /g/, pray as hard as possible with me for this to happen to them.

Anyway, it's clear to me that shit like this will continue to trifle with the quality of the internet because of them eating it all up. You soon won't be able to get online without fully confirming your identity and signing off DNA rights to GayBlackLovers Corp.
>>
>>106518625
I ain't reading all that shit OP. But count yourself lucky for email 2FA. Theres a few online services I'm not even allowed to use because I don't have a cell phone to use for 2FA.

He let AI and VR slip. Apple is on maintenance mode with no new innovation.

The mobile business is much worse in regards to innovation than Mac. At least we got apple silicon 5 years on the Mac. Windows 11 is in a much worse state than Mac OS is.

AGI is never happening, is it?
No matter how much compute they throw at the problem, there is always another trivial task they are spectacularly retarded at

I dunno, if you told anyone 5 years ago that AI would take most artists jobs they’d think you’re crazy but now gen AI can produce in a minute a piece that is better than what 95% of artists can manage. The progress is clearly there even if there is some stuff it’s still bad at.
>>
>>106518600
That's why I said AGI. So far a general intelligence is extremely elusive. Any of these models embodied in the physical world would fail at so many tasks we find trivial.

Don't buy anything OTHER THAN IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T, X, and W/P Series if you want the Real Business Experience™
>Other business laptops are welcome in /tpg/ (Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook)

Why ThinkPad?
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap
>Excellent keyboards, tactile feel and quiet + the TrackPoint
>Great durability: magnesium roll cage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop
>Easy to repair (most models), upgrade & maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model, spare parts easy & cheap to obtain
>Excellent Linux & *BSD support

The Sircles CEO is a egomaniacal schizo. It's not clear to me that he actually knows he's scamming people but he's a massive retard. Secondhand info I've gotten suggests that he apparently has never had a business plan. When he was asked once about a business plan, he pointed to some kid in the office and said "he's good with computers" and that's the closest thing he's ever had.
Same guy apparently has a tendency to threaten employees.

All the same people who do Sircles are also Tech2U owners. Apparently Tech2U is morally bankrupt as a company. Another ex employee told me once they had him do the same service call to a dementia patient like 6 times because the guy couldn't remember and kept calling. When he spoke up about it, they told him it wasn't his place to have an opinion
>>
>>106518397
Oh also. Same CEO allegedly would bring suspiciously young girls into the office on rotation. Like changed on a weekly basis type thing. Same guy was accused of having a coke addiction. There's something super suspicious about that whole sect.
