What type of pcie slot does an e14 gen 3 have? I was gonna get a replacement ssd for it since I'm not getting a pc anytime soon, but if it's not a x4 I'm just gonna sell it and buy a different laptop entirely then.

How do you guys deal with the fact the good hardware is disappearing in general? We got to face the fact that for all their durability old "classic" Thinkpads will not last forever. They will eventually break. And it's getting harder and harder to find replacements. Nobody is making more of them. Nobody is manufacturing FRUs for old models anymore. Same for accessories. Seems impossible to find a x220/x230 slice battery nowadays.
Not to mention software bloat exploding and trying to make these devices obsolete.
It all begs the question: what will we move to 10 years from now? What about 15 or 20? Just move along to any Carbon slop they will probably turn into another macbook knock off 3 or 4 years from now?
Where do we go from here?

That's funny, because even though I'm not an engineer or a politician, I knew from the beginning that it was a stupid idea and that they were going to change their mind sooner or later. It's just common sense at this point. If common sense becomes illegal then so be it. Yes the EU is super corrupt and incompetent, and it was a big fucking mistake to let it take the reigns of europe, there's no denying at this point.

The best and brightest C programmers agree: Rust belongs in the Linux kernel!
https://lwn.net/Articles/1049831/
This board tries it's best to portray C and Rust as polar opposites, but in the end they serve the same purpose. Good C programmers have always respected Rust programmers and vice versa. Only the fizzbuzzers and jeets want a language war between C and Rust.

Why do they want it? Because if you split the systems language ecosystem, there will be less competition to their electron/react garbage (see Windows 11 start menu)
Everyone except Indians agrees that anything written in Rust or C is much better than electron garbage. That is why it is important to be friends and allies, not enemies

It’s hard to find a proponent of AI *and* Rust,
Because if AI was real it could just fix or annotate C programs with any potential memory faults making Rust wholly unnecessary. Well, more wholly necesary than it already is.

Probably freebsd. Isn’t netbsd more or less dead?
Everyone complains about the rust gnu utilities but i’m still bitching about the bloated-ass gnu utilities themselves and their fucked C style, so I run the originals whenever possible. The one true awk, the actual bourne shell, heirloom, suckless, many of the original bsd quasijarus standard binaries, etc.

Sounds silly but you have tried waiting? I remember the first time I downloaded Mint it looked like it was stuck but it loaded after a while. You could also try installing the Cinnamon version again, it worked for me when the black screen thing happened once.

>screen tearing issue
X11 issue. I ad the same problem when I used Mint. The only solution that worked was switching to Wayland, but Mint's Wayland is still experimental. Mint unfortunately is behind in many display features.

>Sounds silly but you have tried waiting?
Well my situation is silly.
I'm not sure if it is a hardware problem like I somehow messed up the graphics card slotting in my PC.
But how long should I wait?

>You could also try installing the Cinnamon version again
I'll install the Linux Mint Cinnamon edition in the USB again.

>X11 issue
>The only solution that worked was switching to Wayland

I did a quick search and apparently the main Ubuntu distro uses Wayland so I'll give that a try.

Apple blocks dev from all accounts after he tries to redeem bad gift card

>Apple has blocked a long-time developer from his Apple ID after he failed to redeem what support suggested was a dodgy $500 gift card, leaving him unable to work, cut off from personal files, and barred from what he calls his "core digital identity."

>This isn't just any developer, either: The unlucky Apple aficionado in this case is Dr. Paris Buttfield-Addison, a Tasmania-based computer scientist who co-founded an award-winning game development company and has written multiple books on developing for Objective-C, the Swift programming language, and iOS.

>"I have effectively been an evangelist for this company's technology for my entire professional life," Buttfield-Addison said in a blog post detailing his struggle with Apple's account system.

>According to Buttfield-Addison, his account was flagged as "closed in accordance with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions" recently. The only thing he can link the issue to is his recent purchase and attempt to redeem a $500 Apple gift card to use to pay for his 6TB iCloud+ storage plan, which he said failed when he attempted to activate it.

>Buttfield-Addison contacted the retailer, an unnamed "major brick-and-mortar retailer," which reissued the code after suggesting it may have been compromised. Shortly after that, he was locked out of his account.

>The Apple developer said that he's been signed out of iMessage, can't access his iCloud account, is unable to access terabytes' worth of family photos stored on Apple servers, and has basically been blackballed from the Apple ecosystem.

>"My iPhone, iPad, Watch, and Macs cannot sync, update, or function properly," Buttfield-Addison said. "I have lost access to thousands of dollars in purchased software and media."
