I've started to realize that "security" and "obsolescence" meaning essentially nothing in modern computing. In fact, they only apply to the mainstream general consumer slaves. Meanwhile the megacorporations with infinite money get to have "emergency" updates and "extended legacy support" until the sun explodes. The most critical infrastructure still runs on XP and 7 because there's literally nothing but problems that could arise from trying to modernize that stuff. Boeing airliners still use 386 processors for fuck's sake. And there's nothing wrong with that, it's actually a good thing. But for some reason... John the 60yo boomer absolutely *needs* Copilot and Windows 11 to work with old Excel files. It's all so tiresome.

I'm way out of storage with my b450 tomohawk mobo. (4 SATA / 1 M.2) and that's the max limit. I've been looking for a sata to replace it but holy fuck that area seems way overpriced ($400+ for a 2tb). M.2 seems viable but I'm not sure if I can technically use an pcie adapter. Can someone check for me?

Are tiling windows managers are dead meme? I remember five years ago when everyone and their bf were "optimizing their workflows" with twm(s) and 'vim everywhere' setups. Where are the now? Using Gnome, KDE, or XFCE. Only trannies seem to be interested in twm(s) these days,
I used to be on the i3 + vim bandwagon, but at some point I tried xfce styled like windows 7 and I was reminded of how comfy computing was back in my college days.I'm old, so I don't need an excuse to keep chasing the new shiny thing anymore.
>>108531665>xfce styled like windows 7Where do I find this?
>>108531741Mostly on https://www.xfce-look.org/.Aerobird themeWin7-plasma5up-scalable-icontheme-blackysgate iconswindows-cursorssegoe ui and consolas for fontsone of the wallpapers that came with win 7There's better solutions out there, but I settled for this for now until I feel autistic enough to refine it further.
As far as I know, only i3wm is the non meme tiling wm because it supports tab layouts out of the box. What mostly matters to me is that I can open terminals into full screen with mod+enter and set the tab layout for all windows in a workspace. I do sometimes view windows side by side but that is rare.

Are you device hoarding? I bought a used Samsung S24 on eBay because I wanted a better camera and battery life for my vacation. I just sold my old S21 FE to someone else. Why would you spend $1k for a brand new device that is only marginally better than older models? Plus I'm saving the planet by reusing old devices.
>>108525913In the Android space, this is DIRECTLY caused by the removal of features:>no 3.5mm headphone jack>no SD card slot>bootloader locked, not unlockable>now Google killing sideloadingWhy would anyone want to upgrade everPeople are using old phones that still have these features. When will big corpo get the message of the free market?
>>108526837Yeah but corpo jorpo needs you to buy 2 of the pro version of the new model wont somebody think of the bonuses?!
>>108530808Nobody cares about those features outside of /g/My parents have an iPhone 14 Pro and an S23, they aren't upgrading due to cost and the fact that their current phones are good enough.

I hate buying new devices. I always end up having to research shit for over a week before I have a slightest idea if it will be decent and it always ends up with some quirk I have to bear with.

Humanoid robots make NO sense whatsoever. A vanity project at best. A robotic arm on wheels or TARS is the most optimal design.
>>108525690blocks your path
>>108524449a robotic arm on wheels isn't going to climb through an attic or crawlspace to run your cables or ac ductwork. humanoid robots are designed to replace humans, therefor they look like humans even if they do actions and movements humans are incapable of.
roboctopi are clearly the ultimate endgame in functional robotics. 8 arms? theyre non-rigid and can conform to arbitrary holds? theyre stable? they can hang?there are optimal forms, and humans are not one of them.
