>Steven Bartlett, the founder and host of The Diary of a CEO podcast, took a chance on an applicant with a virtually blank CV for that very reason.>“I hired someone who’s CV was two lines. Their experience was zero,” Bartlett explained in a recent LinkedIn post. “Much of the reason why I gave her the job was because: She thanked the security guard by name on the way into the building.”>“When she didn’t know something, in the interview she said ‘I don’t know that yet, but here’s how I’d figure it out,’” Bartlett explained. “After the interview she went and self-taught herself the answer she didn’t know, and emailed it to me within hours.”>The founder took a chance on the experience-less candidate, and it didn’t take long to pay off; Bartlett said that six months later, she has proved herself as one of the best hires he’s ever made. “Fifteen years of hiring has taught me that culture fit and character is MUCH harder to hire than experience, skills or education.” https://fortune.com/2026/01/08/diary-of-a-ceo-founder-steven-bartlett-hired-someone-zero-work-experience-thanked-security-guard-before-interview/

They need to make a 100% flicker free OLED for me to consider buykng an OLED. The automatic brightness dimming also sucks for preserving creators intent. I want stable and predictable brightness even if using HDR.
>>107848010Are you being obtuse on purpose? Windows doesn't show you the brightness slider unless you're on a laptop, despite the monitor being perfectly capable of being controlled over DDC/CI, it's a design decision not to expose that control.KDE doesn't have that problem.

I guess I have MW4 to thank for my fondness for the number pad. I had never played a game with controls that complicated, and when Dad first got the game installed, I was furious when I began the tutorial. It seemed impossible. I was used to just arrow keys to move, and space bar to shoot. Dad did the tutorial for a minute or so, and showed me how to play. Game became my obsession for years. I still hum the soundtrack. And I still like numpads.

Do you think the people at Ableton regret calling their flagship product "Live" given that absolutely no-one calls it anything other than Ableton? It'd be like if everyone called Cubase "Steinberg".

So I ordered a 4K monitor a month ago. It finally showed up in my country last week, but has since not had any updates. I've got one of the previous gen Apple TV 4Ks currently for Plex.I haven't yet tried Swiftfin, but the other day, I was finally watching the latest Monogatari thing and noticed all the signs were weirdly distorted; I thought, "did motbob just fuck up really bad here somehow", then I remembered I was using Infuse -- switched back to Plex (libmpv) and magically everything was perfect. And then last night, on my desktop, I was just opning some DVD as a test, used VLC to check the menus, and I have no idea what was causing it, but it felt like it was stuttering during the demuxing. Again, just opened it in mpv, perfect.I want to switch off of Plex so badly, and I've got a good opportunity this coming week to do it, but man, the idea of exclusively vlckit or Infuse doesn't give me confidence. And from what I could tell, the official Android TV app uses ExoPlayer or something currently? Are there any solid TV interfaces for Jellyfin that are mpv-based under the hood?
>>107831168I haven't ever looked at the Jellyfin codebase, but ORMs are inevitably helll, from my experience, every time. Raw dogging prepared statements is honestly ideal, imo, for maintainability. I'm very surprised every time I've checked in on Jellyfin, there's always some "and we finally switched to EF Core, for real for real this time!" for like four years now.Wtf is the structure of this like? I'm kind of terrified to look; even redoing all the serialization/deserialization for one of the most fucked MMO projects, converting over to Postgres from some ghetto DIY binary-per-player on disk that'd then get passed around over the network to the different worlds, wasn't more than a couple of weeks or so at most.Is there something about their data that makes this way more complex than I'd have imagined, or is this just some scenario where nobody has the motivation to fully commit to it for a month?
Other than for storing videos and photos taken with your phone, is there a reason to even need more than 256GB on a phone? People with more than 256GB, what do you use your extra capacity for not including the videos and photos you take with it?
the videos I put onto it, music, ps1 roms are 700mb a pop, and I did put an LLM on there but didn't get it working
Card storage made this all moot. They removed it just to charge you more for built in storage and force cloud usage where they can have control of your data.
