Use the fucking package no need to configure anything, just use-package after org-transclusion.el and done, I wont be making a pull request to org-transclusion for a while until this thing works flawlessly with the main package. There are some bugs but it's mostly qol stuff and silly shit like the line range thing in the video.

READ THE (temp)WIKI! & help by contributing:
https://igwiki.lyci.de/wiki/Home_server

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

You could use a /8 for your home network if you want. It would not hurt anything other than remembering where shit was. You won't get broadcast spam, you won't get crippling lag, or any other problems. You just won't have any segregation since it's just one big pot. The only reason we subnet on local networks is to have control over what talks to what. This is basic networking. We are not using token ring anymore.
>>
>>107568678
>a /8
Not A /8, multiple /8 - there are like a dozen not publicly used ones assigned to the US DoD
That way you get different networks, enough room for virtually anything in them and feeling like a special snowflake because you single printer lives at 55.5.5.5 or some shit.

I just spent 3 years working with embedded software engineers and there's just not much typing going on. More figuring out why stuff isn't working as expected and waiting 12 minutes for their project to compile and then 10 minutes for the "self-test" on the device to fail. They're extremely slow and are deliberately not writing much code because the code review process discourages it and rather than write anything they'd rather shit up their project with third party libraries (some of which are "generated") that aren't even precompiled (which is why they end up with 1200 file projects that take 12 minutes to compile). That's why AI can't help their productivity, it won't spontaneously convince them to precompile libraries and reduce their number of translation units.

>>107568555
>well it's worth something for the shareholders
And this will return the trillions invested... How?

It's digging big holes. They need to be filled, but people are just building across the span - whilst digging it wider.

>if google can be run with same revenue and half the costs
Now start doing math on what it'll take. Dickhead at screwgle was talking about doubling capacity every 6 month for the next 6 years. What's that going to cost? Especially considering they're at the point of having to build datacenters and powerstations to put the existing stock in...

And lets pretend that's screwgle sorted. What about the other examples?
There is going to be a winner in the "AI Race" and it isn't going to be everybody. Everybody else is losing everything they've thrown in. They may come across the line, but they aint ever getting anything for it.

Open markets are great for numbers who live on paper. However, we’re citizens living in a nation. Economies exist to serve the people who constitute them.

Then why are you in favour of keeping useless jobs that can be replaced by machines? People doing a job that nobody needs them to be doing just for the sake of having a job is people serving the economy, not the economy serving people

I moved to Japan/Tokyo area, and I'm looking for a good hifi tube setup.
I want a turntable and a good disk player that can play hi fidelity formats.
So far the only Japanese brands I'm settled on are an Audiotechnica turntable but I am clueless on tube amps and receivers.

>>107568333
Well I do, I wanted a /g/ opinion. Also most of the people I with aren't audiophiles, which is ironic because I'm a sonar analyst.
Its also super overwhelming, I went to electric city in Akiharaba and it just not the place to be unless you know your shit.
So far the only tube amps made in Japan I know are Luxman and SunAudio. I'm also looking for something used/vintage.
I have stack of magic eye sound level tubes and I've been getting into tube eletronics lately, I'm bulding a magic eye tube sound level bar that looks really nice.

anyone else do DIY stuff as like a way to do programming but without having to touch computers?

i like it but i've realized i really instinctively feel unnerved by working on physical things. programming is still probably more my speed because i can do stupid shit and then start over from scratch without losing anything. with DIY stuff it's less so, like i make 1 tiny mistake and i end up fucking up the whole thing permanently. i had to give up woodworking because it honestly just broke my heart to lose something i really liked. now i mostly just work with prefab style stuff so i can buy replacements. it still sucks but at least i can take a deep breath and think like "ok i can fix this with money" and rationalize it as an expensive lesson

>>107568311
>>107568363
yea whenever my PR grows beyond a certain point and code reviewers get ideas for additional features i say "sure but for another PR". i have had this PR with probably 2k lines changed and 30 edited json files stuck in review hell for like half a year because no one wants to review it anymore
