Yeah it is, mostly since I moved to a small city while my job is in a big city. I'm even giving a friend money, slightly more than the minimum wage.

>tell me something i wouldnt know about VSTs
I've done a pretty good job of avoiding using DAWs, only using Renoise and Reaper for testing (but mostly SAVIHost for convenience) and Ableton Live sometimes too, so I don't know all that much about how they work, I only concern myself with the programming and basic testing aspects, and I didn't even use the VST 2.x API directly because I used a multi-target library (iPlug/WDL, but next time I'll probably use CPLUG) to also make AudioUnit plugins.

Conceptually it's easy to do, the sound is processed through a callback (you get an input sound buffer and an output sound buffer to fill up) and with the window/interface you can do whatever you want, either create your own window or use the handle provided by the host and then you can even do hardware accelerated graphics with that.

Why did the keytar flop so bad? It looks just as cool as a guitar and is a superior instrument in every way
6 replies omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>106961045
polyphonic aftertouch and mpe could help make it more expressive.

but i think the failure of the keytar is that it changes the entire way the instrument is played
>>
>>106962318
I mean, not really. Your right hand stays the same, all that changes is your left hand is used for expression, which isn't much different to monophonic synths.

It is kind of crazy that we haven't really improved on the piano layout since the harpsichord though.
>>
>>106962207
>>106962289
One handed is not as ridiculous as you might think. In general, the left hand in piano music is in charge of holding down the bass line and supporting chords while the right hand is what plays the melody. In a band setting, your left hand is often unused because guitars and bass will cover that part and generally (not always) the timbre from those instrument is preferable. So this just means you'd be playing some melody line with only your right hand anyway. Instead of hiding in the back, you can shred some cool scales on the keytar in front of an audience with just your right hand. Obviously this doesn't work if your keyboard part is full of a bunch of chords that need to be played with both hands but for many genres of music that's not the case.

I haven't seen anybody talking about this so I'll make it known here.
Unlike in the EU, you won't be able to claim it directly from Windows Settings, but you can forcibly open the enrolment page by opening this link:
>ms-settings:windowsupdate-esu?OCID=WEB_EOS_CY25_ESU&source=WEB
I don't know if it works in other countries, but I've tested this on multiple machines in Australia and can confirm that this will instantly enrol you into ESU without having to pay Microsoft or sync your data. Since it's consumer ESU, I assume it's only valid for a year.

Got myself a YIHUA 929DV desoldering pump.
Have had an eye on it since that one anon praised it so much, got it for 15€ with coins, not as cheap as that anon said (I think he said 13$) but given that it will make a task I don't particularly enjoy (desoldering) a bit less painful that seemed like a fair price.
Suction is better than I feared, close to the mechanic clones.
I don't really have something I need to desolder at the moment, so I can't say how well it works, but I'm confident it'll be better than the alternatives (both the 5€ mains powered ones and the manual pumps).
The next step up would be a 948 style soldering gun and those start at 115€, so this feels like a comfortable spot to be for someone like me who desolders occasionally but not enough to justify professional equipment.
Only fear is that the nozzle is very small, I guess that's not as much of an issue since the solder will be liquid from the heating, but it still feels like it may cause issues with clearing clogging.

>They built an OCR system that compresses long text into vision tokens literally turning paragraphs into pixels.
>Their model, DeepSeek-OCR, achieves 97% decoding precision at 10× compression and still manages 60% accuracy even at 20×. That means one image can represent entire documents using a fraction of the tokens an LLM would need.
>Even crazier? It beats GOT-OCR2.0 and MinerU2.0 while using up to 60× fewer tokens and can process 200K+ pages/day on a single A100.
>This could solve one of AI’s biggest problems: long-context inefficiency.
>Instead of paying more for longer sequences, models might soon see text instead of reading it.

>>106960932
Seems to me like the kind of web dev that you do is "solved" and in that case I'd argue: You have not been doing anything that was not "solved" before. Remember web page templates from like 20 years ago? Even then I wondered why *anyone* would ever pay a coder to create a webpage for them when you've got ready to use stuff for free around. A solved problem, yet designers did not go out of business and they "brought" us all the glory of the mega large whitespace/padding big font no border flat design that we have all grown to love just so much.
