I miss when most distros didn't have working wifi out of the box and you had to tool around finding the firmware for your adapter

Now a Debian install takes the better half of 10 minutes.
It should take an evening.

Has Arch been lobotomized the same way? should I switch?

Install Gentoo
>>
>>106497862
Arch always had better hardware suppport.
Both newer kernel and lack of aversion from proprietary firmware. Debian's DFSG was the reason for most of the issues you mentioned but starting with debian 12 they made an exception for non-free firmware, separated it into a different repo, and now it's enabled by default.

Practicing yeetcodes (I look at the answers if I don't get it in 5 minutes) and relearning C++. My current job is stable but it teaches me NOTHING. I have 3 YOE and nothing to show for it. I have yet to see a job posting I will be suitable for out of the thousands I checked. Sure I can just lie my way into an interview but if they have any shred of competency then they will expose me on the spot.
I am relearning C++ because literally the only job posts I see where they don't demand expertise with 10000 libraries and frameworks are just C++ jobs that just want familiarity with Linux and multithreaded coding lol.

I would rather buy something than have a fucking ads and spyware. You know that you actually "buy windows license" if you buy a prebuilt or laptop? Windows is not "free" unless you assembled your PC from parts and got your iso from whatever place.

Microsoft benefits from not gatekeeping the system from "pirates", because it's better for them if more people use Windows rather than Linux. These people probably use Windows for work which means their business computer has a license paid by their employer. If more people used Linux at some point employers would do too. It's basically costs saving so there is at least one argument for it.

FAQ:
>How do I activate Windows?
HWID2 generates and registers a permanent legitimate license on MS's activation servers
github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
Usage: paste this into Powershell, run.
irm https://get.activated.win | iex

>and Office?
Same link, select Ohook option
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

dism /capture-image
and
dism /apply-image
is the "approved" way of doing it with inbox tools.
If you're smart enough to set up a VHD native boot,
wbadmin start backup -include:C: -systemState
will do it the job.
If you're not smart (or simply want a GUI), go third-party with Macrium Reflect.

I remember hearing of another emulator called Nox which is fairly easy to defang apparently. Turning on root mode and removing a bunch of things using .apk installed launchers and file explorers that aren't bloaty spyware, then putting a bunch of the telemetry addresses in hosts.txt to block them.

The Triton MP controllers that are used in WD and SanDisk SSDs are just licensed and slightly modified Phison controllers, and have the same flaws as the originals.
Indeed, the flaws in Phison controllers that 24H2 exposed were first detected on the WD Blue SN* series.

Microsoft Edge feels so much smoother to use and consumes less battery life than all other browsers on Windows. It's allegedly because of some low level optimizations that they're doing. Why are the other browsers not at least trying to implement similar things?
>>
>>106501310
Because Edge literally runs at system level and is basically a part of Windows itself. Only it can get the kinds of optimizations it can get.

Actual scoop:
- Supreme Court ordered social platforms to register locally by Aug 28 or face shutdown
- 26 platforms blacked out; only TikTok & Viber complied
Gov’t stance on VPNs:
- Official decree labels VPNs “unregistered tunnels” and “cyberthreats”
- State media warns: using VPN is unsafe, illegal, may lead to fines or arrest
Why it matters:
1. Freedom of speech wiped out for 30M Nepalis
2. Creators & small businesses lose income overnight
3. People forced to VPN risk legal trouble on top of surveillance

every distribution I've tried is extremely buggy except for linux mint but I only like KDE
KDE only exists on Debian and Kubuntu. I hate how Debian makes you live with three year old bugs and how the defaults are so completely insane (very ugly GRUB and general configuration) while Kubuntu is often also buggy but you have Snaps on top
I don't want to be a tinkertroon (being a tranny is enough already) and I don't want to spend hours to make a system work well and that's the problem with Arch.
If Linux Mint had a properly implemented KDE version I would use it but it doesn't
KDE has features like not having to use fucking root and a command line to enable a limit to your battery charging and other useful things and I like doing everything from the GUI
I wish there was a KDE distribution with the release cycle of Mint/Kubuntu but without having to spend hours configuring it and fixing things

Just stay on Windows my mate. I'll guarantee you'll suffer less (if you mod it).
Ameliorated Windows for a barebones experience, Open Shell as the vary basic and every possibility in between those two.
Sure, Settings is dogshit but after you set up everything you'll rarely need it.
>>
Most distros are just bloated forks of debian with systemd.

Just use arch. If you really think arch is too terminal based just install octopi.

Arch packages DE's with nice defaults now that are near vanilla of upstream with very little bloat, almost none.

Even their XFCE spin is tastefully vanilla with just the bare minimum XFCE core apps.
