No idea. You'd only need them for legacy hardware anyways, in which case I'd still prefer MS-DOS 6.22.
>>
>>106500672
I know. FreeDOS on the other hand is still maintained today and does have FAT32 support. When I last checked Windows 3.11 couldn't run on top of FreeDOS but anon's screenshot suggests it's been updated to work now. I'd like to know to what extent.
>>
Freedos is not DOS. I don't understand why these shills are even here in the first place.
>>
>>106501281
You wanna know the reason for this thread? OpenAI signed a contract with India to supply ChatGPT programming assistants to Indian students, But Indian students learn C++ with Turbo C++, which is a DOS based IDE from the mid 1990s. Needless to say they'll have a though time retrofitting ChatGPT into an DOS application.
OpenAI's zoomer devs may be experts in pytorch and server infrastructure, but they likely know jack shit about writing against anything legacy like Turbo c++ or dos.

Setup OpenStack and report back.

Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

Replaced a drive in my md RAID 6. Rebuild succeeded and the array is clean. For some reason the new drive did not replace the device number of the old drive. So the list of member disks on /proc/mdstat and mdadm --detail looks like
>sda2[0], sdb2[4], sdc2[2], sdd[3]
Previously sdb2 was device 1, but now it is 4. The old disk was was flagged failed and remove from the array before being physically removed from the server. Is there any way to renumber the drives in mdadm? I suppose this doesn't matter it is more of an OCD thing for me.

Meanwhile on Windows XP Pro....
> Click to open a window, it opens in 0.000003 seconds

> Load anything fast as fuck

There is so much bloat because every fucking thing you do in that operating system is being snapshoted and tracked. It's the spying that slows shit down to a crawl. There is simply no excuse for this shit on modern hardware.

If hardware from 25 years ago can do this in a micro second and modern hardware cant. What does this tell us? There is something dragging the performance down. Just like XP era viruses that turned your machine into a bot net.

I remember hearing of another emulator called Nox which is fairly easy to defang apparently. Turning on root mode and removing a bunch of things using .apk installed launchers and file explorers that aren't bloaty spyware, then putting a bunch of the telemetry addresses in hosts.txt to block them.

The Triton MP controllers that are used in WD and SanDisk SSDs are just licensed and slightly modified Phison controllers, and have the same flaws as the originals.
Indeed, the flaws in Phison controllers that 24H2 exposed were first detected on the WD Blue SN* series.

Microsoft Edge feels so much smoother to use and consumes less battery life than all other browsers on Windows. It's allegedly because of some low level optimizations that they're doing. Why are the other browsers not at least trying to implement similar things?
>>
>>106501310
Because Edge literally runs at system level and is basically a part of Windows itself. Only it can get the kinds of optimizations it can get.

It's one of those chinese android "emulators" that you want to stay away from, if you're privacy-conscious
There are debloat guides for it (also for MEmu and LDPlayer), but one thing is debloating the android environment it virtualizes, and the other is not having the application datamine you and phone home to chinese servers on the windows side of things

You may want to give WSA a try, although MSFT-provided support has been discontinued since March this year: https://github.com/MustardChef/WSABuilds
Google also provides their own stuff with the Google Play Games beta release for PC - you'll be stuck with their games selection, however
>unless you use the developer builds, which should allow APK sideloading
Otherwise not that many choices left that you have: maybe try getting Waydroid to run under WSL2 for lulz?

Why ThinkPad?
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap

the use case for a game engine dev extend beyond just game dev so it makes not pointless.
UE5 was used for mandalorian for doing real time vfx without using a green screen.
Apart form the vfx industry, scientific simulation, automobiles and robotics can make heavy use of game engines in their workflow.

NTA but does zfs support encrypted swap yet or would you need to put lvm on luks first? Only reason i dont use zfs is because encrypted swap doesnt work properly on luks+zfs
>>
>>106501371
Just use ZRAM. No need for encrypted Swap if it never leaves non-persistent storage in the first place.

You couldn't hibernate/resume this way though but realistically you don't need that.
>>
>>106501371
native ZFS encryption with a swap file should be fine.

Anyone with amdgpu PCIe card, can you make the card use less power than 30W when idle? It displays 30W power use even if I set the cap at 10W.
>>
>>106501446
Pretty much every GPU on the market has a minimum power draw. Your GPU seems to require a minimum of 30W. If you want to fuck around and find out you can mod the firmware, but it's very likely that if you manage to reduce the power draw below 20-27W your GPU will just fail to run. The limit is there for a reason.
If you want a low power draw, get a GPU that's rated for TDP under 75W. Those usually have a minimum somewhere between 5W and 15W.

How do you host your websites, /wdg/?

At the moment I'm using free hosting but it has a bunch of limitations so I think I need to pay for something. Here are my two options:

1) Rent a VPS, install Debian, run my website on there
2) Use Heroku because it would be easier

Which option is best?
