Perl is faster than CL for my log parsing needs. Into le trash it le goes
>>106963747Cope. Lisp was never "the very original hacker's language" for the simple reason that GC is too expensive, and the original hacker's languages are exactly the ones that didn't have GC.GC buys you two things, memory safety (not something a hacker would care about) and the ease of using more advanced nested data structures, aka ivory tower theoretical shit. The only true hacker thing about lisp is the macros, and there's a strong argument to be made that lisp macros are "the right thing" and were beaten by "worse is better" macros of C, Forth, C++, and ad-hoc macro-like control flow constructs in languages without any macros.
>>106976177Nigger, the term "hacker" comes from MIT. Guess what programming language and text editor come from MIT too?
>>106975908Isn't perl like purpose-made for shit like log parsing? Also post some code.

It's more useful than a regular search engine if that's how you use it, thanks to paid ranking placement and sponsored results. Otherwise, it depends on what you try to do with it and why you would expect it to be better than doing it yourself

Why have small tablets basically died out? 12 years ago we had stuff like the Nexus 7 and it was great.Nowadays only Apple makes a decently usable small (8 inches or below) tablet, all Android ones have terrible displays and weak specs in general.

I don't know how well a 2015-era Snapdragon would handle with those. But, if you're into using this for media like watching youtube, reading books, or web browsing, it's buttery smooth. I've suggested this tablet for those who just want to use it for basic things and not spend so much, and it's OLED. (most small tablets today are LCD)

Welcome to the 4chan /g/ Usenet General Thread!>What is /usenet/?Open standard protocols still exist and are what the internet was built on (http, irc, rss, ftp, etc). Not owned by corpos, not under govt control, and are accessible to anyone with an internet connection. They simply exist to be built upon and enjoyed by all. Some, like FTP are outdated and insecure. Others, like rss, irc, http, usenet are still glorious and wonderful open standards. Join us and discuss such topics on one such protocol: NNTP, aka usenet.>WTF IS USENETLiterally it means the Users Network. It’s an open protocol for posting and reading messages, organized by newsgroups. It's entirely decentralized, no single server, impossible to take down.Today it is split between, binaries and text. The binaries part is what it’s known for today: piracy. The text part is forgotten and abandoned, until now.>WHY POST ON USENETIt's open protocol, you can use any client you want or build you own. No costs, no subscriptions, no money. You can sign up through your ISP, or through eternal-september.org. Then you just need to install a client.>THIS IS OLDER THAN MY DAD. >>106972944>nothing more thanYou need to look closer, these two are very different.4chan is ephemeral, threads wash out, at times because of people wanting to wash out a thread, but at least 4chan has images. Posters are normally anonymous.Usenet News has much longer activity times, not limited to 10 pages, it is text only and no files or images. Posters are traditionally pseudonymous. All in all I'd say these complement each other and cannot be competitors.

Actually fonts have a lot of science that go into them, they're quire incredible.Berkely Mono - Amazing (Pay to win)Consolas - Best(Free)Verdana - Best(Free)Edges are easier to perceive to humans, so fonts are designed with this in mind.Fonts actually store the method that was used to draw the character so it can be resized *precisely*.A regular resize function doesn't work so well.A lot of tech and science goes into these.
