I use alacritty tmux on sway. It works fine. I confess I can't see a lot of differences using other terminals. I just like that it's minimalist. And easy to setup.
>>
>>108519318
It's agitating, right. The lock is broken in version 6.13, apparently this is a recurring problem. I don't feel right giving this guy anything to do with my passwords. He asking people to trust him in the same way a scammer would. He might as well be telling "I break into peoples houses and piss on their cats! It's totally fine!"

> you can use your window manager to spawn terminals with the specific layout you want.
Or you just use a single tmux session and spawn windows for each task you do whilst being in fullscreen. You see all open windows in the statusbar and their names. You can’t do this in a TWM, instead, you’d have to mod + tag to specific workspaces rather than knowing that all terminals are in workspace 1 inside tmux.

>>108519272
>the documentation which is public is slightly different to how we know things
Nah, you don't get it. There are things that were never documented. At all. Not because everyone there was stupid. But because to make engineer's dream a reality, you need to actually mess around with a huge amount of complicated hardware and raw materials and invent processes that were often overlooked or ignored. Some of those were top secret. And some spicy stuff: some of them were literally stolen by Chinese and destoyed. And this is no joke, I think you can lurk for confirmation that such cases were real.
> also, going to the moon was a heap of shit, nobody fucking ever cared about going to the moon
Bullshit, everyone was scared shitless of artificial satelites. It was like the power of God. Adversary that always holds a load of unknown weapons over your head, every single day. A spy sattelite that can see objects you thought are kept secret, including ICBM silos.
And reputation of the country mattere. In a world that was about to be split apart by two superpowers one just put a man in the outer space. And they were atheists. You do not understand how big it was and how much it mattered for the people of that era.
> idk what this moon shit now is specifically about
Afaik it's about mining materials you cannot get for cheap on Earth. Also processing them without oxygen etc.
But it's sci-fi rn, not proven. Robots different nations send are mostly looking for valuable raw materials.
I've seen some estimations from Chinese, they are literally looking to mine shit there and make profit over here, notihng more to it.

today was one of the weirdest encounters i’ve had at work

i’m a supervisor at a company, and one of the employees i’ve been overseeing for about 4 months uses ubuntu on his work laptop. it was always a bit inconvenient since everyone else uses macs (company provided), so we’d have to deal with flash drives or uploads instead of just airdrop, but whatever — he got his work done so i didn’t care

until today

i gave him something urgent to finish. came back after an hour and asked if he was done. he says he’s “having issues with his OS”

we’re on a tight deadline, so i offer him a spare dell latitude to just get it done quickly

this guy straight up refuses and says “i don’t use this trash”

at that point i don’t even care, i just tell him we need to finish the task NOW. he takes the laptop… and instead of doing the work, he starts trying to install ubuntu on it

that’s when i lost it. like actually what are you doing? you’re on the clock, we’re behind, and you’re reinstalling your favorite OS instead of doing your job

it’s not that deep. in a mac based office people use airdrop for quick file transfers, and internal shares for everything else. different environments use different tools, not everyone’s workflow is the same as yours

Usage: paste this into Powershell, run.

You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal

What distro should I install on this old thinkpad I have from 10 years ago? I’m just looking to use it as a Linux lab of sorts, fucking around with systems stuff like QEMU, initrds, custom kernel modules, networking, PXE, etc. Not sure if any one distro is better than another for this purpose but basically looking for something lightweight and will work well with my old hardware, just werks as I’m not a ricer but rather using this to learn about system internals, and also not locked down in annoying ways that will make it more difficult to play with the stuff I want

>weird how smart engineers always need a dumbass visionary to make them useful
I wouldn't say it's always, but the problem with engineers is that they overestimate their importance and don't take the time to foster relationships with people. If you're not capable of effectively communicating with the common man, then you'll always be shit at business dealings. Elon is an outlier in all regards though. You can try to shit on him for doing or saying dumb things from time to time, but he is more capable than most people on the planet and he certainly knows more about tech/science than your average CEO.

the syntax is clunky as hell: retarded keywords, retarded assignments and assignment operator, no UFCS, has to write the type twice in some cases
no metaproamming or compile time execution
no proper modules and module parameters
primitive type system, no type inference
those alone disqualifies it as modern and ergonomic
