It's not that it doesn't matter. What governments and corporations are doing is wrong but you also have to be realistic. Tech alone won't protect you. They don't even need to actually find anything, if you are important enough they will just say they did and what will you do then?
>your honor, I never even owned an iphone, this evidence is bunk

Defaults exist. Some people are always going to be dissatisfied with whatever default settings a system has. You can't please everyone.

At some level, the end user needs to be responsible for using their device in a way that aligns with their goals. If you care about device security and privacy, then you should take the time to understand your OS, know its settings and defaults, and change what needs to be changed for your usecase.

I'm on GrapheneOS, and I just checked. My notification history is off. I honestly can't tell you if it was off by default, because i got this phone years ago, and the first thing I did was go through the settings and change everything that I wanted to change so the phone would work the way I need it to.

AI does electrical engineering extremely well, power engineers will be fully replaced by 2030. As a field EE and hardware in general is simpler and easier than CS but there are less ways to validate results and software is closed source hence perceived progress is slower, however when it happens it's going to happen instantly and everywhere at once

Asus apparently lets you turn off the shitty CPC vignetting although i haven't found real proof against it
Nu WOLED monitors also have vertical bars baked in the uniformity because they use the edges of the manufactured oled surface that have dogshit uniformity when manufacturing them
For LG monitors are just a side buisness as proven by the banding and them putting CPC and matte on their products, ruining the OLED space with way too bright TVs that have worse white accuracy and near blacks with worse PWM than a 2006 TN TV has become their only goal
>>
>>108573333
I wish that were true, but it's still a plague OLED hasn't solved.
>>
>>108573310
With LG you'll suffer from delamination(increasingly dying pixels at the edges) from oxygen getting inside because the ppl at their indian factory didn't seal the panel properly way before any burn in will become a reality unless you're blasting the brightness and toggle off their bugged static image detection(as you should)
>>
>>108573333
tbf maybe people who max brightness and play retail wow 15 hours a day do get burn-in after 3 months with panels bought for their brightness

Over the past few days I've been going through the various music players on linux and noticed some sound worse than others. Strawberry seems to be the most recommended but it sounds worse to me than audacious does, and I'm pretty sure it's not placebo.
Can any loonix audiophiles chime in? It's not something I'm super anal about but I'm curious about what most people here use assuming you've compared it with the other options.

also shitify doesn't have a decent chunk of the music I listen to, either because it's obscure or other legal bs/license issues.

i'm currently hunting for a good music player. i listen to internet radio a lot so i'd like something with m3u support. i'd also like it to be cli, but it seems like none of the popular cli players have m3u support. i get that i can just use a dedicated program for radio, but it would be nice to have everything in one place. audacious seems to be my best bet but like i said, i would really prefer for it to be cli. i would use audacious if the winamp skin wasn't so horrible on sway though
>>
>>108573516
pretty sure deadbeef can play radio and iirc it has a console based ui too but haven't checked it in a bit.

I recently discovered that my body weight is equivalent to that of roughly 2.6 fully-loaded (dual-processor, watercooled) Power Mac G5 workstations, which weigh 44.5 pounds (20.2 kilograms) per unit. That's what my secondary desktop is, actually. My father got one from work a long time ago. It's very difficult to move though, and the heat pouring out of it makes me sweaty and uncomfortable.

no idea but try pausing it at 50% and waiting a little over 24 hours and resuming. i think mega also has their own downloader you might be able to use or something, not sure if it works around that though. afaik their limits were just per-day.

The limit, at least for NBP, is 5 gens/hour for registered accounts. It used to be possible to bypass it just by using a private session or another account, but they've placed an IP limit recently, so one needs to use a VPN to bypass that... IIRC unregistered users get only 3 gens/hour, so keeping at least one secondary account might be useful (I only get one myself).
>>
>>108573109
I made an account on the site, I don't know if that counts as "registered" or not.

Hot take: scheduling is a lot less important than writing code that doesn't constantly run into memory stalls. You can assign 100% of your CPU to shitty code and still yield worse results than a thread that runs 1% of the time, but doesn't constantly have to wait for memory.
>>
>>108573186
not agreeing or disagreeing, but what makes you believe that?
>>
>>108573422
Because the kernel is not going to re-schedule a thread that's stalling for memory, because mode switching is more expensive than simply waiting it out - and context switching (i.e. switching to a thread of another process altogether) is about a thousand times more expensive than mode switching.
That's the entire rational behind hyper-threading - that you have hardware support for switching threads of the same process without having to tap into the kernel.

>>
>>108565643
ID even had to write their own installer/setup program. We all had to do literally everything by hand back then. I miss it bros
>>
>>108564921
Take the size of the program code in the executable file. Most compilers pack it together. There are toy and specialised ones that dump everything into the shared mess of data and code in the order following the C source, but games were note made with those.

Take the cache line or memory bus width for intended hardware at the time of release.

Divide the former by the latter, get the true and correct number of machine code lines.
>>
>>108569266
i always found it curious how this game chugs as the car goes past the camera during replays/demos, since i'm used to it being faster as there's less to render. is it because the sudden camera flip means it needs to quickly load in a different part of the map?
loved this game as a kid, didn't know there was a decomp. can it run it at high resolution? my computer back then was too slow to run it at it's own max 640x480 resolution
>>
>>108571491
You got it, the game renders more of the track in the direction you're facing. So, camera flips around and it immediately has to do a bunch of calculations. These webms are actually old and taken from the original running in dosbox, the decomp/port doesn't have the same issue when running natively and can even render the entire track at once with no lag. Resolution is still currently 640x400 or optionally 320x200, but someday when I have time to fuck with it again I will implement hardware rendering which can be any resolution. You can kinda see how that would look with the track editor software which is all opengl.
