that is what you get when you attempt to preserve all local industries and to capture all the ones you don't have. you are closed to everyone coming in but not the other way around. and the world is indeed moving towards mercantilism ie. the china way because all the world leaders today have china envy.
>>
>>108354077
>mercantilism implies closed, self-reliant economies
Yeah that's obviously where the world is going. Global supply chains are breaking down, currencies are weaponized, energy is under biggest sanctions ever. Why is this confusing to you who apparently studied economics

Got one of their dive computer models for 350€ and it's unbeatable at this price.
Battery lasts for 3 weeks, has all of the instinc product line features, dives to 100m and even supports trimix, so it can be a good backup to a more serious computer if you get into deco diving

bought Fenix 5S Saphire a year ago for 60€, new battery was 20€
replaced myself to make it last longer, since watch was already kinda old
for 80€ - it does everything I need (show time, track my hikes)
Casio can only show time, costs a lot, and even GSchocks don't come with Saphire glass
there are few interesting Casios, but majority can be replaced by SMKEI from Aliexpress for 1/10th the price

I just bought one and it's unironically the best monitor I've ever used in my life. Nothing else comes even close to the quality of this thing. And that's not even considering the build quality of the stand and how smooth the height adjustment is. How is it that Apple always so far ahead of the entire computer industry with their high end products?
41 replies and 5 images omitted. Click here to view.
>>
So many impoverished thirdies sperging in any thread that mentions Apple products that cost over $1,000.
>>
>>108347026
They get paid for that. Nobody is spending thousands anymore on Apple's overpriced crap to do things a windows/linux machine can do for much cheaper.
>>
>>108351252
what is it used for?
>>
>>108351356
>These might be better for hollywood postprod
They're used across more than just the film industry anon, and yes that's the point. For professional work, they're better. Professional equipment is designed for professionals and filled with technology that professionals want and need to do their jobs, and built to a higher spec. The mac monitor is a consumer monitor for non-professionals. It's "usable" in that domain, but like the other anon said it'd be mid shit missing the vast majority of things you want out of your gear. The bump from 4k to 5k and double the refresh rate is nothing, it literally does not matter. It does not improve the quality of the monitor for professional work. Everything else is basic.
>there is *zero* actual 5k120hz monitors on the market
Because it's weird configuration. 5k is a meme resolution that offers no real benefit over 4k unless the DPI is <100 or something. Consumer grade monitors have screamed past 120hz as well. It has high peak brightness, but 1000cd/m2 is what you can expect out of it, and that's pretty bog standard. The color gamut and accuracy is regular high end consumer crap and the viewing angles aren't anything special either. If they had released an 8k@120hz monitor with these specs, and drove it via their own proprietary video signal, that might be worth writing home about. As it stands? It's not that impressive honestly. Just another generic high end consumer monitor in the pile.

At least it doesn't have smart features.

unsolicited opinion: computers are easy. linux is easy. we wear gigabytes of ram and dualcore cpus on our wrists now. but through the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, computers held this mystic enigma in most normies. it is this mysticism which keeps people afraid and even enamoured with computers. it is also this mysticism that causes companies and video channels like “tech tips” to even exist. why would you need tech tips if you understood how computers work? there’s no youtube channel called “pissing and shitting tips”, everyone knows how to do that. subconsciously or not, linus has a vested interest in maintaining the mysticism that surrounds computers. it’s an extremely easy thing to install linux on a computer. technically easier than windows as there’s no registration. and partly why he hates apple computers so much, as they’re so easy to use, normies have no need for a talking head on youtube to give them Technology Tips (TM) on sending an imessage. linus is either an idiot or pretending to be an idiot. it is in his interest to maintain the idiocy surrounding computers

the difference is that they had no use for it themselves. and while sure getting popular thing because it's popular thing is pretty normal, that's not enough of a reason by itself considering how expensive it was. again we weren't rich. the house i grew up in was made in the late '50s, complete with external wood fired heater for hot water. my parents drove cars from the '80s (my dad upgraded to a second hand one from '96 later, but when i left home in 2010 my mum was still using that '80s car), etc. not to sound like i'm complaining or anything, i enjoyed going with my mum to garage sales and flea markets, they're where i picked up all my early computer parts and stuff (i had a room full of old computer parts before the family computer)
>>
>>108352815
There is saying
>It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it
Computers were pretty amazing at the time and people were sold the idea that they would replace everything
>>
>>108352008
same, I remember my parents taking money from my piggy bank to buy smokes and hocking the TV to make rent and never owning anything better than a second hand magna. But somehow they were able to afford a PC. I guess I am thankful it is the one luxury we did have because it forced me to have to wring every drop of entertainment I could out of it, and now I am a professional computer autist
>>
>>108352821
yea, but that is like the one popular big item they kept paying for (due to the internet subscription)
they tested out other things, like the pay tv i mentioned, but also for example we rented a playstation during the '90s twice that i remember, but they never bought one, i bought one with my own pamphlet run money in 2000 when the PSOne came out (the cheaper, slim version). i'm sure part of it was just "if you want extras you need to earn/pay for them yourself", kind of parenting stuff. my mum worked at the bank and at that point my dad ran a home business so they were both very familiar with handling money.
i'm sure a lot was intentional, and they did pretty well, i both never felt poor nor spoiled, and i enjoyed what i had as much as one could. if anything i'm thankful, i know now what it's like to have access to "too much", like once i discovered piracy, it really makes it hard to truly get into something like you do when it's all you have, you know?

I don't get it
if it's stable that means everything works, right?
>>

-- like even for software not like steam where you don't want third parties making packages/distributing it (steam can be found in other distro's repos as steam itself is freely distributable), making separate packages for a few distros isn't hard at all, it can be the same exact software just with a few automated commands to turn it into different package types. or use a generic installer (like GOG games do) or use a generic bundle format like appimage

i will add that only having one distro won't help linux in general, one of the benefits of linux is that it is an ecosystem that be moulded to fit many more uses than desktop windows can (i say desktop windows but is windows ce even a thing anymore?)
>>
>>108354441
unless you're using brand new hardware that actually needs a new kernel/mesa/etc, or you just need newly made features/want the best possible performance... yea most people are perfectly fine using a stable/lts distro, and given no specific requirements i would recommend one by default
>>
>>108354441
debian right? theres a lack of contributors, the bug report system is dogshit, and the people meant to accept proposed packages and updates dont do their job half the time
a stable distro will still have somewhat outdated packages but with debian they are way more outdated for these reasons afaik

All those are easy and logical steps. Question is how would one combat spam/jailbait and finance the whole thing? I guess the later can be feathered by selling gold to VPNfags and autooptimising images and videos to reduce bandwidth, similar to instagram. However dealing with CP seems to impose a much harder challenge. Throw it all at AI? How the fuck are big corpos or 4chan dealing with this shit?

Fuck knows mate.

Maybe to start off you will have to hold images for moderation if it is a bbs maybe only people who have trusted accounts don't get held for moderation.

As for finance to start you will have fuckall users so probably can use free/cheap hosting then eventually a VPS then eventually a more expensive VPS.

I'd also range ban israel as well.
