This year's Debian Project Leadership election has only ONE candidate and it's a Pajeeta (Sruthi Chandran):>She is inactive on the mailing lists, and her Salsa profile is private so we can't even see what her coding contributions are.>She's run for DPL 4 times before; lost each time>Her entire platform is just about diversity and bitching about cis males>She intends to formally incorporate Debian in the US, which would force Debian to introduce age verificationHer only claim to fame is organizing DebConf23, an event where a Debian developer literally fucking DIED because basic health & safety measures were not followed.A much more qualified candidate was hospitalized during the nomination window and couldn't apply in time, yet she has refused to reopen nominations.Debian is FUCKED unless the Debian developers all vote NOTA (None of the above).
She even got destroyed on DEI:>Hi Sruthi,>I must admit I am a bit clueless about diversity and outreach efforts in other Free Software projects. So I have absolutely no idea about how we are performing compared to others. Clearly we could improve, but are others doing better than we do? Which part of the issue is global to the Free Software world as a whole, and which part is specific to Debian?>Do you have numbers to share? Are there nice initiatives in other Free Software projects that we should copy?https://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2026/03/msg00058.htmlHer answer:>I am active only in Debian, so I do not have any solid idea about how things are working out in other Free Software projects. But based on whatever discussions I had with people from other projects, I would say that, while there may be a handful of projects doing good with respect to Diversity, most of the projects are in similar situation as us. Doing a best practice study of all the Free Software projects would a good initiative, something I might be interested in future, but right now, I do not have answers for that.https://lists.debian.org/debian-vote/2026/04/msg00000.htmlAnyone who has lived in a third world country like India or worked with Indians can see through her. Of course people like Lucas Nussbaum and Thomas Lange, who is a professor in Köln, would not have experience working with Indians and are taking her presentation and answers at face value.
>>108506919Normally it would be, but you have to be the right person or someone WILL vote for her just to spite you and that's all it'll take. They'll immediately start digging into you, to try and find out who you are, what credentials you have, and if you're a nazi or a decent fucking human being. Like if your github contributions grid isn't massively green and you don't have years of social media posts supporting Democrat Party of America talking points, don't bother.
how the votations going? is she really getting NOTA'd?>>108495496>She intends to formally incorporate Debian in the US, which would force Debian to introduce age verificationwouod she even have the power to do so? most devs are opposition to it, and it obviously goes against deb's insterests as a whole.>>108507190i dont get her focus on diversity, deb is a global project, it IS diverse no matter the proportions of x or y people.
>>108507464>dont get her focus on diversity, deb is a global project, it IS diverse no matter the proportions of x or y peoplediverse means no whites
>>108507464Simple, diversity doesn't actually refer to the variety of people in a group. It refers to the percentage of persons in the group that qualify as "diverse". You can have a group that's completely homogeneous and it'll still be 100% diverse. The definition changed the moment that "diversity is about getting rid of white people (and that's a good thing)" article dropped.
Why? cat /usr/src/linux/Documentation/process/code-of-conduct.rstNVIDIA driver 580.142 (last I checked) runs, so why do (You) not install it? So do Windows vidya (through Linuxulator...)

>>108505635FreeBSD, Windows and macOS all have worse code of conduct, but also cuck license. Why would anybody use those? Those are basically Linux 10 years ago what comes to drivers and software availability.
>>108506288>have worse code of conduct,But it's not included in the source tree.
>>108505635I'm not on Nvidia on my new pc, which I mostly wanted to be a beast in ramAmd was cheaper and I don't play competitive levels at top level where the difference between winning and losing can be 200fps vs 201fps so I don't need the highest of the high end, just good enough and amd is good enough
>>108505635How about those AMD Ryzen drivers?
This major is only worth it if you're like the top 10% of candidates while the rest of the 90% of CS graduates will end up working at McDonald's. All your hopes and dreams, all your effort towards this major, all of it flushed down the shitter while stuck with thousands of dollars of debt. It's over, every normie in this field is utterly fucked.
Turns out being able to do bubble sort ain't so valuable.Sucks for those that got debt but it is what it is. For what it's worth, I've gotten 6 years in industry and even as a senior developer it ain't so great, I probably only have a few years left.
>>108491230You americlaps whining more than working is the actual issue.Especially in a fucking field where you could get promoted to the top of the chain within fucking 10 years and you realistically don't even need an internship or a junior position to start working.
>>108491230This would be tragic if it wasn't written by a redditor. But seriously I'll give him credit though, university is just not worth it due to how rapidly the job market evolves, you're potentially wasting years of your life to chase a job that won't be there anymore at the end of it, it's insane. If any youngin is reading this, think long and hard before going to college, if you do go it better not be something that AI can replace
>>108491230>falling for the meme "come with me on a day of work in a random meme it company>realises mid way its all bs>still continues cause the lifestyle is the bait>racks up an insane amount of debt>doesnt even think of doing a trade even as a sidejob fucking idiots this is why none of them even last more than 10 years before going homeless if i didnt become a saturation diver first instead of trying to find a cloud security or cyber security job in general i would have being toast
>>108507015It pains me to imagine the interview process in a few years' time. What the fuck will an experienced AI jockey have to say in a technical interview when all he does is code review and basic architecture (and even that's a big IF)? Back in the day it at least had sense to have a technical exam of some sort. The value of bullshitting skills will go through the roof, the only actual professional developers around will be more slimy than a used car dealer.

all my laptops have been hand-me-downs but I have to buy one for the first time everI runlinux, I need it for browsing the internet, usually 20 or so tabs open, watching videos from streaming sites. I don't care about battery life, I don't care about weight or it being clunky - in fact, the sturdier it is, the better. I'd like to prioritize security but I don't want to go through the whole pain of opening the thing up to flash the bios. I just bought a 5090 and 128gb ddr5 ram so I'd like the laptop to be on the cheaper side.I'm in Australia so my options are limited. T14, T14s gen 1 & 2 are plentiful, there's a bunch of other stuff on ebay but I don't know what to look for exactly.
Anyone had the issue of the mic-mute button being constantly lit on their T480? I think it started happening after one of the recent kernel updates but I am not sure. I can still turn the LED on and off with the appropriate console commands and it still mutes and unmutes the mic but the LED doesn't toggle when I use the button. I use i3 if that is important.
>>108506039Z13, X13 gen2
>>108503912I think optical zoom is only 2xI use it most of the time and it's fineI don't have any great examples but this sunset looked nice
>>108506299T14 gen 2 is probably the easiest of these not to go wrong with. Screens are ok to good, RAM can be expanded and CPUs, especially the AMD ones, should be good for another few years. It isn't super sturdy by pre-2017 standards but it's backpack-worthy if you cover the screen with a thin cloth. L14 gen 2 is a passable alternative, essentially T14 but thicker, but you have to mind the screen which is sometimes an ugly 1366x768 TN.
why an empiric problem can't be solved yet?also is nvidia behind not leting game developers to actually solve the problem?we already know they're forcing the game devs to use rtx and dlss to solve problems that were solved many but many years ago.
