Are you ready to embrace Resolute Racoon? Release set for April 23, Beta out now.>7.0 kernel>GNOME 50>New document reader, Evince replaced by Papers (built in Rust)>New image viewer, Eye of GNOME replaced by Loupe (built in Rust)https://documentation.ubuntu.com/release-notes/26.04/summary-for-lts-users/I know at least one of you will make a certain post, and I'm betting with myself how many replies it'll take before it arrives.
>>108523294>Fedora 44 KDE?Nothing particularly bad, but out of the box there was more to fix and tinker with than using Ubuntu. >>108525465Not bait at all, if you spend some time tweaking Windows11, usually less time than you need for linux you can get rid of the nuisances. Nothings lags, searches are instant, all of my programs run without workarounds. >>108524599When you include commercial support, they plan to support this version for 10 years, which is crazy considering how many relatively untested rust replacements they're shipping with this release. I guess they must have confidence in them, but they're moving a bit fast for me.
>>108525789oh no my home folder ~
>>108526168>it's built better for normiesI'm not using "just werks" like a synonym for normie. It's about not wasting time, and primarily the confidence that something which works today continues working tomorrow, in the face of updates or any other changes. I will test out Fedora Workstation (the GNOME variant) once they officially release 44. Unless it's different to the KDE setup, it required the terminal to fix non-free video codecs, and right there you've lost the normie.
No thanks, I'll be buying a Macbook.
>>108526832>paying the retard tax for a toy computer
Why havent you taken the split keyboard pill yet /g/? Its scientifically proven to help with multiple problems and has no learning curve if you know touch typing
I made my own Silakka54 clone. Somehow splits worked for me from day 1, I was back at my old letter typing speed in about 3 days and layers didn't take that long either. They probably just aren't for everyone.
>>108523999> if you have some unique way of doing things you're a trannyOk.
>>108523131fpbpThey cost ridiculously more than a membrane keyboard and still significantly more than a good mechanical keyboard and no matter which of those you prefer it isn't worth the markup.
>>108523131>Too expensive for what it is.>>108526726>significantly more than a good mechanical keyboardI got a mechanical split, wireless, rechargable, easy to use and live updating programming UI all for $75. the quality is unironically nice too. based chinkshttps://aliexpress.com/item/1005010096398129.html
>>108523125If I get 2 normal keyboards, cut them in two with wiring preserved and plug them both in, I would get the same thing. One controller for each half of the keyboard. And it's probably going to be cheaper, am I right?

>>108525816>run it bare metaldoesnt it have nonexistent powersaving support tho? i tried it exactly two years ago and every piece of hardware was cranked up 100% 24/7. i dont mean it as a bad thing, actual synology is the same way.
how bad is it to use consumer drives rather than nas or enterprise drives for raid 1 or raid 10 ? I've had all kinds of funky situations, sometimes it worked well, sometimes the consumer drives would pop out of raid when mixed with enterprise drives at random times. is it something I should actually be concerned about ? i would like my shit to be stable...
>>108526302The real issue is to avoid SMR. Also, having one shitty drive in a RAID can cause all the other drives to have to wait on it. It's frustrating to stare at your RAID and see one sole drive working as hard as it can while the others blink and seem bored.

Are you device hoarding? I bought a used Samsung S24 on eBay because I wanted a better camera and battery life for my vacation. I just sold my old S21 FE to someone else. Why would you spend $1k for a brand new device that is only marginally better than older models? Plus I'm saving the planet by reusing old devices.

>>108526780dsub, I use sonixd/feishin on desktop, but they're dogshit, bloated and slow compared to dsub.
>>108525913>Are you device hoardingI think there is a distinction between acquiring things just to keep them as opposed to buying a thing and using it for a long time. The first is wasteful consumption whereas the second is thrifty and kind to the environment. That clarified, let me answer the OP's question.I use my computer every day and I have been using it since January of 2014, twelve years ago. It's run two versions of Windows, two BSDs and uncountable Linux Distros. Right now I use Slackware as my daily driver, but other partitions have other distros, including an LFS. Aside from the BSDs, no OS has ever had a problem with the hardware. I never hit swap, so I have more than enough RAM. The only physical upgrade ever needed was the internal drive, bigger each time. ;) I make music, process video, write programs and play games without feeling any slowness.CPU speed is not advancing any more, so there is far less reason to buy a new computer nowadays. Until American companies start making computers again, the tariffs make this a *bad* time to buy a new computer.p.s. Cell phones can't be kept this long. Five years *at most*. Hardware is still good but the software won't run any more. Big racket there on the part of Big Business.

>>108526550Depends on the price gap, as of right now typical performance gap will be 15%to30%-ish + mfg. If the gap is like $200 or less I wouldn't bother with the 4070, don't want to get cucked out of any future featureset + a warranty
>>108526550you might see around 2x more fps, but the 2070s should be good enough for 1440p for 90% of games (and many games can't run above 60fps due to CPU bottlenecks).note that your GPU does support DLSS 4, so it's not like you are gaining any features or anything from the upgrade (but you may have a noticably lower fps ~20% compared to older DLSS versions, because you don't have enough AI cores).overall, just remember that 30fps is visually smoother than 60fps with stutter, you can extend the life of a GPU by messing around with frame limiters and tuning down the graphics settings, and checking if the game is CPU or GPU bottlenecked. So for example, if your GPU is at 100% utilization and your CPU is at 80%, there is a chance that upgrading your GPU will not give your 2x more FPS as I mentioned. You can see the CPU and GPU graphs in steam's perf overlay or windows key+G game bar might be sufficient.

>>108526729Oh, and gsync pulsar is an option. It works with your GPU.I think very recently the 2070s stopped getting game ready drivers. But the 2070s will still get regular driver updates but without game optimizations for another 3 years or so before they stop driver updates (and it will still work, you just wont get new graphics API features / new nvidia control panel changes).
>>108526592They'll still buy them at the same price which is already massively inflated.aube They'll sell less but they'll still make a profit unlike "mid-tier" phones that people buy because thats what's expected.Still the high end phones will flop harder than the iPhone x.
