>>106526593>ancient broken softwareThere's the linux cult in action.
>>106526647>>106526670I'll admit that "ancient broken" is a bit overdramatic, but high DPI displays have been widespread for many years now. If a recent release of a given piece of software doesn't support DPI scaling, that's a serious deficiency. If it supports it on Windows but not on Linux, then it's not crazy to suggest that its claimed support for Linux is lacking at best and broken at worst. Some X11 programs do actually have good support for DPI scaling and those have worked fine under KDE Wayland sessions since 2022: https://pointieststick.com/2022/06/17/this-week-in-kde-non-blurry-xwayland-apps/I don't know whether Vivado is like that.>what am I gaining by switchingHonestly I don't care if you switch or not, I'm not trying to evangelise it. If you need software that doesn't run well on Linux then that's a compelling reason to not use Linux.I've personally found that KDE has improved enough in the past few years that any remaining reasons to use Windows have pretty much disappeared. My current setup involves switching between a Fedora 42 KDE work machine and a Windows personal machine with a KVM. I find Fedora nicer to use and less troublesome than Windows so I'll probably switch over the personal machine soon.

>>106523547I recently got Kubuntu (2 days ago) because Windows started acting up after I tried renaming my main user acc, and desu it really depends on what you're going to do with it. My activities consist of gaming, programming, web browsing and arting, which are all the same apps as on Windows, so my experience basically is exactly the same. If you're going to be doing more Office-y stuff it might change more but generally speaking performance and experience is the same, other than a few small shortcut changes.
>>106523547If it comes with Windows, keep it so you don't lose the warranty, or at least up until it expires... otherwise, Linux.

>>106527892if they can do 1Gbps down why can't DOCSIS 3.1 do the same up?not that I'm well versed in coax shitter cables or protocols
>>106527902Because they're running "low split" DOCSIS 3.1 which only gives 5-42MHz to the upload side, which equates to ~30-40mbps. DOCSIS 3.1 also supports "mid split" deployments which use 5-85MHz for the upload offering around 100-200mbps (depends on the distance from the ISP equipment.) And finally there is "high split" DOCSIS 3.1 which is 5-204MHz which can do 200-350mbps upload. It's only relatively recently DOCSIS ISPs in the US are upgrading to mid and high split deployments on a wide scale.Comcast in my area has upgraded to high split DOCSIS 3.1 and offer 2300mbps download with 330mbps upload.
>>106527948still jewish tier of them to charge $120/mo for 40Mbps up in my eyes when Fiber is right around them in every other area offering higher symmetric speeds at lower pricesthey kept promising a public rollout of 10Gbps infrastructure (prob 1Gbps upload max lmao) for years now but I'm just glad to be rid of them and their shitty monthly rising price that isn't justifiedpretty sure that upgrade was going to just be "high split" as you mentioned so even worse than what I assumed and doesn't matchw hat I saw for the DOCSIS 3.1 standard maximum either yeesh

What is the usecase of routing cables behind floor trims like this? How can a computer nerd like me take advantage of these cutouts? I was just thinking of replacing these trims outright with something solid and sealed so dust, grime, and insects can't accumulate behind them. Besides, where are the cables supposed to break out? Why not just use wall mounted cable boxes for things like extension cords and devices? Less of a fire hazard too, especially if you run MDF trims as opposed to PVC/XPS.

If privacy is a concern, you have to let go of convenience. Don't use apps that take your personal data, use the web browser. Pay with cash, strip your phone of Apple and Google services. Disable camera and microphone access.
You cannot own a smartphone and be privateThere is zero way to get around this.In fact owning a cell phone is the same in general. You cannot avoid this problem other than not carrying cellular devices with you.And even WiFi devices can be pinged.
>>106525584Don't install 50 different apps to do everything you can do in one browser.Quit wasting your money and putting your email and phone number in fast food apps, doordash and uber. You don't need to play gachas. You don't need to post 1k images to social media(s).You don't need to stream music when you can build and have your own library to go through.
Look at that. Konqi. The KDE mascot. The green is playful but not too loud. The scarf is tasteful, vivid, a bold stroke of red.Notice the horns.
