Nice car fellow britbong. I was looking into the Spyder MR2, but then I saved some more and got a manual z4 e89. I've sat in an old MR2 I am jelly of the interior, it's nostalgic.

oh nice, that spyder would have been an import presumably
and yeah I like how the middle portion is raised so your elbow has a nice rest for changing gear, driver focused interiors are something we lost with modern cars

I drive a blacked out GWM Cannon Vanta 2025 model.
It does not have GPS navigation. Which I found surprising for a modern car. But I am a privacy and security sperg so that is more of a a blessing than a curse for me. I only connect via Bluetooth to play music so I'm going to be missing out on some features made available with Android Auto and the GWM app but that's how I am.
The software looks very nice. It has a nice responsive display with a quite impressive 360 view of the car you can use while parking. Cooled and heated seats which is really nice for me when driving to remote areas.
GWM totally busted the clock system in the car however. The Automatic Time-Zone setup only has time zones in the o'clock. So there is no 0930, 1030, 1130 etc. so you have to set it manually. Then after you go through all that trouble, it resets itself once a day, you have to do it all over again tomorrow, Not only that but there is a big clock widget on the home screen that seems to act completely independent of the system time settings. It resets itself to 0100 every time the car starts. This is a known issue. I was told I'd have to wait for a software update. Pretty wild man.

How come that despite of over 30 years of development Linux hasn't managed to solve even the very basics like software bundling and distribution?
>>

Things have blown out of proportion during the last 10 years.
I'd love to use modern Irix, it's like a night day difference to this bloated tranny shit in which same setting can and will be changed in 5 different locations and every software gets installed in random locations depending on the whims of the dev

I can go on.

>try macOS
Weird scaling since Big Sur, Settings menu has bipolar disorder, all the good widgets cost actual physical money
>try Windows
eleven different design languages in one, and they're not even trying to pretend that Windows Shell can work on anything slower than a quantum supercomputer (see NVIDIA documentation on Windows increasingly requiring more GPU resources just to idle), and the animations aren't even good enough to justify it
>try Xfce/LXQt/LXDE/Budgie/Cinnamon/Deepin/etc.
Dogshit Xorg DE is dogshit, anything without Wayland on a Unix-like system is a meme
>try GNOME
Inherently un-ergonomic design, GTK weirdness, it looks really good though - have to give them that
>Le window manager with a Waybar shell!!
They made five for Niri and not a single one allows you to adjust drawing tablet sensitivity without having to edit a .txt config (WMs don't come with text editors preinstalled and you have to manually set file extension associations)

I've tried them all, I've even tried ReactOS, yet I keep coming back to KDE Plasma, it is ergonomic, it is lightweight as fuck, it is so customizable I gave up on it halfway through because I couldn't decide how I wanted my desktop to look, it has proper fractional Wayland scaling support, it is the most mature with HDR thus far through Kwin, you can turn it into a tiling window manager with one script, how did the Germans do this? Is this the best desktop GUI in the history of desktop GUIs?

Nothing wrong with either approach, and I generally prefer gnome+plugins to KDE.

But I just like something that's more straightforward and does what I want/need without giving me every potential option in any given scenario. Now some people want that and that's fine, they can use KDE.

Other checkpoints that are more scuffed or rough quality-wise, "chosenMixXL_v30" I find it good for epic or fantasy. "JRU (The journey remains unfinished) v1.0" "hsUltrahdCG_v50" scuffed but has good prompt adherence "DREAMBOX" another one, but you might already know it since it's from the same creator as NTD.
And a personal merge of mine that I'm still using it are the Coco series or anicorexl_illustriousV6

So just got into linux and decided to install debian after reviewing the other stable newbfriendly distros (ubuntu, mint, fedora, etc). Decided not to mess with the corporate leaning ones and settled on debian, but just found out theyre also hopping on the popular kill-all-straight-white-goys bandwagon. Should i be concerned and prepare to switch to something else, or is it just a nothingburger and debian should still be trusted? If the former, what distro should i consider instead? From what i read it seems like void linux ticks all the boxes(stable, non-corpo, non-political) besides the newbfriendly part.

I feel like you can only get 2-3 out of those atm. Like if you want something stable and good for newbies Fedora is a pretty good choice but it's definitely a corpo distro and by extension political. Gentoo is stable, non-corpo and I've never really seen anything political around it since it's just very autistic people using it but I wouldn't call it newbie friendly by any metric. The list goes on but it's the same all the way though.

the one in your pic is unusable. every action takes ages - you press a button and the phone takes a couple seconds to register the press, typing a message is a pita. i wouldn't buy it even for a senior, unless they literally only answer calls, but even then the multidirectional button in the center makes it very easy to mistakenly press left or up when you want ok.

I had considered Similar, use a kaios device ,may work for a few years...maybe , but we can conclude the next likely move from them,Geo Locking ,if you declare not having a smart phone they issue you a free crappy one that you are expected YOU! to use (south korea they send you msg that they expect replies from ) There is likely to be black market of foreign devices, clean firmware sites becoming more popular ,locking blocking of devices that don't have government software installed ,ppl moving to Lora devices (already happening) , banning of sale of Lora Devices , people making THERE OWN,,,, all of this,,,we know what we all have to do otherwise , this is the fate that awaits, a never ending arms race...
>>

Dumb phones are great: make calls, send texts, and that's it. No constant updating. No fucking around with "apps." Amazing battery life. Nice!
Just don't get an AGM like I stupidly did. Horrid phone with a 50% of decideing it was not going to make calls any more until you turned it off and on again.
I'm currently using a semi-dumb phone, a TLS 4. It has apps, *sigh* and the battery charge doesn't last nearly as long as a true dumbphone, but it is a cleaner simpler interface, it's not Android nor IOS and it's cool to close it to end a call. :)

My bad, speedread your post a bit too much.

In the case of Vulkan, KTX2 is very straightforward with BC7 (which I'm using), just load the miplevels into a buffer and dump them into a VkImage so I didn't have to worry about compression. Because of that the only compression on my mind was whatever supercompression scheme used. It's entirely unnecessary for my game though since I'm not aiming to have a meaningful number of textures above 1k.

Vulkan Dynamic mode is basically OpenGL 5. You can just make a single pipeline pass and push everything through and let the driver sort 90% of it out.
