What's your choice of search engine these days for those who care a bit more about privacy? I'm trying to get away from Google as much as I can and came across Startpage but don't know much on the technicalities on whether it's actually screwing me or not. I know duckduckgo is a popular alternative but I consistently hear about how the search results are kind of just ass nowadays (as a consequence of piggybacking off of Bing). What do you use as a good balance between functional searching and privacy?

That gui... future that corporate-memphis/flatshit took from us.
>>
>>106452056
Having all this variety within a single patch is neat and cool, but I think it's always better to split it into different hocketed parts, even if they're very similar to each other.
Like the low notes in one track, the fast arpeggios in another, etc.
This way you can give each the exact settings and effects they need, rather than having the same for the whole thing.

I am going through deleting my accounts and transferring them away from my Gmail, but what email provider can I use instead for accounts that I don't want to delete but is associated with my Gmail account (since I plan on deleting it I need to replace it with a new email address).

I know about cock.li and I like some of the domains, but can I use my own domain?
I'm thinking of making a disroot account too unless there's something I'm missing it seems good not that I looked particularly deep in to it.
Last option I am considering is self hosting I believe Luke Smith made a video showing how to do that with the correct way to make it not get sent to spam.

Sorry for making this thread I know it's been done like 9000 times already

If you are in Fourteen Eyes go with Proton and just use aliased emails (masked emails). Otherwise go with fastmail and use masked emails (aliased emails).

Masked/aliased emails are fake emails so you dont have to give your actual email

>>
>>106455529
I like runbox. Ultimately you have to accept Email isn't a secure form of communication. The act of emails going through fiveeyes countries means they're probably snooping and recording them, and while they're encrypted up until the carrier, at some point they have to be decrypted to be put into your mailbox and that's usually where they put the attestation.
>>
>>106455676
Also this, Proton is the GOAT when it comes to privacy. Runbox is fine for privacy but ultimately its private through obscurity, most people don't know about Runbox and you can bring your own domain (expect every single registration site to throw a fit about that if you do, though)

What is /g/ opinion on a mixed monitor set up? Or should I just get two flats and two curves?
21 replies and 6 images omitted. Click here to view.

The best setup is two horizontal and one vertical. The second best setup is 4 horizontal in a grid and one vertical on the side.
Curved is gay use your mounting arms to angle flat monitors.
>>
off-topic but for posterity
I like to use dualmonitortool's cursor teleport feature. It quickly teleports the cursor between monitors so I don't have to drag it across 4000 pixels.
It also lets me set up a soft border between the two monitors so you don't accidentally move the cursor from to the other.

So it's not possible someone from the core OS design team lurks this board?
I just want to say Liquid Glass did sell me. It's pretty much what I've been asking for and I'm glad a big tech company is doing something different for a change.
>>
>>106455797
wouldn't know, as >>106455821 points
if there were actual apple shills here (doubtful but let's assume the schizo idea isn't so schizo), then most likely it'd be done by whatever sub-sub-contractors the marketing org hired for online ads, and it might be that literally no one in Apple itself is aware
I mean Apple doesn't exactly have a use for the approval of /g/ of all places...

>>106455894
>So it's not possible someone from the core OS design team lurks this board?
it is possible, but core os people here most likely would be OS/kernel engineers, not the design org
but yes, it is technically not impossible for a design person saw your post
but visionOS is quite old by now, and it's what actually inspired the whole thing so that seems more likely to me
>I'm glad a big tech company is doing something different for a change
yeah I like it too, and I'm actually surprised that it works so well, given how resource-intensive I would have thought it'd be (inb4 "muh shaders" people: ok yes but I'm not a gfx engineer so I wouldn't have fucking known)

I'm currently using a Hackintosh for the first time and I really have to admit that macOS is a pretty motherfucking fine OS.

>>106455920

Even then, we've been using shaders since compositing was a thing. I can't imagine whatever new effects Liquid Glass adds being worse than React Native webslop.

Because there is no such thing. The law of conservation of energy prevents such a machine from existing.

Device support hinges on software support, which is lackluster due to muh license.
An ancient Intel 2500K can still be used to watch 1080p AV1 slop on Youtube while predating the existence of H265.
>>
I tried encoding some low quality H264 with NVENC AV1 and it killed small details even with that content. SVT-AV1 took too long. x265 medium seems to still be the sweet spot imo.
